New Assignments for Priests Effective July 1, 2020

Archbishop Aymond has made the follow-ing clergy appointment for St. Peter Parish effective July 1, 2020:

Fr. Patrick Carr will be leaving St. Peter Parish to become Pastor at St. Rita Parish in New Orleans. We thank God for Fr. Patrick’s assignment to St. Peter Parish and his faithful service to us. We ask for God’s blessing in abundance on his new role as pastor. Thank you Fr. Patrick!

Fr. Daniel Okafor has been assigned to St. Peter Parish as Parochial Vicar. Fr. Daniel comes to us from Blessed Trini-ty Parish in New Orleans where he cur-rently serves as Parochial Vicar. Fr. Dan-iel is a native of Nigeria. He is the last of eight children in his family. After finishing his studies at Saints Peter and Paul Seminary in Nigeria, he contin-ued his education and earned a master’s degree in Health Sciences in Durbin, South Africa, where he worked as a leader for a Catholic parish’s youth ministry, choir and altar servers. God’s path would then lead him to the United States where he resumed his stud-ies at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orle-ans. Fr. Daniel was ordained to the priest-hood in 2017. Welcome, Fr. Daniel!

Current Parish Events

March 18, 2020 Dear Parishioners, As we continue to navigate through a very difficult time when uncertainty is greater than certainty, I come before you to assure you of my and Fr. Patrick’s continued and increasing concern and care for you. The protection of your physical health as well as your spiritual and emotional well-being is top pri-ority during this crisis. I am in communication with the archdiocese and also listening to others so that I can make the most prudent decisions needed for you, our parishioners. I want to assure you that I will work tirelessly for as long as it takes until we get to the other side. I know without a doubt that God in His providential care guided us in designating 2020 the Year of the Eucharist at St. Peter Parish. We prepared spiritually and continue to rely on the graces received. As we continue, adjustments must be made for this designated year but as we know God is beyond all human and parish plans. His divine plan will prevail for us. This crisis is affecting the lives of everyone in our parish and community. The level of sacrifice and suf-fering varies but there is one thing constant for all of us. It is our God's love and His victory over death and suffering which we celebrate so profoundly during this holy season of Lent. What unites us during this time is greater than what separates us. It is our belief in God's love and care that breaks down all walls of isolation, breaks down all walls of despair and breaks down all walls of fear. St. Peter Parishioners, by God's grace, we will not only prevail but we will grow stronger as a faith com-munity. Why? Because God is here in our midst, hearing our pain and our pleads for His divine assis-tance. God's love for us is unending and everlasting. We hold tight to that promise. To serve you, our clergy is working long hours combined with increased prayer and sacrifice. Our parish staff has increased their hours of outreach as needed for our families and at the same time, we are all taking prudent precautionary steps of safety. Please be assured that safety measures are taking place in every way possible at St. Peter Parish with increased cleaning and sanitizing. To keep my communication current to you, our parish website and all our social media means will be updated frequently.

March 20, 2020 Dear Parishioners, We are in a crisis that is creating extraordinary challenges and also leaving us with many unknowns. Despite these challenges, St. Peter Parish continues in every way possible to reach out to you in service and care. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, St. Peter Parish is now facing a potential financial burden. With this weekend being the first with no Masses, it is a concern that our weekly collections, which are our main source of revenue, will take a significant financial hit. Therefore, I have put the following into effect immediately. All spending in our parish will be limited to essentials. If necessary, our savings will be used to pay our monthly expenditures including the salaries of our parish staff. All parish finances will be closely monitored and updates given to you as necessary. Now, I must come humbly before you, during this time of urgency, to ask each of you to help our parish in any way possible so that we are able to meet our future financial obligations. I need your help! St. Peter Parish needs your help! Online giving provides our parish a stable financial foundation each week. • If you are a current online giver, thank you. • If you are not an automatic online giver, would you please consider it?

It is easy to enroll. For more information and to access the link on our website, please visit www.stpeterparish.com/online-giving. This link to donate is also on our St. Peter Parish App. If you need assistance, please contact our media coordinator at 985-892-2568.

If you would like to continue using weekly envelopes or prefer to write weekly or monthly checks: • Please drop it in the mail slot to the right of the rectory front door. • Mail it to: St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433. I am very aware of the possibility that some of our families may not be able to increase donations at this time because of their own financial situation during this crisis. I am asking you, who are financially able, to consider increasing your weekly or monthly giving to help balance out the shortage we will ex-perience.

If the Lord has blessed you financially, please consider making an additional one-time larger donation to help our parish weather this financial burden. The direct link is: https://connectnowgiving.parishsoft.com/stpeterparishcovington. This link can be found on our home page of the parish website and on our St. Peter Parish App. Whatever way you are able to help, please know your sacrifice is greatly appreciated. As a parish family, we will weather this difficult time together holding true to our Catholic values and to our parish mission to be God's hands and heart for all. St. Peter Parishioners, we walk together in faith, not in sight, truly relying on the love and mercy of God. Together, by the grace of our God, we will become a stronger parish family united in prayer and sac-rifice. This crisis will be forever part of our history as generations forward will tell the story, of this moment in time, when we, the St. Peter Catholic Church parishioners, sacrificed dearly for the greater good of our par-ish family. It is a privilege to be your pastor. I am forever changed because of the witness of your strong faith and gen-erosity. Thank you St. Peter Parishioners! Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. St. Peter, pray for us. God Bless, Fr. Otis Fr. Otis Young, Jr., Pastor
