“Many are the plans in the mind of a person,

but it is the way of the Lord that will be established.” (Proverbs 19:21)

Dear Church Family,

I had been thinking of retiring in June of 2018, but God stirred

my soul and basically said that He was not finished with me yet –

that there was at least one more thing that He had for me to do

before retirement happened. My wife Donna and I committed this

to God in prayer and sought God’s guidance on this. We felt led

to share this with my District Superintendent, the Rev. Dr. Terry

Walton, about our being available if the Bishop and the Cabinet

saw a particular need that they felt I could be of service in helping

to meet. That need did come before the Bishop, and I have been

asked to take a special appointment beginning on June 25, 2017.

Throughout the North Georgia Conference, all pastoral moves

will be announced this Sunday, April 2, during worship services.

However, my moving was announced prematurely in another

location. Therefore, the Bishop and my District Superintendent

have encouraged me to share this with you this week in anticipa-

tion of Sunday’s announcement. Our Staff-Parish Relations

Chairperson, Cliff Jordan, and I will share in more detail in all

three of our worship services this Sunday, April 2, about this

upcoming transition in pastoral leadership.

Our history here at Smyrna FUMC is one of being blessed by God;

and as the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 1:6 - “being confident of

this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion

until the day of Christ Jesus.” His magnificent work will continue

here at Smyrna FUMC, and so will the blessings that God brings

as we seek to serve Him.

Because He first loved us,
