CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 24

The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it,

The world, and those who live in it;

For God has founded it on the seas,

And established it on the rivers.

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?

And who shall stand in God’s holy place?

Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,

Who do not lift up their souls to what is false.

Who is the King of glory?

The Lord, strong and mighty.

MORNING PRAYER

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord God, our loving shepherd, you have led us, but we have not followed. In

the darkest of days, we look for our own light. Little do we know that you are

still with us, leading us through, showing us the still waters. Lord God, our

loving shepherd, we resist your rod, your staff of comfort. Loving God, please

forgive us for the times when we have been obstinate, refusing to follow you.

Please renew our trust in you.

Time of silent reflection and confession…

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Our Psalm today reminds us that God’s loving-kindness is steadfast. It will

follow us all the days of our lives. Friends, believe the good news today, in

Jesus Christ, your sins have been forgiven. Thanks be to God! Amen!

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH From The Confession of 1967

The church confesses its faith when it bears a present witness to

God’s grace in Jesus Christ. In every age, the church has

expressed its witness in words and deeds as the need of the time

required. In Jesus Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself.

Jesus Christ is God with humankind. He is the eternal Son of the

Father, who became human and lived among us to fulfill the work

of reconciliation. He is present in the church by the power of the

Holy Spirit to continue and complete his mission. This work of God,

the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is the foundation of all confessional

statements about God, humanity, and the world. Therefore, the

church calls men and women to be reconciled to God and to one

another.
