“Serving from the Heart”“Hey… are you busy?” Have you ever heard that and thought “Seriously, I am swamped!”
But, the busyness of the day and being fulfilled are two different things. God’s plan for each of us is to play a vital role in His community. God wants us to find joy when we serve.
Wednesday nights are “busy” nights…. some have homework, practices, work late, or just want a night at home, but First Church encourages you to come and sit and learn from six lay leaders in our church about discovering the vital role you play in our community. At the end of this six week class, we want you to feel confident in finding your place to “Serve from the Heart.”

Note of Appreciation
Many thanks to Bettie Betterman for five years of service to the church. Bettie has faithfully made phone calls as reminders to greeters, security team members, and acolytes.
Our Summer Gifts to Godby Lisa Hurd, Finance Committee Chair
When people go on vacation, their giving often does, too. Most churches experience a summer shortfall in giving as people travel for summer fun. One solution might be to try either online giving or automatic withdrawal. You can call the church or go jacksonfumc.org if you have questions about either of these plans.
While we are in good financial standing at this point, the Finance Committee developed a budget that should find us in good standing at the conclusion of the year, as well as leaving room for the "what ifs" that tend to happen. Since conference expenses have not been finalized at this point, we can use an accurate comparison of our financial standing through the end of May 2015. Our overall net revenue was approximately $40,000 over our goal, and net expenses for the same time frame were approximately $27,000 better than the goal . This placed us approximately $68,000 better than our goal for this year.
Does this mean we are "rich"? No. This means that, if we maintain our giving, we will be in a better position to maintain our facilities, and of most importance, we will be in a better position that will allow us to support God's missions! With lower summer tithes and offerings, this could change very quickly.
Do You Take Your Tithe on Vacation?by Lisa Hurd, Finance Committee Chair
Don't get me wrong! Getaways and vacations are good...in fact, I think they are wonderful! People need to experience a summertime change of scenery...they need to have a time of relaxation and recreation.
But, how many of us use our summer tithe to pay the bills for those extra special trips? (Yes, I hear you saying, "But I'm going to lose my mind if I don't get away!")
A few points to remember as you make your plans for the remainder of the summer: 1) The tithe belongs to God...not us. 2) The tithe recognizes our debt
to God — and we owe God everything.
So, you make the choice. Are you planning to give Mickey Mouse your tithe this summer?
