Film Response to Results

I had two options for my short film which were ‘The Deeds’ and ‘Don’t Go Upstairs’. I originally planned to use the title ‘The Deeds’ because I believed that I didn’t give away too much of the storyline and the deeds for the house are the main reason the story happened, however, from my feedback I learned that the audience would prefer the film to be called ‘Don’t Go Upstairs’ as it created enigma and gets the audience wondering why the characters aren't allowed to go upstairs.

The Title

I was aware with my film that the ending was a bit random and didn’t really create any sort of effect towards the story line. From my feedback I saw that some people would have liked to see flashbacks of the uncle being psychopathic, showing clips of him decapitating a dead body. I have decided I am going to include these short clips at the end of my film between shots of the surgery table and the jars of organs and severed limbs.

Also, some people suggested that one of the brothers should become possessed by the spirit that is shown around the house. I figured that that would be a great way to twist the story and create tension for the audience. So to create this part of the story line, I have decided to film the older brother stood at the top of the stairs and another one of the spirit woman at the top of the stairs so when it comes to editing the film I will make it look as though the brother is glitching into the spirit woman to give the effect the brother is becoming possessed by the woman.

The Storyline

I have decided to keep the narrative as a non-linear structure, however, instead of just showing the movie with a voiceover, I will film an interview of the two brothers telling the story to the camera. I figured this would work better as the film doesn’t seem to flow like a movie should. I think this would work better for the storyline as the brothers are telling the story anyway, so having them being interviewed would allow them to show their reactions to what happened to them at the house.
