As a university student I worked more on the field of Fluid Mechanics. My dissertation was under the title “Numerical Solution on Incompressible, Laminar Boundary layer equations”. In order to complete the dissertation I created (as a member of a team) a code which was published at an internal publication of my University by the title “Code BLASIUS.FOR for the computation of Incompressible Laminar boundary layer”.
I have been teaching more than 17 years in secondary and higher education. My expertise is in teaching Design Technology. I have been teaching Technology and Communication Technology most of my teaching years. I have also taught IT which is not my specialty but I have learned to construct computer programs when I was a student at University. I have attended many seminars on ways of teaching Technology. During my Master in Education I undertook a module about teaching sciences which is almost the same as teaching Technology.
Another topic that I am interested in and it is relevant to my field of expertise is protecting the environment and sustainability. In more detail, I teach about the energy efficiency problem, meaning the lack of energy sources and the consequences in the environment because of the use of petroleum products and carbon. I have been running an environmental club for many years in order to make pupils see and understand the situation we have put ourselves in. I also teach about the environmental problems (such as global warming) in my Technology classes and the ways to solve them. For one year I have trained teachers in ways of implementing Renewable Energy Sources in school labs. Finally, I have attended a relevant module in my Master in Education. I have also attended a lot of seminars about the environment and the ways to teach about it in secondary education. I was at the team that represented our school in order to receive the Eco-Schools’ green flag. Finally, a team of 5 students and I gained the first place at the ‘Green Contest’, organized by WWF, constructing a solar oven.
During that MEd course I also undertook a module about educational leadership and management. Also, my dissertation was in that field. I have also attended some seminars like the International Day of "Leadership for Learning", 2005 University of Cambridge and University of Patras, or the CARN conference 2009.
For three years I attended the MA in Leadership at the Institute of Education, University of London. Modules completed:
1. Leadership for the Learning Community
2. Values Vision and Moral Purpose
3. Leading and Managing Educational Change and Improvement
4. Doing and Using Leadership and Management Research Methods.
My dissertation was on Teachers’ Development and Leadership. The title was “Teachers’ Work-life Balance – Implications for School Leadership. A case study of a Greek school” (Grade A)
For many years I was a member of the EFQM team of teachers at HAEF. We evaluated the school and propose actions to be undertaken. My team was the environmental one, in Lyceum. We presented our action research upon the increase of environmental awareness of pupils in our school, at the CARN conference 2010 in Cambridge during that November. I tried to share all the results on ways of increasing environmental awareness of pupils through their lessons despite teachers' expertise with other teachers. I also use all the knowledge I gained during seminars in Environmental Centers and try to introduce them in my classes through my lesson and clubs, and the whole school through the EFQM project. One of these actions was the creation of an environmental code of conduct addressed to everyone in the school.
I was awarded with the Certificate of Attendance of the EFQM Leader for Excellence-Level 1 course I attended in May 2010. I was also awarded by the Greek Minister of Education as an Innovative Teacher, in June 2011. Furthermore, I was awarded with the Certificate of “Making Thinking Visible: Building Understanding through Critical and Creative Thinking” at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (2012).
I undertook an official training course on Solid Works2013 in summer 2012. I try to keep up to date by attending webinars when offered. During December 2012 and February 2013 I undertook the “Training Trainers” course in order to be able to help other teachers (especially NQTs) on their development sharing my knowledge and experience.
At the 15th and 22th of June 2013 I presented as a trainer a 2-days workshop for primary and secondary teachers by the title “Project Based Learning” in terms of HAEF program “Teachers Training Teachers”. Since then, every summer I deliver this workshop to teachers from my school and not only.
In November 2013 I obtained the IB DT Diploma online workshop certification on Design Technology (category1) online workshop Certification – IB Diploma
In 2014 I attended a seminar on “CAD-CAM & Milling Machine Roland MDX 40A - Level 1” and “Using
the 3D Printer Introduction”, at the Informatics Center of HAEF.
In 2014, I attended the on line course “Climate Change” by University of Exeter (Future Learn online courses)
In January 2016 I obtained the IB Design MYP online workshop certification on Design (category1) online workshop Certification – IB MYP
Teaching and Learning
Continuously I try to introduce something new to my classes. In order to do that both efficiently and effectively I have to evaluate my work. All my studies on Leadership made me believe in evaluation of all our actions and its advantages. In the Greek educational system there is no formal way of evaluation of teachers and schools. So, I ask colleagues to observe me while teaching and I ask the children, at the end of the year, for their opinion and feedback about the course. I also self-evaluate my work and decide what should be changed or improved. For example I have changed the schedule for the pupils' projects because it turned out to be very hard for them. I also bought new kits and software (the school) in order to update the projects pupils do and make it easier for me to introduce my ways of teaching sciences. In 2011 I introduced the Design Processes (Product Design) in my lessons in MY in the way it is presented by the Word Association of Technology Teachers (W.A.T.T.). Furthermore, I introduced CAD design in the Engineering Design club I run. We use SolidWorks, 3D printer, lased cutter and a milling machine. At the Projects I run for the High school students I use the IB SL curriculum on DT. The projects I run at the middle school are “Bioclimatic Architecture”, “Mars Lander (egg lander)” using several materials, and “The Bridge Project” using West Point Bridge Designers and Balsa for construction. For the academic year 2015-16, in terms of introducing the MYP at the school, I will run projects such as “Creating a chess” and “My future bedroom”. I also supervised our team for the f1 in schools competition in terms of the design.
I am as student centered as possible in my classes. I negotiate classroom rules with my students and create a contract with them in a process of constant self and pier assessment. I believe in the value of discipline and quality, effectiveness and efficiency in teaching. The use of IT is very important in the way I teach, so I use smart board, CMS (Share Point VLE), internet, several software packages, Data Loggers, formative assessment tools etc.

University Dissertation: “Numerical Solution on Incompressible, Laminar Boundary layer
equations” (1995).
Abstract:
The objective of the thesis is the numerical solution of the ordinary differential equations that
describe the incompressible laminar boundary layer with zero pressure gradients (Blasius
Equation) and with non-zero pressure gradients (Falkner-Scan equation). The numerical
solution of these equations is performed utilizing the 4th-order Runge-Kutta method which is
incorporated in the Fortran 77 Blasius.for and Falska.for codes, respectively. The calculated
results are directly compared in the case of zero pressure gradient and for all other cases with
corresponding that they are derived with the application of approximated solutions or/and
corresponding that they are referred to integral methods.
Internal University publication: “Code BLASIUS.FOR for the computation of Incompressible
Laminar boundary layer” (1995).
MEd Dissertation: “Biographical research of Educators’ lives and how it affects their
development” (2006).
Abstract:
The present thesis’s objective is the biographical research of the teachers’ lives through
existing models, mainly by Huberman. In terms of verifying this model according to the Greek
data, especially according to the sample of this research, has been made an effort to create a
career model capable to anticipate the perspective of teachers’ development. The
conclusions mark out the significance of such a research and give clear indications that an
anticipation of the teachers’ development can be made, nevertheless much more elements
and multifarious analysis are needed in terms of extend and widespread research.
MA in Educational Leadership Dissertation: “Teachers’ Work-life Balance – Implications for
School Leadership. A case study of a Greek school” (2011).
Abstract:
This case study focuses on teachers at a private high school in Greece and their need to create
a healthy balance between their professional and personal lives. The key concepts
investigated are workload and stress, which lead to work-life imbalance, and the implications
for leadership, according to teachers’ professional phases. The theme is well documented and
very timely since societal demands on education increase. In Greece there is little research in
this field, thus increasing the significance of the study.
The research uses both quantitative and qualitative methods and data were collected through
a questionnaire to all the teachers and in depth interviews with five of them, who were at
different stages in their career. The main findings of the research demonstrate that there is
work-life imbalance at the school and this has implications for leadership. There are many
aspects to be improved in order to reduce teachers’ workload and stress and thus to increase
their effectiveness, resilience and commitment. To achieve them a climate of trust, overall
accountability and mutual respect must be promoted. The dissertation concludes with a
number of recommendations which the school may wish to consider.
