   Filtration can be compared to a sieve ormicro-strainer that traps suspended material

between the grains of filter media.  Filtration may be defined as the separation of

 solid from liquid by passing the suspensionthrough a permeable medium which retainsthe solids and allows the liquid to pass istermed as filtration.
