EQuIPMENT & OPTIMISaTION FOCuS

On May 8th, 2012, Fives FCB was awarded by CIMAR, a Joint-venture company between Queiroz Galvao & Cornelio Brennand groups, a contract for the supply of a new slag cement grinding plant located in Sao Luis, state of Maranhão, in Brazil.

This order concerns the supply of process equipment of the grinding plant and includes:• one Fives FCB ball mill with two compartments

fitted with predrying chamber (installed power 3,400 kW),

In 2012, Fives FCB was granted a contract by Lafarge for the manufacture, engineering studies and erection supervision of a 3.75- meter grinding mill shell with inspection door and internal liner to replace the damaged and cracked cement grinding shell at its Ndola site in Zambia. In order to measure the precise dimensions of the shell part to be replaced onto the grinding mill, Fives FCB made a preliminary

The TGT™ and SONAIR™ process filters that Fives FCB now offers either as standalone equipment, part of turnkey projects or part of revamping projects, enable its customers to benefit from the experience gained by the Fives Group in more than 130 installations over a 30-year period. This significant development extends Fives FCB expertise in process core functions and its ability to develop gas pro-cessing solutions to meet technological and regulatory evolution. The advanced technology used in TGT™ filters offers many benefits in terms of reliability and ope-rational performance:• Filter bags lifetime is extended as a result

of the ‘soft landing’ cleaning phenomenon thanks to the patented technology used in IAP (Integrated Action Piston) valves,

I n 2012, Fives FCb was granted a license by its sister company, Fives Solios, to extend its range of products and services into Process Filtration market, thus strengthening its ability to offer increasingly efficient, innovative,

comprehensive and integrated solutions.

site inspection to achieve:• geometric measurements of the shell

deformation,• sampling and ultrasound testing of the

potential cutting zones,• accurate geometrical statement of the

building due to its narrowness in order to find the optimum dismantling and erection solutions.

This order was placed following the expertise

conducted by Fives FCB in 2011 to estimate the work to be done upon the grinding mill.By awarding Fives FCB with a work package including expertise, sizing studies, equipment supply, erection studies and supervision, Lafarge has opted for a comprehensive solution that optimizes the process of work preparation and supervision while shortening the shut-down of the plant.

Filtration: Fives FCB extendsits range of equipment oncore process with TGT™ andSONAIR™ filters

• The innovative design enables the use of very long bags to provide greater capacity with smaller filter footprint,• Low-pressure cleaning means a reduced

cleaning frequency and avoids dust re-entrainment, thereby reducing the emission level (< 5mg / Nm3), • ‘On-line’ cleaning sequence enables a better

process stabilization thanks to a constant pressure drop,• The modularity of the

design and its compart-ment partitioning facilitate respectively installation and maintenance.

Its high performance makes the TGT™ filter a highly reliable equipment complying with the most stringent environmental constraints as illustrated by many references already completed in North and Central America. ■

The TGT™ process filter: the pioneering low pres-sure drop pulse jet bag filter

COSMa™, the Conti-nuous On Stream Mineral analyzerIn November 2012, Fives FCB signed a license agreement with FCT ACTech for the marketing and supply of its continuous XRD analyzing system known as COSMA™. Installed either at the burning line or the grinding plant, the COSMA™ system provides on-line realtime automated trend monitoring and analysis of the mineral phases of all types of materials, from clinker to cement and minerals. The COSMA™ system can be installed in the following applications:• At kiln level, it improves burning line ope-ration by providing a continuous control of the clinker phases (with shortened delay after kiln outlet), and therefore of burning quality (measurement of Free Lime content)

• Installed on one or more grinding mills, it enables the optimization of the cement quality by adjusting process parameters for an improved control of hemihydrates production (gypsum states) and of changes of recipes.

When associated with a LASER granulo-meter, it also provides real-time control of separator speed to achieve optimum cement quality. This new technology enables Fives FCB to extend its expertise in process control optimization, and to propose to clients improved burning line and grinding plant performances to reduce operating costs of these plants.

IMSaT CEPrOCIM ENGINEErING, SNEF group (Moldavia)On November 14th 2012, Fives FCB signed an order with Imsat Ceprocim Engineering Company, a member of SNEF group, for the supply of a TSv™ 3000 HF type dynamic classifier and a water injection system to equip an existing ball mill of the Rezina cement plant in Moldavia (Lafarge group). The three ball mills installed in Rezina cement plant are currently operating in open circuit. The equipment supplied by Fives FCB will allow the plant to increase the produced cement quality and also to produce some new high quality cement types while allowing substantial electrical energy savings thanks to the conversion in close circuit of one of the ball mills.

In January and March 2012, Fives FCB conduc-ted some expertise, alignment and machining works on the No. 1 and No. 2 kilns of the Tioxide Europe SI site in Spain. Based on this audit, Fives FCB was awarded the contract to upgrade the kiln No. 1, including:

• The replacement of the upstream pier supporting shell, fitted with its tyre• The supply of a new floating shims system

designed by Fives FCB• The replacement of the whole rollers and

wearing parts on all piers.

Complete replacement of the upstream pier was completed in June. The second phase of work, which involved replacing the roller stations shaft and supporting bearing for the other piers, was completed at the end of 2012.
