INTENSIVE FILM PRODUCTION DIPLOMA • 18 MONTHS

FILM PRODUCTION WORK PLACEMENT • 6 OR 12 MONTHS

Experience every phase of pre-production, production and post-production while learning from industry-active filmmakers. The program covers various aspects of filmmaking including: writing and analyzing screenplays, developing storyboards, creating shot lists and preparing budgets and schedules. Learn to shoot, direct, block, light scenes and capture audio, as well as assemble, cut and manipulate footage.

In small classes taught by industry professionals, you have the opportunity to maximize your potential.

Through immersive coursework and experiential learning, you develop the technical, creative and business expertise for launching your career in film.

SMALL CLASS SIZES ACCELERATED LEARNING

Write a professional critique (300-500 words) about any feature length film, describing the film’s strengths and weaknesses and assessing its overall entertainment value. You should also comment on various elements of filmmaking such as direction, acting, lighting, editing and effects.

Dream up any film idea and develop a storyboard. You may also include dialogue and direction. Do not worry about your drawing skills; you can use storyboard software or stick figures. We are looking to see your ability for putting single visual frames into a sequence that tells a story.

Placement Requirements

• Apply in term 3 of your Diploma

• Maintain a B average in the Diploma

• Submit resume to the work placement coordinator

• Film Production graduates choose a work placement period of 6 or 12 months

• Most work placements are offered in 3-month increments

• Students have the chance to work with multiple companies during the placement period

• Most Work Placements are 20-hours a week allowing students time to hold part-time jobs

• Canadian citizens and permanent residents can apply for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)

Screen-based industries have grown to become one of Toronto’s key economic drivers, contributing to an investment of more than $2 billion to the city’s economy annually and supporting an estimated 30,000 jobs. Streaming giant Netflix is establishing a production hub in Toronto, which will support up to 1,850 jobs. First Studio City is also expected to open a 400,000-square-foot world-class film studio complex in north Toronto at the end of 2020.
