• Brunswick deals in multiple products . Its view to improve its supply chain. He is a eager to simplify its manufacturing operations. To do so, the Company is looking at upgrading and improving its various Supply Chain system.

• Currently company uses several homemade warehouse management systems in various parts of the company, as well as i2 Technologies Inc.’s Factory Planner software in its outboard manufacturing plant.

• Supply chain are, by definition a kludge of systems, comprising software for manufacturing, warehousing, inventory control, planning, shipping, and logistics.

• Supply chain has now become a very important function for any company because company see the chance not only squeeze out cost but also use efficient & effective supply chain to bump up Sell.

• They also involve intimate relationships with supplier and partners, and , on the front end, an increasing dependence on the input of customer.

• All issue relating to supply chain can’t be solved with supply chain application. Brunswick is attempting to gain control over the various systems in its supply chain by getting a better grip on the data they generate.

• The product are generally of two types:• Supply Chain execution software: Which

addresses particular segment along the supply chain, such as warehouse management or transportation management.

• Supply chain-planning software: Which helps companies decide which product to built and when, based on forecast, orders, capacity, and resources.

• ERP vendors such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, and SAP have been adding supply chain elements to their product lines to help fuel growth in a slow-moving market. These vendors enjoy the advantage of providing systems that control other backend functions and the data they generate.

• Whirlpool would like to work with a single vendor to provide the bulk of its supply chain needs, and SAP is its vendor of choice.

• Whirlpool plans to update the i2 planning applications that it uses in the United States, and implementing SAP’s Advanced Planning and Optimization software in its Europen operations to help customer in that region better plan for demand by analyzing point-of-sale, inventory, and receivable data.

• Whirlpool’s increasing investment in SAP, instead of a wide variety of vendor, is strategic. We can get more leverage, we have a say in upcoming products, and it makes every thing easier in terms of maintenance and training, “Sagar says”

What is the business value of SCM systems for Brunswick and Whirlpool?

• Considering the companies like Brunswick which has a long line of products and World’s best home appliances maker Whirlpool, SCM is a major player in their growth. Identifying the need of a particular product in the complex supply system should be accurate and time bound. Availability of product in market is key to business. Many companies are launching new products, devoting money and attention in advertising but fails to deliver product to customer in stores or finally to customers. Whirlpool adopted the most popular SAP software for the supply chain management, the innovator and leader in SCM plate forms. Acquiring SAP supported SCM system simplify the codes of requirement and provide unique protocol to meet and accomplice product sales and availability to the customers.

Does the business value of SCM depend upon what type of business a company is in? Explain.

• Yes! I feel business value is the only core criteria to exploit the SCM business value. Best example of SCM value is WalMart retails.In Canada, Walmart exclusively used SCM to increase its projected growth rate. It includes constructing new stores and managing their demand and supply in accurate manner. It is fascinating to learn that Distributing 16,000 Cartons per Hour with Accuracy and Expediency by Walmart is a result of Key protocols of SCM Inc. distribution network. However, services oriented firms mainly rely on providing services in a contract or time manner so the business value of SCM in such firms (like telecommunication) are limited to basic supplies (phones, peripherals etc.).
