Some children have difficulties with their bones or their muscles. They

may not be able to walk or talk or write in the same way as other children.

These children are physically handicapped. But with some help they can go to

school and study the same subjects as their friends and take the same

examinations.

Other children may not be physically handicapped but may have difficulties in

thinking and reasoning. These children are mentally handicapped. With these

Read the following passage then answer the questions below:

As the plane circled over the airport, everyone sensed that something was

wrong. The plane was moving unsteadily through the air, and although the

passengers had fastened their seat belts, they were suddenly thrown forward.

At the moment, the airhostess appeared.

Speaking quickly but almost in a whisper, she informed everyone that the

pilot had fainted and asked if any of the passengers knew anything about

machines-or at least how to drive a car. After a moment of hesitation, a man got

up and followed the hostess into the pilot’s cabin. Moving the pilot aside, the

man took his seat and listened carefully to the urgent instructions that were

being sent by radio from the airport below.

The plane was now dangerously close the ground, but to everyone’s

relief, it soon began to climb. The man had to circle the airport several times in

order to become familiar with the controls. But the danger had not yet passed.

The terrible moment came when he had to land. Following instructions, the man

guided the plane towards the airfield. It shook violently as it touched the ground

Communication

Read the first passage then answer the questions below:

When we think of communication, we normally think of using words, talking

face to face, writing messages and so on. In fact, we communicate far more in

other ways. Our eyes and facial expressions usually tell the truth even when our

words do not. Then there are gestures and "body-language". Even the way we

dress and the colours we wear communicate things to others. So, do animals

communicate? Not in words, although a parrot might be trained to repeat words

which it doesn't understand .But, as we have learnt, there is more to

communicate than words.

Take dogs for example. They bare their teeth to warn, move their tails to

welcome and stand firm to attack enemies. These signals are surely the same

as the human body –language of facial expressions and gestures. Colour can be

an important means of communications for animals. Many birds and fish change

colour, for example, butterflies and lizards attract partners during the mating

season by changing their colours. Bees use dancing to communicate .With body

movements alone they can tell other bees the direction and distance of a newly
