PHOTOGRAPHY-ALICE IN WONDERLAND

FINAL MAJOR PROJECT;

Settings/ Locations:

‘The setting in Wonderland is a strange and crazy world that is entered by dropping into a rabbit hole and ends up in a woods/fields which turns out to be inhabited by strange creatures and weird things keep happening.’

Settings/ locations are important, it will show the viewers that the photographs are Alice in Wonderland because in the film they use the same type of locations ‘weird/woods’.

I am going to take some of my photographs in a lake/woods in Walkden or in Worlsey woods. Once I have set up all the props and got the characters/ models into place it will look like Alice in Wonderland once the photographs have been taken and edited. I am going to use a variety of different parts of the woos. These images are all photographs of the woods and which parts I think may look good for the setting of my photographs.

The characters are important in Alice in Wonderland photography because just showing the scene wouldn’t make the photographs as eye catching and the setting might not be obvious on what the photographs are meant to be of.

There is a variety of different characters in Alice in Wonderland.I have chosen the characters which I want to use in my photographs. These character are-

Alice:’The main character, she falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures.’

Queen of Hearts- ‘She is a foul-tempered monarch, that Carroll himself pictured as "a blind fury", and who is quick to decree death sentences at the slightest offense. Her most famous line, one which she repeats often, is "Off with their heads!“ ‘

Mad Hatter-‘He is often referred to as the Mad Hatter. The phrase "mad as a hatter referred to as "both mad" first appearing in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, in the seventh chapter titled "A Mad Tea-Party".’

King of Hearts-‘He is the king consort of the Queen of Hearts. The only moderate part of the Wonderland government, he’s a quiet character.’

Card Soldiers –‘The Queen and king of hearts soldiers’

Costumes:

Costumes are important because they show the characters in the photographs. They give each specific character a different look, I’m going to try my best to make the characters look like the characters in ‘Alice and Wonderland.’ I am going to use face paints/ body paints on my models which may help my characters look more like what they’re suppose to be for example; The Caterpillar- The photograph I have found on the internet is a girl body painted slightly blue an is wrapped in a blue sheet, even though it isn’t the caterpillar costume it’s obvious what it is.

Alice- Light Blue Dress.King Of Hearts- Throne & Crown.Queen Of Hearts- Black, white and Red dress with hearts on. Mad Hatter- Weird/old clothing, top hat, orange afro wig.Card Soldiers- Heart cards costume. Etc…

Props:

Props are important in photography because it makes the photographs a lot more interesting and eye catching. They can also show the viewer what the photographs are aimed on for example- A photograph of cards and the Alice and Wonderland clock would make the photographs more noticeable. The props are important in Alice in Wonderland, especially in the ‘Tea Party’ scene. The tea party needs a lot of props- Table, Chairs, Tea cup set (cups, saucers, tea pot, etc..), table cloth, picnic basket and etc… Also some of the characters use some props in their costumes for example- The mad hatter uses a walking stick. King and Queens Crowns. Caterpillar holding a hookah. Etc…

Some props I am going to use are cards, tea cup set, table set, cake, tea, books, Clock, Walking stick, crowns.

Camera Angles/ Techniques:

Angles are important in photography, they’re used to make the photographs more interesting and eye catching for the audience. They all show different things for example close ups/ extreme close ups can show emotion of a certain scene on their face. For example: The Queen of Hearts gets angry easily and I am planning on taking a close up of the face she pulls when she’s shouting at Alice or when she catches someone she wants to behead.

Some angles I am going to use are:High Angle: I am going to use this angle when Alice is falling/ fell down the rabbit hole and is on the floor with cards scattered around her. Low Angle: I am going to use this angle when Alice is looking down the rabbit hole to show it’s obvious what she is doing in the photograph. Close-Up: I am going to use this angle to show different characters emotions.

Some photography techniques I am going to use will be framing, rule of thirds, leading lines, balancing elements, patterns & symmetry and depth of field. These are important in photography they make the photographs eye catching and not just simple. Some photographs look boring when taken from straight ahead.
