FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 29, 2018

FROM THE PASTOR

My Dear Parishioners,

Praised be Jesus Christ! As I write this column, I am preparing to leave the parish for my annual Priests Workshop in Cape May, NJ. This year’s topic is “Marriage: Concretely Applied”. Looking over the schedule, I can see that there will be talks about the social and cultural challenges facing engaged and married couples today. And no doubt, there are

many such challenges: pornography being a big one, not to menon co-habitaon, divorce, adultery or what Pope Francis would say “living in a throw-away-culture.” Yes, there are many challenges. But what catches my eye and excites me most about this topic are the words “Concretely Applied”. For as much as we can talk about marriage, let’s face it, marriage is not about talk, it’s about the walk. Walking with one another in such a unique way as to know the gi of family, faithfulness and forever love. The same can be true of Chrisan Faith itself. There is much we can talk about regarding our faith. But Chrisan faith is absolutely nothing, it’s no more than a topic or project, if it is not something that can be concretely applied to human life.

In these Easter Days, our Risen Lord leads his young and fragile Church in that applicaon. His Resurrecon is more than NEWS, it’s reality and we see Jesus applying that reality, sharing that life with them. And He does the same with us through the Sacraments…God with us, here and now. Faith: Concretely Applied.

This past week, I celebrated the 60th Wedding Anniversary of our parishioners Mr. and Mrs. Huber: Marriage: Concretely Applied. I’ve witnessed the Confirmaon and First Communion of our young people: Jesus: Concretely Applied. And I connue to see the life of Jesus in the ordinary events of human life: Jesus: Concretely Applied. I invite you to do the same, see the Life of God everywhere and embrace it.

The great scholar, writer and poet GK Chesterton had this famous quote which I think is so very true of our world today.

The Chrisan Ideal has not been tried and found wanng, it’s been found difficult and le untried.

May the same not be said about us. Now’s the me to try it. And when it comes to the difficulty, remember this. Chesterton was asked once “What’s wrong with the world?” And to that queson, he did not give a dissertaon. He simply responded: “I am”. And we can say the same. And in adming that, we can hear ourselves say His Name: I AM and in that we find THE WAY.

Peace,

Fr. Rogers

FAITH FORMATION FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

On Sunday, May 6, following the 9:00 Mass the Knights of Columbus will hold their first breakfast of the year at the Hilton Garden Inn, starng at 10:30. Pay at the door, $20 for adults, $10 for children-

under 5 is free.

This is going to be a very special gathering. Our speaker is rered Marine Aviator, Colonel Hank Detering, a combat veteran of Vietnam, entrepreneur, rered principal of Oc-tarro High and a leader of Grand Canyon Warriors. This is an extraordinary story.

Colonel Detering recognized he could help veterans suffer-ing from the nightmares of the combat experience in Vi-etnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. These men could not leave the experience behind; the memories of fallen brothers, crippling wounds and lost causes. His soluon was to gath-er these veterans and join in a challenging effort. The chal-lenge-Ride the dangerous Colorado River Rapids and regain the esprit and self worth they once had.

The story is as remarkable as is the man who leads these veterans. If you have served or have family members cur-rently serving, you’ll want to hear this remarkable story told by a truly remarkable man.

The speaker will start aer the breakfast service. If you can’t make breakfast, make the address. No one should miss this incredible story.

Please contact Clint Norris at 610-444-9058 to let him know your name and how many will aend the breakfast, so we can have a head count for the Hilton Garden Inn.

Congratulaons to our parish children who received their First Holy Com-munion on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Mass was celebrated by Father Rog-ers at 10AM. Our thanks go to Mrs. McCarthy and the choir for their beauful singing and music. We also

extend our appreciaon to those who helped prepare the children: their parents and their catechists: Mrs. Beh-rends, Mrs. Korn. We gratefully acknowledge all those min-isters who generously served as Eucharisc Ministers and Altar Servers. The efforts of all contributed to two wonder-ful sacramental celebraons. May God bless these children and keep them in His care.
