Submitting to God’s will and allowing God to transform our hearts and minds requires that we examine our preconceived world view and the assumptions we hold. The Holy Spirit is able to bring us through the process, much like Jesus was brought through the great temptation in the desert. Jesus confirmed but also taught us in that example that our foundation, our trust, our obedience, our truth must be in God. Unlike Jesus, none of us are perfect; all of us have “sinned and fallen short.” Yet we continue to take one step at a time, make a little progress, do the very best that we can, especially when pressed by evil, unrighteousness, and wickedness. How can we be victorious and realize God’s hope? Paul advises that we practice the fruits of the spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control. Remain strong in your faith, disciple. Strive to be Christ-like. Allow God to make you perfect, not in the ways of humanity, but perfect in love. Grace & Peace, Pastor Bobbie Maltas

The Traditional Service is broadcast each Sunday on Brenham Radio KWHI/AM 1280 at 11:00 a.m.

and Channel 96 Cable TV at 11:00 a.m.

Our congregation is the charter organization for a Cub

Scout Pack and we’re proud to continue the tradition of

partnerships between BSA (Boy Scouts of America) and The

United Methodist Church. We’re pleased to announce that

soon we will also be the charter organization for a BSA Troop

for Boys and a BSA Troop for Girls.

If you’re interested in becoming involved with the scouting

ministry at First UMC Brenham, please contact Pastor Bobbie

Maltas or Mr. Howard Tomlinson through the church office.

Dear Friends and Members of FUMC Brenham, On what will we build a foundation when we feel shaken to the core?

In whom will we place not only our trust but also our obedience when

the truths of human kingdoms do not align with the truth of God’s reign?

What will be our legacy of faith to future generations? These are

questions we must answer as individuals and as a Christian community

of faith. Each of us would likely answer the questions differently but I

propose to you that common ground can be found, regardless.

In Paul’s letter to the Romans he wrote, “ And not only that, but we also

boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and

endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope

does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our

hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”

God in Christ has showed us through his life, death and resurrection that

through surrendering to the will of God our suffering is transforming.

Through it, like Christ, we gain endurance, character born of integrity,

and ultimately hope that cannot be extinguished. While the reward of

hope is wonderful, the transforming process is painful.

Submitting to God’s will and allowing God to transform our hearts and

minds requires that we examine our preconceived world view and the

assumptions we hold. The Holy Spirit is able to bring us through the

process, much like Jesus was brought through the great temptation in

the desert. Jesus confirmed but also taught us in that example that our

foundation, our trust, our obedience, our truth must be in God.

Unlike Jesus, none of us are perfect; all of us have “sinned and

fallen short.” Yet we continue to take one step at a time, make a little

progress, do the very best that we can, especially when pressed by

evil, unrighteousness, and wickedness. How can we be victorious and

realize God’s hope? Paul advises that we practice the fruits of the spirit:

Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and

Self-Control.

Remain strong in your faith, disciple. Strive to be Christ-like. Allow God

to make you perfect, not in the ways of humanity, but perfect in love.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Bobbie Maltas

New Mission Opportunities Coming Soon

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those

who take refuge in him! Psalm 34:8

It has come to the attention of the Mission Committee that there

are many in our congregation who possess the Spiritual Gifts of

cooking and hospitality. We currently are looking at ways to be in

service to our community. There are so many people in our com-

munity that need both good food and good company. We are look-

ing at ways to do both even in the midst of the pandemic. If you are

interested in volunteering your time, talents and/or resources to

this effort. Please contact Perry Ratcliff or Pastor Greg through the

Church Office.

Welcome Back

Angel Tree and the

State Supported

Living Center

Thank you to all the wonderful members of our congregation who shared the love of this wonderful Christmas

season. This year we celebrated with 16 families who are caring for 54 children in addition to 40 residents of the Brenham State Supported Living Center. The incarcerated parent of the children is not able to say a personal “Thank You” to you. However, please know that the caregivers have said how very much it means to them and the children that there is this continuation of the connection.

First UMYF

hosted by

the

Behrens

UMYF in the Backyard! To keep with social distancing & safety

precautions we are meeting in youth family

backyards. If you would like to sign up to host the

youth in your backyard please contact via email

Jennifer at

[email protected].

The Lion’s Club of Brenham would

like to thank the congregation of

FUMC Brenham for their generous

donations of eye glasses which are

recycled. Over 30 pairs from our

congregation have been recycled to

date to help those who have been in

need. Anyone who would like to contribute can drop

them off to the box in the office.

Thank you,

David Brodhead
