o LIVES IN THE BEST SECTION OF TOWN
(just downstream from Doolittle's septic tank)
0 PARAGON OF VIRTUE
(the child molestation charges were dropped)
He was raised under the shadow of Eddie de Bartlolo in Youngstown, Ohio. Heclaims Eddie "lived in the rich section of town" but anyone who has been to Ohioknows there aren't any rich sections. He always liked working with his hands andwanted to be a sculptor so off he went to Ohio State to pursue his life's work.
Became an Air Force officer (captain no less) and his leadership skills were so keenthey sent him first to the top of a mountain and then to a sleepy seacost village tominimize his damage to the morale of theenlisted men (no women where he was!)
Mel his lovely wife on a blind date (she was blind) while he was teaching atU.O.P. She shares his passion for travel, tolerates his photography and tries toignore his affairs (with fast red cars).

THE SANTA ROSA KAGOSHIMASTUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary and Friends of Kagoshima is our own studentexchange program. Twelve students from Japan will be here for two weeks;July 29-August 13. We need your support to make their homestay a trulypositive experience.
In 1987, the Santa Rosa-Kagoshima Student Exchange Program wasfounded as a joint venture of Friends of Kagoshima and the Santa Rosa SunriseRotary Club. The purpose of SRKSEP is to send exchange students to Japan andto host exchange students from Japan in order to improve the culturalunderstanding of our young people and to broaden their horizons. The programsends students to Japan one year and the following year receives students fromJapan.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
In April. 1865, fifteen young students left Kagoshima, Japan, to travelabroad and learn Western ways. After spending some time being educated inGreat Britain and Europe, these students returned to Japan and became thedriving force behind Japan's modernization.
One of these students. Kanaye Nagasawa, did not return to Japan andeventually came to Santa Rosa, where he was the builder of the Round Barn andowner of the Fountain Grove Winery. This is the historical link betweenKagoshima, Japan, and Santa Rosa.
Now, more than fifty years after Nagasawa's death, we are sendingstudents to Japan to learn Japanese ways and this year, they are sendingstudents to Santa Rosa. We hope this cultural exchange will inspire manylifelong friendships and strengthen the bonds of world peace.

MYSTERY ROTABIAN
by Russ Lockner
POVERTY, OBEDIENCE, AND CHASTITY
He "had a vision" and joined the seminary to follow the path. He took his vowsand lived the life of a "pre-prelate" for seven years. He was not ordained, however(He told the father that "two out of three ain't bad" but he just couidn't get the hangof :liat chastity thing).
The vow of proverty did come naturally to him. He bagan his varied vocationalcareer by "pearl-diving" foi 85 cents an hour. (His accountant claims dial's morethan he made last year in his business).
He left Detroit (doesn't everyone?) and went to Chicago to teach history at aprivate school, he also taught in Stockton and Bishop O'Dowd in Oakland.Somewhere during this time he also tried marriage (why not - he was tryingeverything else).
Continuing with his religious calling, he went to work at the Fairmont Hotel (???? )and continued in the iodging industry until he came to Santa Rosa to open his ownbusiness.
He likes to travel, read (light trash is best), and loves politics (claims there aretooooo many skeletons in his closet to try this as a career).
Rumor has it he recently bought an earring from Bayless-who is he???

"Myself" by Edgar Albert
/ have to live with myself, and so,i want to be fit for myself to know;
I want to be able as days go byAlways to look myself straight in the eye;I don't want to stand with the setting sunAnd hate myself for the things I've done.
I don't want to keep on a closet shelfA lot of secrets about myself.
And fool myself as I come and goInto thinking that nobody else will know
The kind of a man I really am;I don't want to dress myself up in sham.
I want to go out with my head erect,I want to deserve all men's respect;
But here in the struggle for fame and pelf,I want to be able to like myself.
I don't want to think as I come and goThat I'm bluster and bluff and empty show.
I never can hide myself from me,I see what others may never see,
I know what others may never know,I never can fool myself--and so.Whatever happens, I want to be
Self-respecting and conscience free.

RECOG ION CORNER...
STEVE HERRON was presented his prestigious Blue Badge by Art King.In keeping with the new tradition. President Dan sentenced Steve to $20.Congratulations Steve!
Lost anything lately? Don't admit it! Prez Dan is charging a finder's feeof $5 per item. Poor DALE ZUMFELDE had lo pay for his award (Didn'the pay enough by having to do the bulletin?) DEL RABY for losing hisnew uniform, and NANCY AJTA for herPastPresident badge. (Doyouthink Nancy should have been charged for each marble she lost?)
Speaking of NANCY ATTA, she was accused of sniveling when PresidentDan asked her to complete her awards presentation. Nancy said she wasunprepared and that cost her another $5!
GARY BAYLBSS to celebrate LYNDA's birthday by dressing her in theClub's new uniform and sharing two cases of lobsters in New Hampshire.$15. Gary also confessed to having a great 4th ofJuly on the top of Pike'sPeak (Colorado). The race to the top of the hill cost him another $15.
KEN COKER celebrating a birthday on August 3. When President Danasked him what hewas planning to do, KEN said he was going to be late . . .AGAIN. He too, will be sporting our Club's new colors. $15.
DAN LAMBERT fessed up to taking a trip to NYto visit family and that hewill be claiming oneless dependent this year. Through the JET program, hislovely daughter will be on herway to Japan to bean English teacher. Daneagerly contributed $50 to Kay's Paul Harris.
ART KING announced he has assumed the role of managing partner in theSanta Rosa division of his firm. The only thing he's been asked to manage ismore responsibility and work. $20.
JOHN DOLINSEK took a pre-vacation to his vacation in Mexico. I guess ittakes him longer to unwind than it does his wife. $20.
LEROY CARLENZOLI and GARY JENSEN spent 12 days furniture dredging(fishing) in Alaska. After bundling up theirabundant catch, they promptly left iton the boat! Coming back empty handed cost Leroy $15 and Gary $20.
SUNSHINE REPORTOur Club's deepest sympathies go to Russ Lockner for the loss of his mother, Mary.
MYSTERY ROTARIANby Russ Lockner
o Looks like Tommy LaSorda
o More money than Kent Seegmiller and Mike Sasscombined
o Better golfer than Nancie Mika
Born in Fontana (home of all the smog in Southern California), hewent to Loma Linda University on a table tennis scholarship. Aftergraduation he couldn't find a job so went on to grad school. Stillcouldn't find a job so began teaching. Found a part time job inBarstow (this guy really knows how to pick the garden spots!)Said to himself, "Self, Barstow ain't bad but let's try Texas."Guess what? A new teaching position at the University of Texas.
Met a lovely girl in a pasta cooking class and she said she wouldmarry him on one condition: he do all the cooking. They begancoming to Sonoma County for vacations and wine drinking andeventually moved here in the early 80's.
He has a semi-doctorate in BBQ cooking, can make anything yousee on the cooking shows on TV and claims to be better than Otiswith chocolate-chip cookies. His office staff is terrified of him ashe's such a hard driving perfectionist. We know him better as alovable softie who's real joy is his 4 year old daughter.
After 12 years of therapy , mypsychiatrist said something thatbrought tears to my eyes. He said,"No hablo ingles."
