Growth Tracks “Next Steps”
Growth Tracks is our “Next Steps” to help you discover not just who we
are as a church but how you can grow personally in your relationship
with Jesus Christ, discover your spiritual gifts and find your place to
serve in First Baptist Church. We meet on Sunday mornings and we
would love for you to join us. See you at 10:30AM on Sunday, in
Room 209 upstairs for the Next Step!
May 1 Step 1 Know God May 8 Step 2 Find Freedom
May 15 Step 3 Discover Purpose May 22 Step 4 Make a Difference
Mother’s Day is May 8th!
I am having a hard time believing that April is almost over. It seems like it has gone by extremely quick. Before I enter the month of May, there are some things I would like to share with you that occurred in April.
The month of April began while I was in Romania serving with a team from First Baptist Church. I have gone there many times and what made this mission trip special for me was the intense presence I felt of the Holy Spirit. I always enjoy spending time with the eight girls from Casa Josef. These are the eight orphans that I find great joy in speaking life into their lives and reminding them of their value. Through a gift of someone in our church community, we were able to take the eight girls on a shopping spree in the “big city” mall. We stayed overnight in a hotel that had hot thermal pools a lot like Thermopolis. I was hanging out with the girls in one of the pools and we noticed an area for VIP’s. The VIP signs seem to express that this area is closed to just anybody. I encouraged the eight girls to go with me into this area to which they said they didn’t belong there. I responded to their self-denunciation with these words. You are VIP’s to me! They smiled and stayed in the same place. I find it incredibly special to speak words of life into their lives and I value those opportunities to go to Romania.
I also enjoyed spending time working with Dr. Kent Neubert and the dental team. I have never had the privilege to serve in this way before and work alongside Kent. (and it was work!) I found my place in valuing the gypsies waiting to be seen by Kent. Although I can’t speak Romanian nor Gypsy, I enjoyed communicating they were special as I tried to learn each of their names instead of just the numbers we gave them to create a sense of order. I loved speaking to the Gypsies in a way that said you have worth. You have value.
Then shortly after this trip, I went to the International Justice Mission, Global Prayer Gathering in Washington DC along with seven others from our church. That was an amazing experience as I saw a hole in my own understanding of the gospel I have been preaching for so long. I saw through stories the vast array of pain and suffering and the need to help people out of their slavery and bring freedom into their lives. I know that is the heart of God for each of us as we discover to know God spiritually and mentally and also find freedom. I now can see that this is also the call for those in physical slavery who need to be physically free from the enslavement of others. On this trip, I felt that life was spoken into my life.
April has come and is almost gone and the lessons God showed me will continue to shape me and for that I am grateful to you for supporting these trips as well as allowing me to be your pastor and hopefully speak life into your life.

Sermon Notes on our APP
We are introducing a new component
of our church APP that we are excited
to share with you.
In addition to the ability to request
prayer and receive key notifications
from us, we are also including the
ability to have on your phone the
church sermon notes.
On Sunday morning you can open up
the church App, go to sermon notes
and follow along. At this point, the
sermon notes will only stay on the app
until the next Sunday.
Hope you find this helpful!
THE GIVING TABLE
You may have noticed the addition of a table in the middle of the room during the Bridge. Between services this table will have an assortment of items and we are simply wanting to give them to you. If all goes to plan, you will soon see an increase in items on this table. If you want to bring a recyclable bag to church even better! So help yourself to whatever is there because it is there to help you.

With summer coming and school being out that means
more time with your family! We have three super awe-
some family events planned this summer to give you even
more opportunities to make memories together.
We'll kick things off with an “out of school blast” - how does a carnival
sound?! I hope it gets you excited as this will be the first summer event.
It will be at 3:00pm on Sunday June 12th at the church. Anybody else
think “dunk an elder” sounds awesome? We might have to sweet talk
them but for the low, low price of one food item, that we will donate to
Food For Thought, we can make this and other games happen. :) I will
be looking for some help building and running the games.
Make sure to mark your calendars not only for this exciting event, but
also for the other two on July 10th and August 14th. Watch next month’s
newsletter for more details. We not only want to serve our church family,
but our community as well as these are great outreach opportunities! So
be sure to invite your friends, neighbors or even the strangers in the
grocery store!
The last Wednesday night children's programming for this school year is May 18th.

Summer is quickly approaching and so are some significant events in the lives of our young people:
On May 15th we will honor our graduating high school seniors during The Bridge (between services).
This is an exciting time for them and their families; therefore, we want to give you an opportunity to let
them know that they are loved and we are proud of them. Please join us on that day to celebrate their
accomplishments and hard work.
Our current fifth graders will also be graduating from elementary school, and on June 12th they will
"graduate" into the youth group. I will visit with them during children's church on June 5th, and we will
celebrate "Transition Day" the following week.
In addition to Transition Day, we will also begin having Sunday morning youth activities on June 12th.
Our desire is that the youth worship with the church family at the 8:30 service and then head upstairs
to my office during 2nd service. During the remainder of June, Taylor Schwahn and I will lead the
youth through the Growth Tracks. Once those are completed, we will begin a discussion format
around Pastor John's sermons and how those can be applied to our lives.
Parents, if you were unable to attend the youth/parent meeting on April 30th, please call the church
office (234-6946) with your contact information, or send me an email. I would love to touch base with
you and fill you in on some important information about youth group in
general and some upcoming events. I look forward to talking with you!
