Fimo Flower BroochThis flower brooch will make a lovely gift forMother’s Day, and is very simple to make. Weused Fimo to make the flower brooch, but youcan use the same technique to make flowers outof plasticine, clay, fondant icing, etc.
MaterialsOven-bake clay, eg Fimo, Sculpey, in 3 coloursincluding greenSharp knifeRolling pin (optional)Baking trayOvenBrooch pinsStrong multi-purpose glue
Method1. Choose a clay colour for the flowers, and cut
off a marble-sized piece and roll the clay inyour hand to warm it up and make it pliable.
2. Using a rolling pin, roll the ball into a long, narrow oval, about 1cm wide and 3cm long.Alternatively you can just flatten the ballinto the required shape.
3. Now fold over one end, and roll the oval up.4. Pinch the bottom of the rolled tube
together, then splay out the top of the tubeto create the flower shape.
5. Repeat the process to create at least threeflowers.
6. Take a small amount of green clay and roll itbetween your hands to create a long thinsausage. Cut this to create stems for each ofyour flower heads.
7. Attach a stem to each flower, by poking asmall hole into the bottom of the flowerhead and inserting the stem. Pinch the clayaround the stem to secure it in place.
8. Using a third colour, roll out a rectangle, about 5cm long by 2cm wide. This createsthe paper wrapper for your bouquet.
9. Place the completed flowers on the ‘paper’and fold the sides in.
10. Place on an oven tray and bake according tomanufacturer’s instructions – typically halfan hour at 130ºC.
11. When baked, allow bouquet to cool, thenglue the brooch pin on to the back of thebouquet and allow to dry.
