    Definition Essay

A good piece of academic writing should be simple, not complex to the reader, filled

with visualization for the reader. The audience attention should be immediately obtained in a

good academic writing. Through the workshops attended, the class has been able to compile

lists of ideas for what a good academic writing should look like to the class. On May 21st, the

class formed workshops for a paper creation by drawing cartoon pictures of what steps would

be taken to prepare a paper for presentation. The workshop formed helped in the organization

of an academic writing that has never been performed in the past by some of the students,

    including myself.

The most interesting topic of discussion and writing process experienced in the course

is the Revision Process. During the revision process, the writer has the ability to change

anything from the wording to indentations in the body of the writing. During a classroom

    activity on May 23rd

, the class was assigned to rewrite a paragraph that was assigned by

Professor Keaton. The class was given three paragraphs and asked by the Professor to identify

the revising that was performed to the paragraphs. Students were asked to give insight on what

they thought would be a better revised model. Professor Keaton asked the class for feedback on

what thoughtful revision meant to the groups. Thoughtful revision should for all intent and

purposes are a self-inventory of the authors writing for the audience to interpret the meaning.

Revision is heartfelt, keeps the audience attention, and does sway the reader to

understand its content. During this same day on May 23rd

, the subject of choice for the blog

created was Revision. Even though revision is a constant reflected upon subject, it is a

necessary subject to reflected upon. Without revising, the best writing possibilities could not be

achieved because academic writers need it to give a clear, concise writing and understanding of

the discussed subject at hand. Self-corrections are always a good rule of thumb for revising, but

critiquing performed by an unbiased individual is always the norm because you will be given

honest feedback for thoughtful revision from new eyes, a new perspective. During high school

years, having the privilege to write academically was not a given option. In college, writing

academically is as common as drinking a glass of water.

Rewinding the clock and adding writing into daily English classroom assignments

would be wonderful so students of the 80s could be well prepared for the writing process.

High School English classes in the 80s were mostly of Literature-based structure. The

enjoyment of reading and not writing is now a thing of the past, A Dream Deferred,

(Langston Hughes). Speaking of a dream deferred, wanting to become a high school English

teacher is going to require intense reading, writing on a collegiate level for the task at hand.

Craving all the rules of engagement for writing academically is the only way to lead future

students in the correct formats for creating and revising a paper. Some of the academic

resources for English Expository Writing is the Models for Writers, Eleventh Edition, library

resources, online web/media, and finally, the Professor of the English class that is attended.

With the resources stated above, achievement of academic writing is within reach.
