BA7. Visual StudiesEscapism

IntroductionFor this project I wanted to focus on escapism, and how to give somebody just a moment where they can feel completely absorbed and free from the worries of every day live.


EscapismAfter looking at many different themes, artists, styles and theories I decided that for me the most interesting type of escapism is “Immersive” where you can escape to a different situation where you can interact with the new scenario.


My AimsI had a few aims I wanted to achieve with my idea:

- Create a moment of bliss- Something rewarding- Something special- Something unique- Something of Intrigue


UniqueAfter much research and development, I came up with a truly unique item, which was a custom designed puzzle giving the sense of speciality, uniqueness and a sense of reward when completing it. This almost fulfilled two of my goals.


Something SpecialTo make people feel special, they need to feel selected, or picked. So I need to distribute the puzzle in such a way that they feel they have been chosen for it.

The best way to do this? Let fate decide.


IntrigueFinding the balloon and discovering its meaning.


RewardThe person then realises whats happening, and as a reward they are allowed to participate with some other select few people in their own private puzzle world.


Moment of BlissThis is where the journey takes you, these past couple of minutes were you’ve been immersed in something out of the ordinary taking away all your worries. Lets you become part of something bigger.


InteractDiscuss, Race, Help- Do any or all of these things with others from around the world. Spread the word and help further the feelings of joy.


DiscoverDiscover all the new people you are now connected with, where ever they are in the world!


ShareShare your moment with the world, and participate in others.


Spread the wordAs more balloons and puzzles are found, more people will be talking about it. We help this by providing adverts letting others know about the game!


A Viral WebOnce the internet has caught wind of the game, it will go viralgetting even more people talking about it!


ReflectionLooking back at my goals I feel that I’ve hit every single one, and hopefuly created something that people will feel a part of, allowed them to escape from reality, even if it was just for a couple of minutes and created a compeltely unique experience.
