Academics at H are the key to educational fulfillment, just as a song's meaning is derived from its various verses. In order to present a comprehensive program, schools must diversify. Thus, in the languag arts department this year, n wly adopted books challenged students to better comprehension in the field of communication. The staging of a mock Presidential election provided student involvement in current issues. With school not ending in May as former traditions dictated, education was extended to summer cour es in driver's education and typing.

Sports tempo echoed throughout the halls of SHS, varying from the crack of a bat to the pulsating rhythm of a basketball being dribbled down the gym floor. The 1969 year marked the close of Summitville's participation in athletics as a single school; however, its teams fought with the traditional spirit of HS. During the hot summer afternoons, the baseball team would gather for a tiring, but rewarding practice. Also in track and cross country, the detem1ination to compete was evident as the sportsmen would assemble despite the inclement weather. In 'ovember as basketball sea on arrived, the mu cular and mental exertion of all participants was strongly evident and grew stronger as the eason progressed. All of these qualities joined to strengthen the final beat of sports at SHS.
