Artist Georgia O’ Keefe once said about every seven years or so one ought to open the flaps on their tent and let the wind blow through. Save the wheat, but let the useless chaff fly away with the wind. Wind, earthquakes, fire, spring-cleaning, whatever the method the result can be the same. Even with Easter!

So, earthquakes, fire and wind may be a bit over dramatic attempts at cleaning out our respective closets. But in many ways, Easter is a new year. And the new year always seems to be a good time to open the flaps and rid oneself of the extra bulk we’ve accumulate. Lent is a season where we are reminded of the sinfulness we carry which weighs us down. Easter is a figurative freshening of our spirit; a clearing away of all that serves only to weigh us down as we live in the light of God’s glory, God’s victory over sin, death and the powers of evil.

Easter is an opportune time to rid our lives of debilitating frustrations that may have built up regarding relationships with peers, administrators, family members, neighbors, etc … and other psychological, spiritual, and emotional burdens. Easter is a time to remember God’s promise of eternal life, joy, happiness and peace meant for you and for all God’s children.

Open the flaps. Let God’s good news of light and life, the renewing wind of the Holy Spirit blow through and take the chaff along with it. Face life lighter and freer!

A New Beginning, by Roger Emerson

Dawn! A new day! A fresh start! It’s morning.

Light! The first light. A young world adorning.

Fueled by a heavenly spark; led by one beacon of hope. Moving away from the dark to the light. To the light!

A new beginning will start today. A chance to change and learn and know a better way. A new beginning will start with me. We’ll find a way each day to change our destiny. A dream that everyone can share and see the light from

anywhere. A new beginning starts today!

Stars! A bright star. A new dream revealing.

Life! A young life. A new hope of healing.

No one is ever alone. Nothing is ever the same. Together we’ll start moving on and on and on and on.

A new beginning will start today. A chance to change and learn and know a better way. A new beginning will start with me. We’ll find a way each day to change our destiny. A dream that everyone can share and see the light from

anywhere. A new beginning starts today.

Dawn! A new day. A fresh start! Good morning!

Church School Registration

We are now taking registrations for the 2013-14 church school year. There is a registration form on the next page that can be filled out and brought to the church. We would like to have all the registrations by Sunday, May 5

th. We will be offering classes on Sundays from 9:30 A.M.-10:30

A.M. and Wednesdays from 6:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. There will be classes for 3 year olds - 5th graders.

We will have team teachers for every class. Some classes have two teachers and we have even had three or four people for a class. This gives you an opportunity to share the teaching responsibilities so that you don’t have to prepare a lesson every week. If you would be interested in teaching, please indicate that on the registration form, or talk to Pastor Jack.

different Bible topics, and much more. They also do some hands-on service events and fun activities throughout the year. If you would like to register for this class for fall,

please email Pastor Jack.

His email address is: [email protected]

First Lutheran Church Council Minutes

Thursday, February 21, 2013 7:00PM

Present: Pastor Lee Herberg, Pastor Jack Carlson, President Kris Elijah, John Pake, Dot

Frank, Tammy Lapp-Harris, Brian Zacha, Darrell Nitschke, Janet Reineke

Absent: Den Na Lee Fewson, Kris Theurer

Pastor Jack led devotions.

President Kris Elijah welcomed the new council members present, John Pake and Dot Frank.

Tom Chase took their pictures prior to the meeting for the First Lutheran Staff and Council

picture board in the narthex.

Darrell Nitschke moved and Dot Frank seconded to place the agenda on the table. Motion

passed.

After perusal of the minutes, Dot Frank moved and Darrell Nitschke seconded to approve the

church council minutes of January 27, 2013. Motion passed.

Pastor Lee went over the January financials. Expenses in January exceeded income; however,

some of this was due to the fact that December, 2012 was a high income month and the Mission

checks issued in January are 7.5% of the income received. Pastor Lee will review the high

water bill for January to see if there is an underlying reason for the increase.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Web site redesign/possibility of hiring outside professional if we can’t find someone

in-house with needed skills/update.

President; Den Na Lee Fewson will be the new Secretary; Darrell Nitschke will be

on the Stewardship Team, John Pake will be on the Property Management Team;

Dot Frank will be on the Evangelism Outreach Team; other assignments remain

the same.

Ministry Site Profile rough draft (Handout) needs to be completed and call

committee formed for Associate Pastor – Youth and Family.

Easter Services for March 31st will be as follows: youth led Easter Sunrise at

7:00A.M., with a breakfast following, Traditional Easter Festival Service at

9:00A.M., Contemporary Easter Festival Service at 11:00A.M. We will have

communion at all services on Easter Sunday.

“The Banquet” at Trinity Lutheran in Bismarck…we are down to prepare and
