IntroductionThis guide is intended to help answer questions about how to find and apply for different types of financial assistance for college. At Eastern Wyoming College, more than 90% of full-time freshman students receive some type of funding to help pay educational costs, whether in the form of grants, scholarships, employment programs, tuition remissions, third-party payments, or other outside resources. The key is to submit applications for everything possible by published deadlines and provide any additional information requested in a timely manner. Please contact EWC’s Financial Aid Office for assistance.

Sources of aidFinancial aid comes from many different sources: Federal, state, institutional and outside resources can all help pay for college. Aid also comes in different types, such as grants, scholarships, employment, loans; each source of aid may have multiple types available.

Grants and Scholarships vs. Loans:Grants and scholarships are considered “gift aid” and generally do not have to be repaid (except under certain circumstances where a student withdraws from an entire semester); however, loans MUST BE PAID BACK. That’s why students should apply for all the grants and scholarships that are available before choosing to go into debt.

Aid eligibilityTo be considered for most types of financial aid at EWC, a student must: • Complete EWC’s Application for Admission, • Be accepted into a degree or certificate program, • Have an official high school or high school equivalency transcript (GED/HiSET/TASC) on file with the Admissions Office, • Make Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by EWC’s SAP Policies for financial aid, and • Enroll at least half time (six credits) for most programs (except Pell and certain scholarships)Each source and type of aid may have additional requirements as defined by the individual program or donor.

FEDERAL sources of aid

STATE sources of aid

The U.S. Government is the largest source of financial aid for college. To qualify for any of the federal aid programs listed below, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year online at StudentAid.gov. EWC’s School Code is 003929. Federal aid programs available at EWC include: • Pell Grant • Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant/Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) • Federal Work Study • Federal Direct Loans Direct Subsidized Loans Direct Unsubsidized Loans Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)EWC’s priority deadline for FAFSA completion is March 15.

Please note that many scholarships and other aid programs require completion of the FAFSA to determine financial need; EWC’s Financial Aid Office encourages ALL students to complete the FAFSA yearly, even if they do not think they will be Pell eligible, because of the requirement to determine need.

Sources of aid

Hathaway Scholarships are designed to provide an incentive for Wyoming students to prepare for and pursue post-secondary education within the state of Wyoming. The program, which was named in honor of former Wyoming Governor and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Stanley K. Hathaway, consists of four separate levels of merit scholarships, each with specific eligibility requirements, and a need-based scholarship for eligible students that supplements the merit awards. The need-based scholarship requires completion of the FAFSA.

To apply, students must: • Complete EWC’s Application for Admission, • Complete a Hathaway Scholarship Application, • Have an official high school or high school equivalency transcript (GED/HiSET/TASC) on file with the Admissions Office, • Provide official test scores to EWC’s Admissions Office

INSTITUTIONAL sources of aid

Wyoming Works

More than 100 separate Institutional Scholarships, Foundation Awards, and Activity Grants are available to EWC students. Most scholarships require, at a minimum, a GPA of 2.0 and half-time enrollment (six credits). While the majority of scholarships require no special program of study, others are designated for students pursuing a major in areas such as: agriculture, art, business, criminal justice, education, health, social sciences, welding, etc. Eligibility requirements differ from one scholarship program to another. Criteria from various scholarship programs may relate to GPA, credit hours completed, high school affiliation, county of residence, organization membership or affiliation, enrollment level or other standards set by the donor.

Please note that scholarships are split into two equal disbursements, with half the award amount given for the fall semester and half for the spring semester if award criteria are met, unless otherwise indicated.

To be eligible for any EWC scholarships/activity grants, you must: lComplete the EWC Application for Admission. lProvide an official high school (or high school equivalency) transcript. A final, official high school transcript with your graduation date must be on file in order for state and federal aid to be disbursed. lProvide official college transcripts from any other colleges you have attended. lSome scholarships require ACT scores as well. lComplete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Many scholarships require information from the FAFSA to determine need. The FAFSA must be completed every year.

Apply online by logging into your MyEWC account and clicking the Scholarship App button. New students receive a user name and password for their MyEWC account with their acceptance for admission. Students can contact EWC’s Help Desk for any issues with their MyEWC user name or password at 307.534.2912 m3.

The priority deadline for applying for 2020-2021 scholarships is March 15, but you may continue to update your application and reapply for Spring 2021 and/or Summer 2021 awards by logging back in and changing your answer to the term you are applying for. Be sure to reapply for the next academic year as well.

All students seeking scholarships or federal financial aid for the Summer must complete EWC’s online scholarship application via their MyEWC account. Summer scholarship awards are based on funding available and general eligibility requirements. Federal aid for summer is based on amount of annual Pell and loan already used for the academic year in comparison with annual limits. Graduating high school seniors can get federal aid for the summer semester, but must submit the current year’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit a final, official high school transcript. A separate award package is created for the summer semester. To apply for loans for the summer sessions, a student must be enrolled in at least six credits and complete a separate loan request form from the academic year.

Wyoming Works is a new need-based state grant program signed into law March 2019 with resources targeted at adult students to advance their skills in areas that lead to secure employment. Students can receive up to $1,680 per academic year for the Wyoming Works Standard Grant and up to $3,360 for the Wyoming Works Critical Grant depending on need. Students cannot be currently receiving or eligible to receive the Hathaway Scholarship and must be in an approved program of study. Programs that qualify under Wyoming Works are those which meet labor and economic development needs, and may be for-credit or non-credit. Please refer to EWC’s website at https://ewc.wy.edu/future-students/financial-aid/wyoming-works/ for an up-to-date list of approved programs and a detailed description of all eligibility requirements. To apply, students must: • Complete EWC’s Application for Admission, • Have an official high school or high school equivalency transcript (GED/HiSET/TASC) on file with the Admissions Office, • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year, including all required supple mental documentation, prior to the start of classes, • Complete a Wyoming Works application

• Be enrolled in an approved program of study

Carl & Orma Oberg Scholarship +

Graduating Torrington, WY high school seniors carrying a 2.50 or higher GPA are considered for this award. Preference is given to students who have not been awarded other scholarships. One award is given each year; the amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Cecilia Casillas Scholarship + Students from Goshen, Platte, or Niobrara County, WY who are majoring in pre-medicine, pre-nursing, or other medical field, or are pursuing the Certified Nursing Assistant program are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

City of Torrington – Wyoming Community Gas Scholarship +

EWC freshman or sophomore students who graduated from Torrington High School in Wyoming are eligible for this $1,750 scholarship. Students must have at least a 2.50 GPA to be considered.

Black & Gold Award

This award encourages timely completion of classes and rewards successful progress toward a degree. Applicants must be new EWC students who are seeking a degree or certificate. Degree-seeking students must enroll in and successfully complete at least 15 credits (non-concurrent) and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 each consecutive semester to receive incremental awards ($300, $500, $500). Certificate-seeking students are eligible for $300 after successful completion of one term (12-15 credits depending on credit requirements of the certificate; must complete at least half of the program’s required credits). A recipient completing a one-year certificate may be eligible for the second year of the award if returning for a degree program in the next semester.

EWC SCHOLARSHIPSAlbert “Ab” Harris Memorial Scholarship +

Freshman students actively participating in an EWC athletic or music program with at least a 3.00 GPA are eligible for this $500 scholarship.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming ScholarshipWyoming residents majoring in a health-related program are eligible for one $1000 scholarshipoffered each year.

Bloedorn Lumber Company ScholarshipOne graduate from each of the three Goshen County, WY high schools (Torrington, Southeast, and Lingle-Fort Laramie) is considered for a $1,000 scholarship.

Bob & Martha Erickson Memorial Scholarship* +

Traditional and non-traditional students with financial need who have been long-term Goshen County, WY residents are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment. Applications are due June 1.

Arlene Shindledecker Memorial Scholarship * +

Full-time students with a minimum 3.20 GPA and financial need as determined by the FAFSA are eligible. The scholarship provides a minimum of $1,750 for one year.

Alma Anker Memorial Scholarship +

Incoming freshmen with a minimum high school GPA of 3.50 or higher are considered for this $300 award. Preference is given to students intending to major in history, English, psychology, or sociology.

Scholarships marked with * require the FAFSA to be completed. / Scholarships marked with + are EWC Foundation scholarships.

Clapp Family Endowment Scholarship +

Goshen County, WY high school graduates with financial need who plan to enroll in at least six credits are considered for this award. The student must have a program of study emphasizing science. The scholarship amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Cody McKinney Memorial (Goshen County Rooster Boosters) Scholarship +

Three $400 awards are provided by the Goshen County Rooster Boosters each year to freshman or sophomore students carrying at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Goshen County, WY, residency is NOT required.

Eastern Wyoming College Part-Time Student Grant-in-Aid *

This award is available for students enrolled less than full-time (3-11 credits) on the Torrington Campus who have a high school diploma or equivalent and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00. The grant pays the equivalent of in-state tuition costs plus $125 toward book costs each semester for one year. Applicants must reapply to be considered for an additional year.

David Eddington and Gertrude Poage Eddington Scholarship * +

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who graduated from a high school in Niobrara, Goshen, or Laramie counties in Wyoming with a minimum of 2.50 GPA and financial need. The award amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Eastern Wyoming College President’s Honor Scholarship

Graduating high school seniors with a minimum 3.80 GPA and/or 25 composite ACT score are eligible for waivers of in-state tuition and fees for up to 15 credits plus a $500 book stipend for two years if eligibility is maintained. ACT scores are required. Full time enrollment (at least 12 credits) is required.

Eastern Wyoming College Employee-Sponsored Scholarship +

Students who graduated from high school within the last two years who have a minimum GPA of 3.00 are eligible to apply for this $500 award provided by EWC employees. If no entering freshmen meet qualifications, then a continuing EWC student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 in satisfactory financial aid standing may be selected. Preference is given to students who are children, stepchildren, grandchildren or step-grandchildren of active, benefited EWC employees. Other sources of financial aid are considered. Applications must be submitted by May 15.

Eastern Wyoming College Department Scholarships

High school graduates, current EWC students or transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher enrolled full time (at least 12 credits) are considered for this award. Preference is given to students with an ACT score of 18 or higher. Up to 39 scholarships per year are awarded for in-state tuition. Awards are chosen by and may be renewed for a second year at the discretion of respective Division Chairs in consultation with division faculty. ACT scores are required.

Dr. F.S. Brown Scholarship * +

One $600 scholarship is provided yearly by the Torrington Lions Club to a full-time sophomore or second-year student who has demonstrated financial need during his/her freshman year. Preference is given to Goshen County, WY residents.

Downing-Reed Scholarship +

Platte or Goshen County, WY high school graduates are eligible for this scholarship. The award amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

David Ludwig Memorial Scholarship +

In-state tuition remission is granted each year to one freshman or sophomore welding student with a 2.00 or higher GPA.


MyEWC

Eastern Wyoming College Outreach and Douglas Campus Incentive Grant*

The Outreach and Douglas Campus Incentive Grants are available to any student with at least a 2.00 GPA who is taking the majority of his/her studies at or through an EWC Outreach Center or the Douglas Campus. The award pays in-state tuition for five or more credits. Current students and transfer students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress eligibility requirements as established in the EWC Satisfactory Academic Progress Policies for Financial Aid. Completion of the FAFSA is required. Official transcripts from High School and all other previous colleges/universities must be on file.

Goshen County Quilters Scholarship +

One scholarship of varying award amount is given per year, preferably to students in the fine arts.

Goshen Cattlewomen Scholarship *

One $350 scholarship is awarded to a sophomore majoring in agriculture each year. Preference is given to students with financial need who are from Goshen County, WY.

Ima Lynch Memorial Scholarship * +

Students with considerable financial need as determined by the FAFSA and who have demonstrated scholastic ability are considered for this award. The award amount and number of awards varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

First-Generation Student Scholarship *

This EWC award pays in-state tuition for four full-time semesters (or the equivalent of four full-time semesters if the student attends part time) for first-generation students (i.e., biological parents did not complete a baccalaureate degree). Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 each semester and successfully complete the credit-hour load for which they were awarded to continue receiving the scholarship.

GEAR UP Wyoming EWC Tuition Scholarship * Students who have attended GEAR UP Wyoming tutoring/advising at least four times a year while a GEAR UP student, who have attended at least one GEAR UP Wyoming Summer Academy and who have gone on a college visit at an institution other than the host institution before high school graduation are eligible to apply for this one-year award. The scholarship pays for in-state tuition. Book or fee scholarships may be given if the student already has a tuition award. Students must enroll full-time, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00, and complete at least 12 hours a semester to maintain scholarship eligibility.

Farm Credit Services of America Scholarship

Two traditional sophomore students enrolled in agricultural coursework are awarded this $2,000 scholarship each year. Awardees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 and be a permanent resident of Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, or Wyoming. Preference is given to students intending to return to the farm/ranch or a farm-related job in a rural community.

EWC Staff Alliance Leadership Scholarship +

One incoming freshman student with a minimum high school GPA of 3.50 is eligible to receive this $500 scholarship each year.

Elizabeth “Betty” Kelly Memorial Scholarship +

This scholarship is open to any EWC student. The award amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Edward Lee Lynch Memorial Scholarship * +

Students with considerable financial need as determined by the FAFSA and who have demonstrated scholastic ability are considered for this award. The award amount and number of awards varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Gail Branham Memorial Scholarship * +

Students majoring in cosmetology, esthetics, hair technology, barbering or nail technology who graduated from a Wyoming high school are eligible to receive this award. A minimum GPA of 2.00 and financial need are required. Award amount varies according to the additions to and earings of the endowment.

Goshen County Beet Growers Scholarship * +

The Goshen County Beet Growers Association provides a scholarship of at least $700 ($350 a semester for one academic year) each year to a freshman or sophomore EWC student who comes from an agricultural background. Applicants must enroll full time (at least 12 credits) and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. Financial need and academic performance are considered. Applications have an April 1 deadline.

International Student Scholarship

International students accepted for admission at EWC and willing to be actively involved with EWC’s Institutional Culture Committee may apply for this scholarship. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 and successful completion of at least 12 EWC credit hours a semester plus involvement on the EWC Institutional Culture Committee may be required to receive the second semester of the award. Students may re-apply for a second year. Award amounts vary.

Jeannie Wells Memorial Scholarship * +

Awarding preference is given to recent graduates of Southeast High School, WY, with a GPA between 2.00 and 3.00 who demonstrate financial need. One scholarship of at least $700 is given per year.

Jim Hudelson Memorial Scholarship * +

A full-time student with need who has completed two semesters toward an Associate Degree of Nursing and who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is eligible for this scholarship. Award amounts may be up to $1,000 depending on earnings of the endowment.

Jeannine Joyce Hill Memorial Scholarship * +

High-achieving students with a 3.00 or higher GPA seeking a degree or certificate in an agricultural or veterinary program are eligible to apply for this $1,000 per year ($500 per semester) award. Students must enroll full-time (12+ credits per term) and display financial need as determined by FAFSA results. Students may be considered to receive the scholarship a second year by continuing to meet requirements and reapplying.

Irv Larsen Memorial Scholarship * +

One history major (or a student who has successfully completed at least one college-level history course) is eligible to receive this $525 award each year provided by the Goshen County Chapter of the Wyoming Historical Society. A minimum GPA of 2.50 is required to receive the award and retain the scholarship for the second semester. Financial need is preferred, but not required.

John P. Lenhart Agriculture Scholarship * +

Incoming students with a 3.00 or higher GPA and demonstrated financial need are eligible for this scholarship provided by the estate of Gladyce Lenhart Heye. Preference is given to students pursuing an agriculture-related area of study such as veterinary science, veterinary technology, ag-business, ag-economics, or farm/ranch management. The award amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Jo Davis Memorial Vet Tech Scholarship +

One veterinary technology student interested in small animal care receives this $500 scholarship provided by the James Davis Family each year.

Joe and Mary Jane Kendall Scholarship * +

This $350 scholarship provided by Donna Beth Downer is available for full-time students with a 3.2 GPA and financial need. Preference is given to students in STEM fields. Students may reapply for a second year of the award. Future award amounts will vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Jo Davis Memorial Scholarship +

Students from the Lingle-Fort Laramie area or graduates of Lingle-Fort Laramie High School in Wyoming are eligible for one $500 scholarship provided by the James Davis Family each year.

Jim Wiseman Memorial Scholarship +

Graduates of Torrington or Lingle-Fort Laramie high schools in Wyoming who are interested in teaching, coaching, or athletics and have earned a minimum GPA of 2.50 can apply for this scholarship. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

John P. Lenhart Nursing Scholarship * +

Goshen County, WY residents with a strong scholastic ability and demonstrated financial need are eligible for this scholarship provided by the estate of Gladyce Lenhart Heye. Preference is given to students pursuing a course of study in nursing. The award amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment. Students must be enrolled and attending full-time (at least 12 credits). ACT scores are preferred.

L.C. Atkins & Mary Lou Atkins Scholarship * +

A full-time student demonstrating strong academic performance is eligible for this scholarship. Preference may be given to students with financial need. The number of awards granted and amount of award varies yearly according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Kathy Francisco Memorial Scholarship +

One scholarship of varying amount is available each year to graduates of Lyman, Morrill, or Mitchell, NE high schools or Southeast High School in Wyoming who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00.

Kathryn Winship Scholarship +

Two $1,500 scholarships are awarded each year to high school graduates who are pursuing an education degree, with a preference given to elementary education majors. The deadline for high school seniors to apply is March 15; for current college students, the deadline is May 15. Recipients may re-apply for a second year of the award.

Kaylie Haun Memorial Scholarship +This scholarship provided by the friends and family of Kaylie Haun is open to full-time, female students. Preference is given to Nebraska or Wyoming high school rodeo association past members. If no member from these associations apply or is not eligible, then students who participate in other rodeo associations or rodeo activities are eligible. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment. This scholarship is restricted as to gender; selection is based on a process that conforms to non-discrimination requirements under federal law.

Kellie Burden Memorial Scholarship +

A freshman or sophomore student who is a Wyoming resident majoring in education is eligible for this $100 scholarship. Preference is given to special education majors.

Kenneth Dill Memorial Scholarship * +

The family of Kenneth Dill provides one scholarship worth a minimum of $1,100 a year to a full-time returning student with a 3.0 or higher GPA and who has been out of high school for at least two years.

Judith Poage-Wright and Alan Poage Memorial Scholarship * +

Students with financial need who graduated from a Niobrara or Goshen County, WY high school with a GPA of at least 2.50 will be considered for this scholarship. Students must maintain a 2.50 GPA to be considered for scholarship renewal. The award amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Jolovich Family Endowment * +

Students with demonstrated financial need and at least a 2.50 GPA are considered for this scholarship provided by Edward and Alyce M. Jolovich. The award amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Kenny & Alice Youtz Memorial Scholarship * +

This scholarship is given in even-numbered years to an EWC freshman who is a recent graduate of a Goshen County, WY high school. Financial need may be considered, but is not required. The award amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Kenyon Family Scholarship +

Students who participated in high school extracurricular and community service activities and who maintained at least a 2.00 GPA are eligible to apply for this award sponsored by the Rev. John R. This $240 award is given to a non-traditional adult student with financial need. Preference is given to Goshen or Platte County, WY residents.

L.W. & Jean Maxfield Memorial Scholarship +

An EWC freshman or sophomore student with a minimum high school or college GPA of 3.00 is eligible for this award provided by the Maxfield family. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Lloyd & Marian McElhaney Scholarship +

EWC freshman or sophomore students who demonstrate scholastic ability are eligible to receive this scholarship worth a minimum of $2,000. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 is required to receive and maintain this award provided by Marian McElhaney.

Lions Club Scholarship +

One $600 award is given annually by the Torrington Lions Club to a full-time incoming freshman who is a Goshen County, WY resident who demonstrates scholastic ability.

Melvin G. Willenbrink Welding Scholarship +

A freshman or sophomore student with a minimum GPA of 2.0 who is seeking a degree in welding or is in a program related to the welding industry may apply for this scholarship. The scholarship amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Margaret F. Tebbet Scholarship +

A freshman or sophomore with the potential for academic success is eligible for this $500 scholarship.

Margaret Hageman Memorial Scholarship * +

The estate of Margaret Hageman has provided this award for full-time students who show academic ability and financial need. Applicants must be Wyoming residents majoring in education who have completed at least one semester of college. Preference is given to non-traditional students and those with a background as a teacher’s aide. The number of awards granted and amount of award varies yearly according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Maffe Family Memorial Scholarship * +

This $600 scholarship provided by the Maffe family is available to students with demonstrated financial need.

Mareen Goddard Scholarship * +

Goshen county female residents with financial need may apply for this $800 ($400 per term) scholarship. Students must have a 2.5 GPA to receive and maintain this award for the second semester. This scholarship is restricted as to gender; selection is based on a process that conforms to non-discrimination requirements under federal law.

Mildred Kidney Scholarship * +

Eligible graduates of any Goshen County, WY high school with demonstrated financial need who have been residents of Goshen County, WY for at least five years are eligible to apply. Preference is given to Yoder area residents. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Molly Moss Memorial Scholarship * +

Friends and family of Molly Moss have provided a $250 scholarship for a second-year student majoring in veterinary technology with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.

Students with financial need majoring in an academic or vocational program are eligible to receive an $800 scholarship provided by P.E.O. Chapter AK. Applicants must be currently completing high school or a current EWC student who plans to enroll at EWC in the fall semester. This scholarship is restricted as to gender (female); selection is based on a special process that conforms to non-discrimination requirements under federal law.

P.E.O. Chapter AU Scholarship *

Students with financial need who are returning to school to continue education after an absence due to having children, financial difficulty, etc., are eligible for one of two $1,000 awards given to P.E.O. Chapter AU. This scholarship is restricted as to gender (female); selection is based on a special process that conforms to non-discrimination requirements under federal law.

Graduating seniors at Wheatland and Niobrara County high schools in Wyoming who have a minimum 2.50 GPA are eligible to apply for this $600 scholarship provided by Torrington Beverage, Inc. Deadline for submission is March 10.

Pinnacle Bank Business Scholarship

A full-time student who is a Goshen County, WY resident enrolled in (or planning to enroll in) a business-related course of study is considered for this $500 scholarship.

Platte Valley American Bikers Acting Toward Education (ABATE) Scholarship *+

This $500 ($250 per semester) award for books and supplies is available for incoming freshman with financial need for books and supplies. Students must be enrolled full-time (12+ credits per term).

Pinnacle Bank Agriculture Scholarship

A full-time student who is a Goshen County, WY resident enrolled in (or planning to enroll in) an agriculture-related course of study is considered for this $500 scholarship.

Nathan Pieper Memorial Scholarship +

Western Nebraska, western South Dakota, eastern Montana, or Wyoming residents may apply for this scholarship intended for agriculture majors. Students must enroll full time (12+ credits per term) and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. Students may be considered to receive the scholarship a second year by continuing to meet requirements and reapplying.

Platte Valley Bank Scholarship

Three $500 scholarships are available each year to full-time freshman and sophomore students who have graduated from a Goshen or Platte County, WY high school. Selection is based on, but not limited to, academic ability and effort.

Rex Tebbet Scholarship +

One scholarship is given each year to a full-time EWC student. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

R.F. Tebbet Housing Scholarship

Recent high school graduates with a minimum 3.00 GPA are eligible for this scholarship provided by EWC. The number of awards given yearly varies; scholarship may include full or partial room and/or board costs for up to two years for students living on campus.

Richard M. Baker Scholarship +

This scholarship is for non-traditional students who graduated from high school at least two years prior (or, if a high school equivalency was completed, the student’s high school class graduated two or more years prior). Students must be U.S. citizens (with preference going to Wyoming residents) enrolled at least half time (six or more credits per semester) and seeking a degree or certificate at EWC. A 2.00 or higher cumulative GPA is required to earn the award; a 2.50 or higher semester GPA is required to maintain the award for the second semester. Awards are $1,000 per year ($500 per semester).

Ruth & Glen Gorman Memorial Scholarship +

Three first- or second-year students from Goshen, Platte, or Niobrara counties in Wyoming are awarded this scholarship each year. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

R.W. Fullmer EWC Rodeo Memorial Scholarship +

Continuing EWC students who are Wyoming residents actively participating in rodeo with strong academic ability are considered for this scholarship provided by the Fullmer family. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

R.W. Weickum Memorial Scholarship * +

Family and friends of R.W. Weickum have provided an annual scholarship of at least $550 for a Goshen County, WY graduate with a minimum GPA of 2.50. Preference is given to a student majoring in agriculture or an agriculture-related field. Financial need may be considered.

Sagebrush & Roses Scholarship +

Students must apply by May 1 for one of two $1,500 scholarships provided each year by Sagebrush and Roses, an EWC Foundation fundraiser for the agriculture programs at EWC. Students must be enrolled full-time, with a minimum GPA of 2.50 each semester, and seeking a degree in an ag-related program. Selection is based on academic performance, leadership, and activities, and may be renewed for a second year based on re-application.

Summer Scholarships

Students who have already applied for scholarships via their MyEWC account and who are intending to enroll in summer classes should log back on and go to the Academic Information section of the scholarship application. In that section, students can indicate the term in which they plan to enroll in order to be considered for any institutional and/or Foundation awards for the summer session. Please note that students need to contact the Financial Aid Office to determine federal aid eligibility for Summer. Wayland H. Cato, Jr. Foundation Inc. Scholarship +

Wesch Family Memorial Scholarship +

A continuing student with financial need who has completed at least 25 college credits successfully with a GPA of at least 2.25 is eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship amount varies according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

William & Edna Smith Memorial Scholarship +

One sophomore student who is actively participating in music, English, or fine arts receives this scholarship provided by the William and Edna Smith Estate each year. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

William W. & Beverly D. Hovey Memorial Scholarship +

The family of William W. and Beverly D. Hovey provide a scholarship each year to a student majoring in agriculture or an agriculture-related field. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Wyoming National Guard Endowment +

Active members of the Wyoming National Guard enrolled in credit courses may receive this scholarship. Amounts and number of awards vary each year.

Wyoming Pork Producers Scholarship +

This award is available to full-time Wyoming resident students with a GPA of at least 2.80 who are majoring in a field beneficial to the swine industry (e.g., ag business; farm & ranch management; biology; pre-vet). Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.


Tucker Family Memorial Scholarship * +

Three scholarships worth $533 each are available to returning students who are actively involved in volleyball or basketball. Applicants must have strong scholastic ability, financial need and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00.

Trevin Vonburg Memorial Scholarship * +

This $500 scholarship provided by the family of Trevin Vonburg is for non-traditional students with need from Nebraska or Wyoming enrolled at least half time (six or more credits per semester). Preference is given for students in welding or machine tooling programs. Students may receive a second year of the award, but must reapply for consideration.

Thaler Family Scholarship +

Dennis and Sandy Thaler provide a scholarship of at least $700 to a freshman or sophomore agriculture major who graduated from a Wyoming high school with at least a 2.00 GPA. LaGrange residents with any major are preferred.

Torrington Telegram/Jo Davis Memorial Scholarship* +

Goshen County, WY residents with financial need who are (or plan to be) full-time freshman are considered for this scholarship awarded by the Torrington Telegram in memory of Jo Davis. Award is at least $250, but amount may vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment.

Wyoming Border Scholarship

Residents of states bordering Wyoming who have earned at least a 2.75 GPA and/or 21 composite ACT score are eligible for a scholarship, the amount of which is the difference between Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) and in-state tuition rates for up to 15 credits plus 15 credit hours of fees. Students must enroll full-time (12 or more credits each semester); the scholarship is automatically renewable for up to two years/four consecutive semesters for students who maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and complete at least 12 credits a semester. The number of awards varies depending on budget, but can be up to 50 scholarships awarded each year. ACT scores are required.

Eastern Wyoming College Career and Technical Education Tuition Waiver

This scholarship allows students in EWC’s service area who are participating in the Adult Education Program to receive in-state tuition waivers for up to five credits. Scholarships are awarded by the Adult Education Director.

Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Incentive Scholarship

The Lancer Incentive is a scholarship for degree-seeking incoming freshman students for their first year at EWC. May high school graduates can qualify for one of three levels of awards; the Eastern level requires a minimum high school GPA of 3.50 and/or a minimum composite score of 24 on the ACT to receive a $1,500 award ($750/semester); the Wyoming level requires a 3.00-3.49 GPA and/or 21-23 composite ACT score for a $1,000 award ($500/semester); the College level requires a 2.5-2.99 GPA and/or 18-20 composite ACT score for a $500 award ($250/semester). Students must successfully complete at least 12 EWC credits and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00 to be eligible for the second half of the award for the Spring term.

DARE/Bob Asbury Book Award

This book scholarship is available for the spring semester to students who have completed at least one semester of post-secondary education with at least a 2.50 GPA. A letter of recommendation, two references with phone numbers and a statement of educational accomplishments and goals is required with the application. Applications are available from Torrington Police Department, EWC’s Financial Aid Office or online at ewc.wy.edu. Submission deadline is usually in January; check the application for specific dates.

Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship

Goshen County, WY residents pursuing education in a medical field may apply for one of two $1,000 scholarships awarded by the Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Committee. Applications are available from EWC’s Financial Aid Office or online at ewc.wy.edu. Submission deadline is mid-March; check the application for specific dates.

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship

U.S. citizens or permanent residents planning to enroll in at least two courses during the next term at a two-year institution who have a minimum GPA of 2.50 and have engaged in community service within the previous 12 months are encouraged to apply for this national scholarship. $1,000 and $2,000 awards are available. Students may not be children or grandchildren of Coca-Cola employees. Application and guidelines available at www.coca-colascholars.org. Apply by October 31.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship

Dependent children (including adopted or step-children) of member-system consumers and dependent children of member-cooperative employees may apply for this $1,000 scholarship. Student must be a U.S. citizen planning to enroll full-time. Applications may be obtained from EWC’s Financial Aid Office or online at ewc.wy.edu; check with your local rural electric cooperative for deadline date.

American Welding Society Scholarships

Various district and national scholarships are available each year to students pursuing a welding program or related field of study. Application is made online via the American Welding Society Scholarship Application System at https://scholarship.aws.org/applications/.

Adeline Neilson Scholarship

Requests for scholarship applications are made by e-mailing the Adeline Neilson Scholarship Foundation at [email protected]. Deadline for request and submittal is in April; see application information online at ewc.wy.edu for details. Awards vary from $500 to $4,000.

Douglas Lions Club Scholarship

Awarded to a student from Converse County, WY who has been out of high school at least a year (or is considered a non-traditional student), this scholarship is available to students who are not eligible for the Hathaway Scholarship. Applications may be obtained from EWC’s Douglas Campus. Submission deadline is in April; check the application for specific dates.

Goshen County 2Shot Michael Olson Memorial Scholarship

Any student who plans to attend EWC full-time in the fall semester who does not have any other major scholarship(s) (totaling $3,500 or more) is eligible to receive this $1,000 scholarship provided by the Goshen County 2Shot Goose Hunt with proceeds from the annual 2Shot Goose Hunt Art Auction. Goshen County, WY residency is NOT required. Applicants must have and maintain a 2.50 or higher GPA. Gates Millennium Scholars Program

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete a degree in any major. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or national, or permanent resident with a 3.30 GPA or higher who has Pell Grant eligibility. Apply online at https://www.gmsp.org/ by mid-January. Hawthorn Foundation Scholarship Program

The Hawthorn Foundation is a Wyoming-based non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of Wyoming residents through its scholarship fund. Students must be intending to enroll full-time at an accredited institution and must submit an education plan and personal essay with application. Awards cover tuition and fees plus an allowance for books, and may also include living expenses depending on need. Apply online at www.thehawthornfoundation.org.

Helen K Maier Memorial P.E.O. Scholarship

Female students who are U.S. citizens with a high school diploma (or equivalent) and who have completed at least one full-time semester of college are eligible to apply for this $1,000 award provided by P.E.O. Chapter Z. Preference given to a single parent. Applications may be obtained from EWC’s Financial Aid Office or online at ewc.wy.edu and must be submitted to the P.E.O. Foundation by June 1. Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholarships

Marna M. Kuehne Endowed Scholarship +

This scholarship is available to Wyoming residents who are disabled veterans with a documented disability rating determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. First priority is given to veterans from Sheridan, Johnson, Campbell, Crook, or Weston counties. If no student from those counties applies or is eligible, then consideration will be given to applicants from other counties in Wyoming. Recipients must be degree-seeking at any EWC location and have a 2.50 or higher cumulative GPA. Award amounts vary according to the additions to and earnings of the endowment. North Platte Valley Artist Guild Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for high school seniors or junior college students who are residents of western Nebraska or eastern Wyoming and are planning to study art. Tri-State Generation Transmission Scholarship

Tom Lowry Memorial (Goshen County Rooster Boosters) Scholarship +

James A. and Dorothy K. Willox Trade School Scholarship *

Any student and/or resident of Converse County is eligible to apply for this need-based trade scholarship for up to $2,500 per year. Awards may be renewed annually for up to two years. Applications are available online or from EWC’s Douglas Campus and may be submitted to EWC’s Douglas Campus. No application deadline.



Wyoming National Guard Association Scholarship

Applicants must be a member of the Wyoming National Guard Association or be immediate family of a WYNGA member. Applications open January 1 and are due by March 1. Applications are available from EWC’s Financial Aid Office, online at ewc.wy.edu or from the WYNGA.

Wyoming Trucking Association Scholarship

Awards ranging from $500 to $1,500 are given by the Wyoming Trucking Association, Inc. to Wyoming high school graduates enrolled in courses of study which could lead to a career in the transportation industry, including (but not limited to), business management, accounting, office technology or computer technology. Applications are available from EWC’s Financial Aid Office or online at ewc.wy.edu and must be returned by early March; see application for details.

Wyoming Survivors of Deceased Firefighters Tuition Benefit

A surviving dependent (under age 22) of a paid or volunteer firefighter who died while acting within the scope of his duties in the service of a paid or volunteer fire department or district located in Wyoming is eligible for tuition remission for up to six semesters. Applications are available from EWC’s Financial Aid Office or online at ewc.wy.edu.

Wyrulec Trade Scholarship

Wyoming Veterinary Technician Association Scholarship

A Wyoming resident who has successfully completed one semester in an AVMA Accredited Veterinary Technology Program and is continuing as a Veterinary Technology student in an AVMA Accredited Veterinary Technology Program may apply for this scholarship. Applications are available at the EWC Financial Aid Office or online at www.wyvta.org. Application deadline is 60 days prior to the start of the semester.

TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIPS

Goshen County Beet Growers Transfer Scholarship * +

The Goshen County Beet Growers Association provides a scholarship of at least $700 ($350 a semester for one academic year) each year to a graduating EWC student with a family background in the production of any agricultural commodity who plans to transfer to a four-year college or university. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and must provide a copy of their registration, schedule and/or acceptance letter to a four-year institution. Financial need and academic performance are considered. Applications have a November 1 deadline for December graduates and April 1 deadline for May or August graduates. Apply via MyEWC.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarships

This scholarship is for top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The Foundation provides up to $40,000 per year for up to three years, making it the largest private scholarship for community college transfer students in the country. The application period is open from October to December. Up to 85 Undergraduate Transfer Scholars are selected each year. Apply online at http://www.jkcf.org/scholarship-programs/.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships The Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship provides tuition waivers to graduates of community colleges who were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Society and have maintained a 3.50 GPA or higher. Applications may be obtained from the four-year transfer university or online at http://www.ptk.org/scholarships. Other PTK scholarships are also available at this site. University of Wyoming Alumni Association Community College Transfer Scholarship

This $2,500 scholarship is paid over two years for community college transfer students planning to attend the University of Wyoming full-time at the Laramie campus. Students must have a 3.00 or higher GPA. Applications are available from EWC’s Financial Aid Office or online at ewc.wy.edu.

ACTIVITY GRANTS

Eastern Wyoming College offers several Activity Grants, allowing students to assist, participate, or perform in specific areas of the college. Activity Grants are available to high school graduates and EWC students with a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA. First-time students who do not have a high school diploma but have special ability as determined by the activity sponsor may also qualify for Activity Grants. The number of grants awarded and the value of the award varies; some cover full or partial tuition, others are for fees, books, supplies and/or on-campus room and board. Students must apply with the appropriate sponsor or coach.

Students in the following athletic activities must meet NJCAA eligibility criteria: • Golf • Men’s Basketball • Women’s Basketball • Women’s Volleyball

• Rodeo - Must meet NIRA eligibility criteria

• Livestock Judging – Must maintain eligibility to compete in any national or regional livestock judging competition with EWC and the Junior College Judging Coaches Association (JCJCA). A separate application (available online at ewc.wy.edu, from the Livestock Judging Coach or from the Financial Aid Office) is required.

Institutional Employment

Similar to the Federal Work Study program, institutional employment positions offer students part-time jobs on campus during the academic year. Student employment gives students work experience and training in preparation for future jobs. Federal Work Study and Institutional Employment positions are posted online each year beginning August 1. Students must complete the FAFSA each year for any student employment position. Check with EWC’s Financial Aid Office for additional information.

Private scholarships

Many corporations, religious organizations, membership associations and nonprofit organizations offer scholarships to employees, families, members or the general public. Some outside agencies let the Financial Aid Office know when scholarships are available to EWC students and are listed on previous pages. Check with a high school counselor, a TRiO representative, the agency or organization itself or use a scholarship search service (some safe sites are listed below) to find other private scholarship opportunities.

Veterans Benefits

EWC is approved for attendance by those who are eligible for educational benefits provided by the Veterans Administration. Veterans wishing to use their education benefits, including under the Montgomery GI Bill and 9/11 GI Bill, should contact the VA Certifying Official in the EWC Financial Aid Office at 307.532.8224. Applicants must complete the appropriate Application for VA Benefits Form available online at http://benefits.va.gov/gibill. A copy of your DD-214, member copy 4, or a copy of your NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility) letter must also be provided to the EWC VA Certifying Official.

Wyoming Educational Assistance for Veterans and Survivors

The State of Wyoming passed legislation to assist veterans, and dependents of deceased veterans, with tuition and fees at any eligible Wyoming College (Wyoming Statute 19-14-106). This program is designed to help vietnam veterans, overseas combat veterans, and surviving dependents with tuition and fee assistance.

Wyoming National Guard Educational Assistance Plan
