I am brainstorming rough ideas of the possible features that would be essential in the outcome of our film. Therefore I am mainly focusing on the mise en scene, as I feel this area would need to be covered well enough for us to progress onto a storyline which includes preferences of our target audience. On that account, I generally feel, a movie set in this era would be relative to the audience; yet links to the past could be more intriguing.

Possible storyline ideas

A current Chinese traditional dancer moves into an old house with his family, and is encountered by an evil, ancient spirit whom lived fifty years ago, and was also a respective dancer in his time. This spirit will go to any extremes to get inside the body of this talented dancer, however, the fearless dancer knows how to deal with this highly dangerous ghost, resulting in hidden talents of martial arts revealed, slowly revealing traits inherited from his great-grandfather, with a tragic flashback revealed of the hardships the grandfather faced, who in fact...is the spirit.

A group of strangers are unfortunately faced with a life or death situation, when they come in contact with each other at a foot of a maze which they cannot seem to avoid. This surreal event forces them to enter this deadly maze, once in, they definitely cannot get out. Being in an unknown location, and set in the night, it certainly adds to the anxiety. As they enter, they are met with some extremely life-threatening situations, definitely a game/trick played by the devil. What they don’t realise is somehow, they are connected to each other, and the further they progress into the maze, they slowly find out the truth about themselves, and why they were all put in this together, as they are all linked to one dirty secret. Determined to stay alive, they are faced with mass tears, new friendships, new betrayals, death and most importantly-survival. The question is, who is able to cheat death? Act wisely, and get out.

Existing movie Storyline-idea Suggestion

Personally there was one film I feel inspired by, and also could be a suggested storyline idea; which is a movie based in my language; Tamil. The movie is called ‘Anniyan’ which means Stranger in English. In brief, the story is based on the story of a lawyer (Ambi) who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder. Ambi is an innocent and honest lawyer, if he comes across anyone not obeying the law, he files cases against them but all his efforts go in vain. His constant habit to be perfect in rules and honesty leads him to develop a Multiple Personality Disorder in which a new personality in him grows as Anniyan, a grim reaper-themed killer, and starts a website called www.anniyan.com to hear people's complaints. The character of Anniyan is violent and deranged, and Ambi has

no clue that such a monster exists within him. When Ambi comes across a violation of the law, he makes complaints in his website. When he is Anniyan, he goes and kills the lawbreaker(s) by methods used for torturing people in hell. He apparently takes the definition of these methods from the Garuda Puranam (a holy book in Hinduism).

The way the story unveils is extremely unnerving, and includes a great plot; the above details

were only the baseline. Even though this movie is considered a psychological thriller more than

a horror or action, the aspects within the climax prove to show signs of horror and action, and I

believe this film can be kept in mind to adopt some innovative ideas.
