Oral Revision Courses: Higher and Advanced Higher French - February 2015

As in previous years, the Alliance Française de Glasgow will be running Higher and Advanced Higher

Oral Preparation courses for pupils who will be sitting their French oral examinations in 2015.

Sessions will take place on Fridays during February between 4-6 pm.

Parentzone Scotland website

Parentzone Scotland is a new website to help parents and carers support their child's learning. The

content on our previous Parentzone website has been reviewed, developed and updated. The website

includes a new My School section with contact details for every primary, secondary and special school

in Scotland. There are also new materials on supporting learning at home. Please tell parents and

carers about Parentzone Scotland.

Student news site The Tab.

The Tab have recently put together a range of university guides aimed at 16-18 year-olds who are

looking at doing an undergraduate degree, and we have been asked to share these guides with our

pupils.

Unlike other university guides and prospectuses, ours are written by current students, ensuring they

give the reader a balanced, honest, and informed view of what life at that university is really like.

Yes, your pupils can utilise university league tables to help them make their decision, but these can

often be confusing and contradict each other. We provide the information they need to know, in a

clear and straight-forward manner. Whether it's what courses each university is good for, or what

the town or city is like to live in, we have the answers.

We're hopeful that our ever-expanding range of guides can stop teenagers from having to rely

merely on official prospectuses and open days when making the most important decision of their

life.

'The Bothy Boy’ details the life and musical career of Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, a

guitar player, singer, composer, arranger, producer and a member of the most

influential traditional Irish group of all time, The Bothy Band.

The programme includes interviews with Dónal Lunny, Paddy Glackin, Matt Molloy,

Paddy Keenan, Kevin Burke, Maighréad and Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, among others.

Gaels le Chèile @ Ceòl 's Craic

In collaboration with Gaels le Chèile and Celtic Connections our first event of

2015 is a celebration of the cultural connections between the Gaels of

Scotland and Ireland.

7.45pm: Donegal born Lorraine McCauley is an exciting new singer songwriter on

the contemporary Scottish folk scene. Along with her band The Borderlands she

has arranged some traditional and modern Irish Gaelic songs especially for this

show.

8.30pm: Noeleen Ní Cholla is a prize winning sean-nós singer from the

Gaeltacht area of Gaoth Dobhair who includes Scottish Gaelic songs in her

repertoire.

9.30pm: Maeve Mackinnon and Gráinne Holland are award-winning Gaelic singers

hailing from Scotland and Ireland. They are joined at Celtic Connections by two

very special guests. Donal O’Connor (fiddle) is a founder member of Irish band

At First Light. Ross Martin (guitar) is a cornerstone of Scottish supergroup

Dàimh.

These four musicians come together for a very special night showcasing music

from both Grainne and Maeve’s solo material as well as previewing a very special

project in the pipeline. Not to be missed.
