Hello again ladies,  First, I”d like to thank Sue Jones for volunteering to be secretary. Also thank you to Janet Yandrisevits for volunteering to be the Sunshine and Shadows starting In the fall.  Thank you to everyone who filled in for the vacancies.

A few things that require your attention for this month:1.  Registration is due for entering quilts in our Quilt Show.  As I said at the meeting, do not think your quilt is not good enough. What makes a quilt “good enough” isn’t the perfect points or perfect color combination but the love you put into each quilt. Email Lois or bring your registration forms to the meeting.2. Orders are being taken for guild apparel ONLY at the March meeting. Payment is required with order. Cash and checks accepted.  See me at the meeting and I’ll direct you to the person taking orders.

Hope to see you at the meeting.

From your VP, Kathy Miller: Please help me make our new members feel welcome and at home. There is still no waiting list for guild membership, so if you know anyone who would like to join, this is a good time. Dues at this point at $12.50 (1/2 year) and should be submitted along with a completed membership form to CQG, Kathy Miller,

2197 George Lane, Bath, PA 18014.

There is lots of news about the quilt show in this issue. Please check out pages 5, 6, and 7 for all the news that’s fit to sew!

GUEST POLICY - A guest may attend two meetings per guild year and the guest fee is $5.

REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR NAME BADGE TO THE MEETING! Otherwise you will need to “Feed the Pig” ($.50)

Minutes: Colonial Quilters Guild General Meeting February 11, 2019

-Cindy F. opened the meeting at 7:05pm. -Cindy made a request for someone to take over the secretary position. Someone is needed NOW. The position is for the remainder of this term and will go through June 2021. We are still also in need of positions of VP and Treasurer. Cindy will have to create a nominating committee. -Treasurer’s report: opening balance $$7098.91, closing balance $6148.03 The room and custodian fees are paid through the end of the guild year. -Wendy B. filled in for the secretary. There were 57 in attendance. 2 guests: Sue Lynah and Ann Shnakar. Kathy Kemmerer won the door prize. -Betsy asked everyone to sign up for a minimum of 4 hours to work at the quilt show. White glove and cafe are standing jobs but all the rest are sit-down, except for the setting up and taking down of the quilts. Deb discussed the raffle quilt and places that it can be displayed to sell tickets, e.g. the fiber festival, -Lois discussed the need for quilts. She has a total of about 90; aiming for at least 150. Next month is the last date to bring in the registration forms. Be sure to include workshop projects and challenge quilts. -Cindy says “Everybody’s quilt is good enough to be in the show!” -Lisa Z. talked about needs for the cafe, especially snack-type treats, water, and money for extras. -Steph Ruppert-Oblas informed us what she needs for items for the quilt show displays. This show includes military because of the charity chosen. Things should be brought to the show on Friday, picked up on Monday; put your name on what you bring. -Darlene R.: During the show there will be an area for community sewing. There will be pillowcase kits ready to go for sewers to work on. -Nancy S. talked about the boutique; she needs donations and she gave some ideas. Be sure to get your vendor number. Credit cards will be taken this year. Idea from Betsy: a way to use the stars we made for the last quilt show, e.g. garlands, to move those out of storage. -Carol M. brought fliers and postcards; take some and hang them places. Take them to retreats, etc. (all the guilds and shops already have them). -We will sell guild t-shirts for those folks who want them; encourage wearing at the show. About 1-2 dozen folks would like them ordered. -Susan T.: At the Feb. 22 charity sewing day, we will be making tumbler quilts from the 5” blocks. Bring sewing machine, lunch; coffee and water and snacks supplied. You can come to just trim blocks also. -No report from Sunshine and Shadows but the position will need to be filled with a new person as of the end of June. -Library: the 50-50 ($28.25) was won by Judith Smullen. -Charlene W. said she needs more donations to the fat-quarter bucket! Quality fabric only. -Carol M.: There is a place on the website for new names for long-arm quilters. Also let her know if anything on the website is wrong or out-of-date. -Program: On Saturday 2/1 folks played with the squares. We could do another day on March 1 or 7. If you did the mystery quilt block 1, give it to Beth S. and you will get the 2nd block. -Cindy talked about the new program that has been booked for the March meeting. The quilter does “gems” and work by Judy Neimeyer. Details will follow in the March newsletter. Vicki P. spoke about plans in the pipeline for the 2020-2021 quilt year. In Nov. a speaker would perhaps do new techniques from old magazines. Perhaps there will be workshops, maybe in the summer. —Cindy again talked about the positions open that need to be filled. Sue Jones volunteered to fill the secretary position. Dolores Danner, Kathy Kemmerer and Darlene Repash will be the nominating committee to find a VP and a Treasurer. The meeting closed at 7:46. Submitted by Nancy Weston, substitute Secretary

FROM HOSPITALITY: Please remember that hospitality needs cleanup help each meeting. If it is your turn to bring snack, cleanup is part of the job. And everyone, if you clean up your area, that would be great!

3/10 Meeting: CHANGE OF PROGRAM: “My Thread Painting Journey.” Kelly Anne Freeman has been sewing, quilting and creating for over 15 years. She’s explored many styles of quilting in that time with a focus on thread painting and creating art quilts. In our meeting Kelly Anne Freeman will share how she accidentally “discovered” thread painting while trying to use her sewing machine needle as a pencil. This trunk show follows along her journey learning thread-painting techniques and creating original art quilts. When fellow quilters started asking “How’d you do that?” Kelly was happy to share. She has been sharing her style of thread painting through classes and lectures for many years. Kelly also loves to teach students all about techniques, tricks and embellishments, so they can add those “wow” factor elements to their own quilt creations. You’ll hear about the struggles and problems she encountered and the solutions she found along the way. Kelly will also share the techniques she’s borrowed from traditional quilting and garment making to help create that “wow” factor in art quilts. And since we all need a little self-care in our sewing rooms, Kelly will share her top tips for reducing the pains and strains that are all too common after sewing for hours (these are the same tips she’s been sharing with clients in her 15 plus years working in the health and wellness industry).

Our quilt show, to be held May 2 & 3, 2020 at the Charles Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township, is our major fund raiser for the guild and our charity of choice. Pat Christ will be the featured speaker at the show, with a presentation on quilts with eagles and stars. The quilt challenge for the show will be “Polka Dot Party” organized by Susan Truby. “Salute to Feathered

Stars” is the 2020 raffle quilt and was made by Darlene Repash and Richele Voice. Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council was selected as our charity by the guild members; our funds will be directed to the local chapter of Blue Star Mothers. “The Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council (LVMAC) formed an association in 2003 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, community-service organization of organizations to support the Lehigh Valley’s active and reserve component military service members, its veterans, and their families because they have made sacrifices for our nation.” http://www.lv-mac.org.

Please put money or check made out to Colonial Quilters Guild in an envelope with your name on outside. You should have 24 tickets to sell. You can pick up extras at meeting from Deb Shupe or email at [email protected]

From Nancy Snow: BOUTIQUE - CALLING ALL VENDORS Yes, it's all of you!!  I hope you are crafting items to sell in our Boutique -- this is an easy way to sell your items.  Guild commission is 15%, so price items accordingly.   See Nancy Snow for a registration form & your vendor number or email [email protected] and download the form from our guild website.  I'm accepting donations of items, where the guild will get 100% of the price - think about making a couple extra items for the guild or cleaning out some unfinished projects.  Don't let this list of suggestions limit your imagination -- we

POLKA-DOT PARTY QUILT CHALLENGE

America has had a long love affair with polka dots. Who doesn’t love Minnie Mouse with her polka-dot dress and matching bow, Marilyn Monroe and her polka-dot bikini? More recently Quilter Freddy Moran is famous for her exuberant use of polka dots in her quilts . This Challenge invites you to do something a little different, expand your use of color and use polka-dot fabrics in ways you never did before.  Polka dots are fun, colorful and sure to make you smile. The rules are simple: 1.  Submissions can be quilts, wallhangings, clothing or items that have been stitched using polka-dot fabric.  2. Must be at least 30% polka dot fabric. There is no size limitation. LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER YOUR PROJECT IS MARCH 10!

From Betsy: We are looking for donations for door prizes. Right now we have about 25 and it would be nice to have a few more. So if you have any like-new items that you would like to donate, please bring them to the guild meetings at your convenience. Who knows, you may find that you have duplicate rulers, patterns you thought would be nice to make that special quilt and never used or some fat quarters that no longer appeal to your taste. Any donations not used for door prizes will be given to tricky tray collection to use in the baskets.

COMMUNITY SERVICE NEWS “Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people!” We are in the middle of another year of generosity, kindness and giving. We are wonderful group of quilters and we can be proud of all the good work we do!! Here is a friendly reminder about the community service requirements for Sept 2019-June 2020: Annually, each member is asked to donate something from one category. Please see the website (http://www.colonialquilters.org) for the categories or refer to your new member information. Patterns for charity items such as the walker bags are on our FACEBOOK page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/604180513018705/. Give all donations to Susan Truby at the monthly meetings at the Community Service table; stop by with questions or to get patterns and instructions. Please remember to sew a guild label on your quilt (printed labels are available from Susan), include your name on a slip of paper pinned to your donation, and sign in at our table. You can also donate 4 yards of fabric, which must be 100% cotton fabric of good quality and appropriate for our projects, as it will be used for pillowcases for children, mastectomy bags or wheelchair bags. Thank you for all you do!!

STASHING FOR CHARITYBack By Popular Demand!!! We had so much fun with this we are going to do it again!! Every month we will be collecting Charm Squares/5” squares, nice quality cotton, preferably I-Spy type fabrics - no flannel please.  Your  name will then be entered in a lottery to win a free guild membership. Bring in a minimum of a dozen squares; for every 12 you donate, you will receive one lottery ticket. Blocks will be used at the Community Sew Day to make preemie NICU quilts & Kids’ comfort quilts.

REMINDER from the treasurer: NB: Any requests for money must be made either at a meeting or by a phone call to the

treasurer. No email requests for money will be honored. If you purchase things for the guild, please remember to save your receipts and to fill out a petty-cash/check request form (available from the treasurer or from the guild website) to submit.

From Betsy Lawrence: “If you have a donation for the Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council's silent auction in May, please let me know. Joan Ross, from the council, has volunteered to pick up the items. I would like to make arrangements for her to visit the guild at our April meeting.”

FAT QUARTER FRENZZZY continues… IT’S GONNA BE BETTER THAN EVER! You donate the fat quarters (18”X22”), as many as you like. We like anything, so long as it is nice, quilt-shop quality fabric. There is no requirement about theme or colors. Your donations are always appreciated, but please be sure what you donate would be fabric you would want to use in your own quilts! Bring in as many as you like and we’ll put’em in the bucket (smaller this year = more chances to win!) until it’s full. At each monthly meeting you fill out a chance to win for each FQ you donate and hopefully you’ll get an entire “Bucket O’ Quarters!” Imagine what you could do with a whole bucket of nice, clean, quality fat quarters. from Charlene Weiss
