Alison DeChambeau UWRT 1101-073 Final Reflection
As I finish off my first semester of college, I’ve looked back at my past assignments
dealing with my eportfolio. After completing all the writing assignments, I came to a conclusion
that writing sure has a process. Not only is writing a process but life is a process as well. While
learning more about the writing process, I found a very interesting quote that I was fond of.
Christina Istrati stated that, “Writing is not just a process of creation. It is also a process of self-
discovery.” As I read this quote, I realized that it means a lot more than just what it may seem. I
really thought about this quote in depth and I believe it really brought together my eportfolio as a
whole.
When I was going through the process of completing each assignment, I learned about
the importance of having a process. For example, when starting the ethnography, I really didn’t
look forward to doing the research and going through peer review but in the end I realized that
all the “extra” work only helped me. It was tough for me to start up my ethnography writing
assignment but somehow each step of the process brought the overall product together as a
whole. For the ethnography, I had to learn more about avid runners and how their community
differs from other communities. I had to basically observe their running lifestyle and although
this may seem like a tiresome writing assignment, it was just part of the overall process. The
process of learning more about runners only strengthened my ethnography paper. After writing
stages 1-3, I was able to complete my final ethnography quite easily because I was able to pull
information from stages 1-3 into the final paper.

Another thing I realized about my writing process was about how successful peer reviews
were for me. Usually I don’t feel comfortable when allowing other people read my papers but
however I realized by doing that, I could get another person’s point of view and/or opinion which
could possibly strengthen my paper. When comparing a few of my rough drafts to my final
drafts, I also realized that there was a pretty big difference between the papers. Many of my
rough drafts were too short, had no flow, and didn’t clearly follow the assignments’ guidelines.
Once myself and peers reviewed my paper, I was able to make more connections with my papers
and create a successful final draft.
Finally I decided to review my Weebly eportfolio website as a whole. I think I could've
possibly done better with the design of the website but however I do think it is still pretty good.
The website is simple but informative when it comes to my papers and other assignments for the
class. I really did enjoy playing around with the fonts and backgrounds on my website. I also like
that my website is very easy to navigate as well. I chose to put “The Process” quote on my main
page so readers could understand the whole process of my website. Not only was it a process to
complete the assignments but it was also a process to create the website. And not only was it a
process for me to observe runners but it was also a process for the runners to go out there and
run. When it comes down to the basics, everything tends to have a process and the only way to
complete the process is to go through every step of the process.

Alison DeChambeau UWRT 1101-073 Final Reflection
As I go into my second semester of college, I hope to increase my literacy in writing.
However I do not hope for any more writing assignments then the amount I had in this writing
class. I feel as if this writing class had the perfect amount of writing assignments. I also hope to
not procrastinate as much this second semester. By trying to rush and complete an assignment in
time, especially writing assignments, could possibly negatively affect the overall grade. I also
would like to try to be more involved in my writing class next semester but I wouldn’t be able to
make any promises. I really do dread talking to people in public, especially if it’s in front of
basically a group of strangers. However, I think it would be good for me to get more comfortable
with public speaking.
After reflecting on the majority of my writing assignments, I came to the conclusion that
I honestly don't think my writing has changed much since the beginning of the semester. I feel as
if I do still have a lot to learn to perfect my writing but I do believe I’m headed in the right
direction when it comes to the writing process. So as I continue on to my second semester of
college, I hope to trust “the process” and continue on with perfecting my writing skills by just
going along with the process.
