Film 4 was created in 1998 it was a production company owned by channel four television corporation. The companies first production was called Walter and was directed by Stephen Frears and was released in 1998. In 2004 Tessa Ross became head of film 4 as Channel 4 cut film 4s budget from £30 to £10 million and 50 staff in 2002, due to mounting losses. Film 4 are now able to invest an average £500,000 into each film they fund this amounts to around 20 films a year.

Film 4 have helped to make many coming of age films two examples of these that were successful are Attack the block based around a stereotypical group of teenagers that because of there gang ethic get them selves into a bad situation involving aliens. The film on paper may not seem to work but the film was very well produced and worked very well. The second film is called submarine that based around a teenager and all the problems that he had to face. They also say that the message of the films are one of the most important things to get across in their films. All this makes film 4 perfect for producing our film.
