  • 1. My Evaluation Amelia Wood

2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challengeforms and conventions of real media products?I have decided to contrast some forms of I have also developed some for example Iconventions. For example, unlike this edition of though it was important to have a mast headNME, I have put all my ciover lines and titles in athat stood out from all other music magazines.C shape. This is sometimes used in music Even though NME magazine has a simplemagazines because readers eyes are mast head it is very effective so I tried to doautomatically drawn to this part of the magazine this too but it didnt work as well. I think thatwhich is why I thought it was a good idea to put this more detailed mast head works better.them in this shape. For my music magazine Idecided to stick with theconventions of a musicmagazine. Like NME magazineand all other music magazines Ihave used a main image on thecover of my magazine. Theimage is a mid shot of a bandrelating to my magazine. 3. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challengeforms and conventions of real media products? In my opinion, i think that readers like clear I also thought it was important to keep the samesimple and easy to read contents pages. Itheme going through the whole of my magazine.have challenged some forms of conventionsAs you can see the theme of purple and grey areby having a much simpler and easier to the main colours and would be used throughoutread contents page especially compares tomy magazine.this example of NME.I have also stuck with some similarconventions. As you can see, my musicmagazine and this edition of NME the layoutlooks similar. This is because i thought thatthe idea and structure of the magazine wasgood however wanted to develop it so i madeit much simpler. I think that the bandindex/band guide is an important feature on amagazine as it enables people to find theirfavourite bands easily which is why i added itto my magazine. 4. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challengeforms and conventions of real media products? There are many similarities with my thisBoth double page spreads are easy toprofessional magazine and my own. For read and are quite simple. This wasexample they both have a large title at the the look i was going for and i think ittop of the wellThe double page spread is also mainly justmade up of the interview..All the images on these doubleBig images have also been used that cover pages have been edited.most of one page 5. 2. How does your media productrepresent particular social groups? My magazine represents particular social groups in many different ways. The social groups I wanted to represent are indie young people. I havetried to representt hem buy the fashion that i have used in my magazine. Ithink that it was important to use fashion in my magazine, that is what thesocial groups that i wanted to represent like, because they will see it isfamiliar to them so they are more likely to buy the magazine. The style ofclothing and fashion in a music magazine is very recognisable to peoplewho listen to that kind of music. This will also be to their point of interestso are more likely to want to buy it. 6. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product andwhy?I think that IPC would distribute my magazine because it has a lot of experience with awide range of magazines. NME is a magazine that I think is similar to Indi-go as they bothhave indie aspects to them. NME magazine is published by IPC which is why I think IPCwould distribute Indi-go. IPC has also had experience with magazines such as WomansWeekly and Womans Own which as the names suggest are aimed at women which isuseful as even though my magazine isnt specifically targeted at women or girls it has alighter and feminine feel to it than other indie magazines such as NME which makes itmore unique. Because my magazine is more unique, this would encourage and maybepersuade IPC to want to publish my magazine. Bauer is also a media institution that I thinkwould be interested in publishing my magazine. This is because, like IPC, it has had a lotof experience with different magazines and genres of music magazines. 7. 4. Who would the audience be for your media product?I think that the audience for my magazine has changed from before i startedmaking my magazine. The audience used to be young people of anygender however throughout making my magazine i have thought it was abetter idea to create my magazine aiming it towards females. There are twomain reasons why i did this. Firstly i thought it would be easier as i am a girlso i would know what girls like me would want but mainly because i haventfound an indie magazine that is targeted more at girls than boys. I think thatthe name Indi-go is more of a feminine name. It is also targeted for youngpeople which has been done well because i am a young person and this iswhat i would want from a music magazine. 8. 5. How did you attract/address youraudience? As i have explained, i thought it was very important to use models that areyoung people if i wanted them to be the audience. Another way i have triedto attract my audience is with the content in my magazine. The cover linesthat are used for example ROMA rumours revealed are attractive toyoung people because of the informal and colloquial style it has beenwritten. The bands that i have included in my magazine will also attract myaudience because they are the bands that my audience are interested inso will be more likely to buy the magazine if they can see that there is partsof the magazine with them included 9. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?I first started off by I then added a header I then found a barcode I then put the finishingtaking original images to my front cover byonline and added tocoverlines on to theand I decided to cut my clicking on the my cover. This makecover and mademodels out so that Icould use my own rectangle shape and the magazine lookeverything look rightbackground. I did this drawing a box. I then more professional. I and in using the extract added text by using then added coverlinestool. I decided to touch the text using the text toolup my images using the again. I added differentpolygon lasso tool styles to it such awhich made my imageslook better around the stroke to make it lookedges. better 10. I thought that it was a good idea tohave a masthead that stood out. Ireally like this font for mymasthead as i think it stands outand fits in the genre and style iwanted for my magazine.I added lots of effects to my masthead asyou can see above. Drop shadow, innershadow etc have all been used to makemy masthead stand out. 11. 7. Looking back at your preliminarytask, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? When I look back at my preliminary task, there are many things I think Ihave learnt. Doing the preliminary task enabled me to learn all about thedifferent tools that photoshop and indesign have to offer to create aprofessional looking magazine. Because i did the preliminary task andlearnt all about these two programs I was then able to create my finalmusic magazine easier and quicker. If I hadnt done the preliminary taskthen it would take much longer to create the final product because I wouldbe trying to figure out the two programs. 12. 7. Looking back at your preliminarytask, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? In the progression i have also learnt: That the rule of thirds is importantThat it is important to keep the same when trying to attract my targetstyle throughout the magazine to keep it audience.looking professional. How to address different targetHow music magazines are structuredaudience and understanding thatand especially double page spreadsdifferent social groups prefer and wantas I didnt know much about themdifferent styles and features from amusic magazine. How to use the polygon lasso tool All about the music magazinewhich was very useful when cutting industry such as publishing forout my images to place them on example all about IPC and howdifferent backgrounds. important they are to magazine companies.
