Future outlook for Latin America wind power
• Latin America is expected to reach 46 GW of total installed wind capacity by 2025
• Latin America’s annual growth rate in wind power is 12.6%
• Brazil will have 31.6 GW installed by 2025
• Mexico will have 6.6 GW installed by 2025
• Argentina will have 4 GW installed by 2025
• Total investment in Latin America wind turbine markets will scale from 1 Billion USD in 2009 to more than 2.2 Billion USD by 2015
• According to studies, European players will dominate the market in the near term, but local players will challenge them from 2015
• There is potential short term potential for Finnish wind turbine manufacturers and long-term potential also for component manufacturers
• Brazil demands more than 300 turbines annually starting in 2011

Waste sector trends in Latin America
• The governments promote plans for waste management and public/private partnerships in the waste sector
• Increasing number of biogas plants; waste to energy plants; integral waste management plants
• Decreasing number of informal landfills
• There are several CDM projects in waste sector in Latin America
• Example Colombia from 2006 to 2008:
• Number of landfills grew from 195 to 254
• Integrated waste management centers from 34 to 59
• Unofficial landfills decreased from 46 to 19
• There is potential for Finnish companies in waste transportation, recycling, waste management, biogas and energy generation
Water sector
• Latin America is investing much in waste water treatment in the following years (actual waste water treatment levels are 30%-60% and the targets for 2012 are 60%-100%)
• Energy generation out of wastewater sludge is being developed in several cities
• Mexico and Finland will be signing a MoU in the water sector this year
• There is potential for Finnish companies in small waste water treatment plants, piping, biogas and energy generation, meteorological systems, measuring systems, waste water treatment technology, consulting
Offshore & oil sector in Latin America
Petrobras investments
55 BUSD/year
PEMEX investments
25 BUSD/yearEcopetrol
investments 8,5 BUSD/year
Oil sectorinvestments 2 BUSD/year
Oil sectorinvestment
s 2 BUSD/year
• There is potential for Finnish companies in offshore solutions, security system, measuring systems, consulting
Refinary projects in Mexico & Peru
Up-coming oil refinary tender:• PEMEX will be building a mega refinary that will be processing 161,000 daily
barrels of petroleum and 125,000 of diesel. • The complex comprises 17 factories and 840 km of piping
Up-coming petrochemical refinary:• Petroperu is evaluating a petrochemical refinary of 2 Billion USD• Petroperu will be upgrading old refinary with 1,3 Billion USD
Up-coming bio jet fuel project:• Mexico will need annually 40 Million litres of bio jet fuel in 2015 and 700
Million litres by 2020• A demostration flight with bio jet fuel out of jatropha was made 4.4.2011• There is an on-going evaluation project of the possible players for
establishing a refinary in Mexico
• Opportunities for Finnish oil companies, pumps,
ventiles, insulation, heat exchangers
CDM projects
• Top countries for CDM registrations in the world are: China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Malaysia
• Chile, Mexico, Brazil and Peru are the most prominent investment climates in Larin America for CDM projects
• Potential for Finnish consulting companies and technology providers
