Trustees
Managing the Resources of the Congregation
The role of the Trustees is to oversee, maintain, and supervise all local church property so that the ministries of the congregation can be effective. The Trustees are to work closely with the church council to respond to God’s call. In addition, the Trustees, in conjunction with the Pastor, are to be responsible for all use of the church buildings and grounds. Over the years, the Trustees have developed sub-committees to manage and share these duties and responsibilities.
• Utilities: Cathy Chapman (observe and manage trends, use and expense of electricity,
gas, water/sewer, etc.) • Grounds: Janice Walston (manage and maintain the property beyond the structure.) • Fire/Safety, ADA, Building Codes: Jean Sharpe (participate in making and reviewing recommendations for compliance.) • Mobile Equipment: Larry Price (work with the van committee to maintain safety of church
van.) • Quality Maintenance: Bea Newton (schedule and oversee painting, carpet cleaning, and minor repairs.) • Mechanical: Henry Davis, Will Aycock (review and oversee operation for HVAC and lighting.) • Building Envelope: Brian Carnahan (review and oversee roof, gutters, leaks, etc.) • Building Furnishings: Cathy Chapman (maintain, replace and repair chairs, desks, computers and office equipment.) • Contract Negotiation: Janice Walston (review and update all service, alarm and insur-
ance contracts.) • Facilities: Buck Baskervill, Tom Cozart (past Trustee Chairmen who serve as advisors to
the committee.)
The Trustees oversee an approximate $3.8 million facility and work very closely with the Finance Committee to manage the property within available funds budgeted. We invite you to attend our monthly meeting and learn more about the responsibilities of the Trustees.
Stuart Walston, Trustee Chairman

OUR RESPONSE
Sending Forth
From the Pastor: D.T. Niles was a Methodist evangelist from North Ceylon, which today is known as Sri Lanka. A powerful preacher, he went on to become the 7th General Secretary of the World Council of Churches. Asked once to describe what evangel-ism is, he answered, “Evangelism is one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.” Today marks the second in a series of messages focusing on the 6th chapter of John, the Bread of Life Chapter. In verse 35 we find Jesus saying, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35) Linking the words of D.T. Niles with the teaching of our Lord, I realize the importance of the responsi-bility each of us is given to tell others about Jesus Christ and to let them know where we have found the bread of life. The recent study by Pew Research found that Christianity in the US had decreased from 78.4% of the population in 2007 to 70.6% of the popula-tion in 2014. While Christianity was experiencing this decrease, non-Christian faiths grew by 1.2 % to encompass nearly 6% of the population. But the even bigger finding was that people who identified themselves as being unaffiliated with any faith grew from 16.1% to 22.8% of the population. Those who identified themselves as either atheist or agnostic grew from 4% to 7.1%. The bread of this world will not sustain or last for-ever. We have an important message because we have found the bread of heaven. Today, as we come to the table of our Lord, remember this prayer: “We give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself for us. Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit to give ourselves for others.”

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son
our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
