First Congregational
United Church of Christ
Fourteen Grand Blanc families received food baskets and had a brighter Christmas because of your generosity.
Our Sock/Coat drive yielded 36 pairs of socks, 4 coats and 2 blankets. Our Mitten Tree was decorated with 12 scarves, 3 hat/scarf/mitten sets, 37 hats, 12 hat/
mitten sets, and 47 gloves & mittens. All of these items were delivered to Catholic Charities for distribution at the North End Soup Kitchen and the Center of Hope.
Many people will be warmer this winter because of you.
Thank you for all your help in serving God through these ministries.

“Our Mission is to enable disciples to change the world to the glory of
God by living the teachings of
Jesus our Christ.”
Dear Friends In Christ, After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. Matthew 2:1-3
"Hope and Trouble"
Now for the rest of the story! We’ve celebrated the birth of Jesus but were it not for Matthew’s gospel, we wouldn’t know how close on the heels of Jesus’ nativity does trouble appear.
In a few days we enter the season of Epiphany - the realization of the presence of God to all people, both Gentile and Jew, as marked by the visit of the magi to the infant Jesus and his parents. Traditionally, we’ve sort of run the story together by having the “wise men” appear at the stable. That’s not how Matthew, the only gospel to record the event, recounts what happened.
A period of time has passed from when an astronomical event prompts three foreign observers to travel to Judea in order to see the one whose birth was marked in the heavens. King Herod’s response confirms this. When Herod’s scheming is undone by the magi, he orders the death of any male born in the region for the last two years. Rachel and parents everywhere are weeping, indeed!
Perhaps you've just ended a year of struggle and are looking for easier days ahead. Perhaps your new year is off to a rocky start. Be comforted in knowing that struggle does not overpower hope nor does evil get the best of God’s good news. Re-read the previous sentence again and take it in, letting it sink into your psyche and your soul.
As we enter this new year, remember, hope is closer than it may appear. Live with courage and keep moving forward. Make a positive difference in this world by being a person of hope and encouragement for others. My personal epiphany is that God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God!
Prayer
Holy One, thank you for being the God who is with us - incarnate in Jesus and present now through the gift of your Spirit. Remind us of your presence when we are too troubled to see the hope that is near. Amen.

Children’s Christmas Program “A Charlie Brown Christmas”
On December 22, 2019, the children performed their Christmas program.
Thank you to everyone involved in putting this production together, especially our young actors/singers/dancers! Great job!
2020 FLOWER CHART
Dates are now available in next year’s Flower Chart starting with January 12th. Purchasing flowers to
decorate the sanctuary is a wonderful way to praise God,
honor someone, commemorate a special event, donate in memory of a
loved one, or just because. Cost is $20.00.
The chart is located near the
Welcome Center.
The Ladies’
Luncheon is
Tuesday, January
14th at 1pm.
We will meet at The Meeting Place,
3600 Owen Road in Fenton
(1st building west of Panera’s).
Please RSVP with
Barb Benson (810) 694-1867 or
Anne Stableford (810) 694-8045.
Bring with you your resolutions and/or
wishes for 2020.
All the ladies of the church and their
friends are welcome!
Help is needed to take down the Christmas
Decorations after the First of the year. We will
pack up the decorations at 9am on Monday,
January 6th. We welcome anyone willing and
available to help. Contact Kay Gibson for more
information. Thank you!
CANS FOR CHRIST ** The Outreach Team is collect-ing canned food items to restock our food pantry.
(The Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets depleted our supply). Look for the grocery cart outside the sanctuary! Bring in cans of pasta, fruit, soup, vegetables, beans, etc. Boxed food items will also be appreciated. Thank you, as always, for your generous support!
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts & prayers during our hard times. It’s not over yet, but I’m told it won’t be long. We’re anxious to
come back to church. Until then, please have a Happy Holiday! Our thoughts are with all of you. Love, George & Jeanette Adams

*** YOUTH NEWS ****** YOUTH NEWS *** What a wonderful holiday season as we celebrated with all the youth. The Elementary kids joined with The Learning House kids for a night of fun and pizza; the Senior High shared dinner out and frosting cookies with our friends at Grand Blanc Fields; and our Middle High caroled at Grand Blanc Fields too. The Middle High also celebrated with a trip to Davison Escape Games and were energized with the excitement during this event.
Thank you so much for the caring from so many during my illness - the email from Kasie and the choir - you are all so special to me!
Thanks to Tracy and 3 young people who surprised me Sunday afternoon with a poinsettia.
Merry Christmas to all, Joey Wilcox
