Gathering #612 “In This Very Room”

Welcome, Announcements and Opening Prayer Mary Menzies

    Prelude

Responsive Reading from Psalm 139 One: God, you have searched me and known me; you know when I sit down and when I rise; you discern my thoughts from far away. All: You guard my path; you guard my sleep; you watch over all my ways. One: It was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. All: I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made! One: My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. One: Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. All my days were written in your book when none of them existed. One: How weighty for me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! All: I try to count them—they are more than the sand; I come to the end—I am still with you. One: Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. All: See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

*Hymn #682 “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” Confession: Kind and generous Friend, you nourish us with your abundant goodness, but we don’t trust you. Our world is so often full of violence and rage. We want to feel safe, so we try our best to take control of everything around us. Full of anger and sorrow, suspicion and fear, we do not abide in your generous love. We harden our hearts against you and our neighbors and injure the world you came to save. And still you offer us forgiveness, and still you invite us to return and abide in you, one body, blessed with all the diverse and precious gifts we will ever need. And so, kind and generous Friend, as we come to your table of blessing today, we ask you to welcome our humble hearts and restore us to fruitful lives; for we pray in the fullness of your precious love.
