Wondering how you will survive the weeks surrounding
Christmas?
Are you dreading the holidays, knowing that everything has changed and that happy memories from past years can’t be recreated?
Our Surviving the Holidays seminar is especially for people who are grieving a loved one’s death. You’ll learn:• How to deal with the many emotions you’ll
face during the holidays• What to do about traditions and other coming
changes• Helpful tips for surviving social events• How to discover hope for your future
Here’s what happens at a Surviving the Holidays seminar
A Surviving the Holidays event lasts for about two hours. You’ll be welcomed by warm, caring people who understand what you are going through and who want to help. During the seminar, you will:• Watch a 40-minute video, filled with practical
holiday survival tips and the real-life stories of people who have navigated the season after their loved one’s death.
• Hear other seminar attendees explain how they are dealing with the holidays.
• Have the opportunity to share how grief is af-fecting you. (No pressure—this is optional. We want you to feel comfortable.)
• Receive a personal copy of the GriefShare Holiday Survival Guide (cost $5).
Labyrinth
Walking the labyrinth
A labyrinth is a circular design, placed on the floor,
which allows a person to walk the path to the center and
return along the same path to the beginning.
The purpose of the labyrinth is to allow people to come and find a space for prayer and
meditation with God.
Our labyrinth will be available in the Multi-Purpose Room beginning December 5th.
Come and walk the labyrinth from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays and on Sunday mornings.

Help us transform our sanctuary for the Advent Season.
This worship service features music by our various choirs and details of the meaning of the symbols used during this time of year.
The Green ProjectThe church year has various seasons and observances (Advent, Lent, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, Ordinary Time, etc.). Each season has a different color associated with it. Ordinary Time, which is the period between Easter and Advent, is the longest and uses the color green.
We are starting “The Green Project” to collect green colored fabric to create table coverings, banners,
and stoles for use during worship.
At the Hanging of the Greens Service you are asked to bring pieces of green fabric (new or slightly used in all patterns and
shades) to donate to this project.
We’ll continue to collect fabric during the Advent season and into the new year. We also need vol-unteers to help sew the fabric into various items. For more informa-tion, contact Beth Fry ([email protected]).
Join Tiffany, Christopher, and Kelsey as they explore the heirlooms found in an old trunk in their grandparents’ basement.

From the PastorWhat do these recent Oakmont happenings all have in common?
• A widow of a former ECU pro-fessor who now lives at Mc-Gregor Downs told me during the Operation Inasmuch ac-tivity in which I participated in October how much it means for her to worship each Sunday with a local Greenville congre-gation through our television ministry since she is now un-able to attend her church. That encounter was one of 34 activ-ities where nine churches and over 350 persons including Oakmonters shared the love of Christ in various ways around our community.
• Five of our children and one adult have all made recent public professions of faith in Christ and will be baptized on Sunday, January 28, 2018.
• Sixty-Nine middle school and high students, including their adult leaders, and 20 5th-6th graders and six adults had sep-arate weekend retreats grow-ing in their faith this fall. Fif-ty-two children and 18 adults from five area churches, in-
cluding 21 children from Oak-mont, spent a recent Saturday in November learning about missions here at our church.
• Four Oakmont members have died in recent months. Our church provided the facilities where we could celebrate their faith in the risen Christ and thank God for the gift of their lives.
• Two Oakmont teams that in-cluded over 20 persons—one in Nicaragua and another in Cuba – spent a week in each location being the hands, feet, voice, and heart of Christ.
• Worship services throughout Advent and Christmas—on Sunday mornings, four Sunday evening services including the Hanging of the Greens, a Chil-dren’s Musical, the Ensembles concerts, and two Christmas Eve services—will allow us to celebrate the birth of our Lord and anticipate his promised coming again.
The commonality of all these events is your generous and faith-ful giving of your time, talents, and
financial gifts that enables God’s Oakmont Idea to flourish. These examples are just a few of the ways we touched and impacted many lives through the multiplicity of our varied gifts. As we bring 2017 to a close, your church leadership is grateful for your sharing in God’s ministry at Oakmont. Giving is a spiritual habit, rooted in gratitude to God and expressed by Jesus’ sacrificial giving for us.
Many people find it meaningful during December to give gener-ously to Oakmont’s ministry as an act of gratitude to God. Use this Advent season to catch up on your financial giving, or make an addi-tional “grace gift” if you are already tithing. Please remember that all contributions must be received no later than our worship service on Sunday, December 31 or be post-marked by December 31 to be counted toward the 2017 tax year.
Thank you for all you do and mean to the Oakmont Church family. We continue to be blessed by your gen-erous hearts, and wish you a happy Advent and Merry Christmas!
