Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, People of Our Lady, Mother of the Church! A grain of wheat. Jesus is very specific in today’s Gospel parable. Proba-bly it could be any grain to explain what happens with our life in com-parison to natural world processes. When we look at this parable within the wide context of Jesus’ mission, then we see the connection between grain of wheat and Bread of Life. There is no Eucharist unless the grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies. It applies to both sides: to Jesus and to us. We really share in the Eucharist when we are not afraid to die

because of love to others. We become Eucharist to others when we die of true love. The Bread of Life comes from what seemed to be lost. Easter morning would never had happened with-out Jesus’ Passion on the Cross. Our new life will never happen without dying for the sake of love. We are getting closer and closer to the Paschal Mystery. Next week we will celebrate Palm Sunday which inaugurates Holy Week. Then a week later will be that day which is the founda-tion of our faith, when early in the morning women came to the grave and were astonished to find an empty tomb. Are we ready to raise to new life with our Lord? We started our Lenten journey with the sign of ashes and with the blessed time of a Lenten mission. This Tuesday we will have our Parish Lenten Reconciliation Service. This liturgical service with readings, pray-er, and reflection concludes with individual confessions. Let us receive that Easter gift from Jesus. Yes, forgiveness is the gift of the Risen Lord. Come on Tuesday and rejoice in the Lord’s peace and reconciliation. While we are going to die with Jesus, students from our Religious Education Program, the Confirmation class, are going to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit on Friday, in the liturgical celebration merged with our neighboring parish, St. Eugene. Bishop Francis Kane will preside over the Mass with the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Eugene Church. Please, keep in your prayers our young generation, that they open their hearts to works of the Holy Spirit.

May God bless you,

Father Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement

We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

Minister of Care Training

There are many within our Faith communi-ty who are unable to attend the communal Celebration of the Eucharist. Like that of the Good Samaritan, Ministers of Care visit our homebound Parishioners proving a compassionate presence and listening ear and share the Sacrament of the Eucharist. In addition, they continue to provide the homebound with the connection to the Par-ish by sharing a Bulletin and discussing upcoming events. If the Holy Spirit is calling you to this Min-istry, formal training will be provided. This consists of five Thursday evening sessions, two hours each, at Presence St. Benedict Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and will begin Thursday, April 12-May 10, 2018 from 7-9pm. Contact Terri Kaisling, Faith Community Nurse, for more information at 773-625-3369, Ext. 28.

Lenten Bible Study We will continue our study of Luke, look-ing at the teaching ministry in Jerusalem and the passion narrative; Luke 19:28 through 23:56. Come to Hayes Center at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21.
