Please Welcome Dr. Don Garner November 3, 10, and 17 Dr. Garner is currently Professor of Religion at Carson-Newman University. He has a B.A., English major [Phi Beta Kappa], University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, M.Div., Ph.D. in Old Testament studies, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Sabbatical study leave at Candler School of Theology (Spring 1991), and Duke Divinity School (Spring 2009), Dr. Garner joined the Carson-Newman faculty in 1980, and teaches Old Testament Introduction, Old Testament Prophets, Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes. Dr. Garner is frequently invited to speak in churches and has served as interim pastor in Kentucky and Tennessee. He is certified as an Intentional Interim Minister. He has taught at two seminaries and has published one book and many articles about the Bible and Christian faith. Don especially enjoys “old” things like antique automobiles and archaeology in Jordan. Concert Series 2013-2014 Presents: Ben Bolt, Classical Guitar Sunday, November 3, 6:30 pm, Sanctuary; Doors open at 6 pm Ben Bolt is a native Knoxvillian who has spent several years of his life studying guitar in Spain, Paris, Brazil, and Uruguay. After his first public performance on national TV, he has performed to full-house audiences throughout North, Central, and South America. He was recently invited by international guitar star Ana Vidovic to perform with her in duo. Now you can hear Ben Bolt in concert at First Baptist Church. The evening will include familiar guitar pieces, adaptations of well-known music like the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handelʼs “Messiah,” and hymns. Tickets are available on Sundays in the Welcome Center, during the week at the Reception desk, and on Wednesday nights in Trentham Hall. WOMEN ON MISSION Tuesday, November 5, 11 am, Room 302 Our speaker this month is our own Beverly Shirk. Beverly will be speaking to us about missions in Central Asia. Join us at 10 am for small group missions study. Immediately following our small group study, we will all gather in Room 302 for our program. We hope you will join us and stay for lunch ($6) in Trentham Hall following the program. The local concert will be a benefit event to help raise additional funds needed to complete construction on The Village, a Restoration House community for low-income single mother families. One hundred percent of the net proceeds will be matched from a local donor and go toward completion of The Village!
