CHURCH CLEANING Crew #10 will clean the Church on Saturday, February 13 at 7:30am. Thank you to the following who cleaned church on Jan. 29: Mayra Aguirre, Miriam Cardona, Je-nifer Garcia, Rocio Adame & Patricia Chavez.

If I only knew then what I know now, how different life would be. This sentiment, expressed in myriad ways, is found on every human being’s lips at one point or another. Life may have brought us to a vulnerable place here we see some of the poor choices we made and the effects they are having. Perhaps we fell into some destructive and dysfunctional relationships or behaviors and are finding how they held us captive. Our zeal and passion for life may have drifted away and we are waking up to the reasons apathy has taken hold. Life can be hard. In fact, some would describe their lives as a drudgery. They walk through each day with an anxious unsettledness, wondering when their restless-ness will cease. There is a temptation to believe that what I see is all I will get. Mortality and hopelessness await the dawn. If I could only have known what would come in the future, I could have made better choices and avoided all of this misery! Really? While we can certainly give into weakness, sin, impulsiveness, and idiosyncrasies that cause us to stumble over ourselves, life is really a journey. If we don’t make the mistake of wallowing in the mire of self-pity and realize the new life God is calling us to, then there are thrills, adventures, surprises, and soul-searching graces we can surely miss. We are not tethered to our past nor are we bound to the ills life can bring upon us. We are never hopeless or helpless. The problem is that our myopic vision only allows us to see the misery and misfortune that is before us, not the potential that can come from choosing healthier and more life-giving options. Jesus came that we might have fullness of life. We need to learn how to reach for Jesus’ hand and let him help us to our feet. We need to allow God into our pain and heal our past. We have to wrestle with our histories, agonize and search and cry out for the Divine healing we need to restore our faith, hope, and love. Job could not see how his story would end or trust the guidance of the God who called him. We live in that same blindness and suffer from the same lack of confidence. Once we allow ourselves to be touched by God’s healing power, we begin to see that all of the pieces of our lives are necessary parts of a greater whole. Along the way of our lives, God uses our omissions and failures to create new things and possibilities. When doors close, others open and we can be amazed by the joyful and unexpected surprises we receive. Once we know the power of God’s creative, healing, life-giving, forgiving, and dynamic presence, it is no wonder we want to put ourselves at the service of others and show them what life can be.

60 YEARS OF PERPETUAL ADORATION

Check out the new addition to our Home Page at https://stboncc.com. We have added a “digital” clock timer that is continually counting forward since our Adora-tion inception date, February 14, 1961 as we are quickly ap-proaching 60 years of Perpetual Adoration!

“It’s a wonderful thing to contemplate as you see all those sec-onds, minutes, hours, days and years ticking by and realize how many thousands and thousands of people have been gifted with that personal and special time with Jesus. Imagine the conversa-tions and lives that have been changed!”

WORLD DAY FOR CONSECRATED LIFE

Sunday, February 7 is World Day For Consecrated Life. We pray for those who are consecrated to God by the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. May they always reveal the love of Christ to those they encounter and continue to enrich our world by their dedicated lives of prayer. Lord hear our prayer.

What is Consecrated Life? Consecrated life is a gift given by Christ who chooses a person individually to respond to His great love in a special relationship. He asks that person to leave some aspects of the world (such as marriage and following secular goals) to put themselves at the service of their brothers and sisters. Furthermore, consecrated life is a vocation just as marriage and diocesan priesthood are. Both men and women can choose to con-secrate their lives to Christ as a way to seek an intimate relation-ship with Him. These men and women live the truth that only Christ can satisfy the deepest longings in a person’s heart and witness that this union provides a deeper joy than the secular world can give. In effect they are previewing the way we will relate to Christ in heaven. If you feel called to learn more about religious life, please con-tact the Office of Vocations on the front of this bulletin.

Please choose a Seminarian Bookmark in the entry to Church, and pray for our Seminarians.

We are excited to see everyone in a few weeks.

UPDATE 2021…

This semester has been full of trials, but the Lord has blessed me with even greater blessings as well. The only reason I can think of for why this would happen is because I have placed more and more trust on Him. God always kept my life interesting. If I was having a bad day, he would bless me by ending it with something new and exciting like the snowball fight that we had after the first snow. The weight of the work that I had to do only felt heavy when I tried to do it myself. It was at these points that someone would come up to me and remind me that I need to trust in the Lord and His plan for me. My days were always more fulfilling when I trusted Him. Each semester seems to be better than the one before, so I can’t wait to see what this semester has in store for me. Please keep praying for me and all of my brothers as we discern God’s call for our lives, and we will be praying for all of you as well.

Thanks, Isaac Ostdiek
