Highlights from ZOW Istanbulincluded a fabulous range of discreetly-operated, one-touch lighting fromSamet - and a new push-to-open, softclose slide; unusual, spangled décorsfrom Al-fa, ASD and Woodmarkt; a newprogram from edgebanding specialistRoma which will provide instantmatches to Egger’s UK décors; highspecification metal door profiles fromDemsas; a superb carcase system whichoffers tool-free assembly from the Swisscompany No Tool System; a range ofcastors to rival the best in the UK marketfrom HTS - and much, much more.

Whilst the exhibition had embracedthe German ZOW concept, the cateringcame under criticism with remarkablefrequency, mostly from ZOW Germanyvisitors who have become accustomedto endless availability. Aside from that, organisation appeared to be slick andthere was plenty of product which youwon’t find in ZOW Germany. For thatreason alone, it’s well worth a visit!

A brand new tool-freesystem for carcase

assembly was presentedat ZOW in Turkey - and

the inventor is interestedin contact with potential

UK distributors.

On tour with president, SteenSauer, the Swiss company NoTool System’s mobile show-

room had stopped off at ZOW Turkeyand was impressing the crowds withlive demonstrations of its simple-to-assemble carcase system.

The carcase system offered by NoTool System AG comprises a numberof cleverly designed aluminium fittingswhich, as the company’s name implies, enable panels to be assembled intocarcases without the need for tools oradhesive. Applications range fromflatpack operations to manufacturerswho want to cut assembly times in thefactory, or get more product into theirvans and benefit from delivery by onlyone person. For installers, it means lesstime on site and the tool-free systemdispenses with the need to move anderect rigid carcase units.

No Tool System AG claims a 33%saving in cabinet side panels and a

100% reduction in factory assemblytime, as well as reduced occupationalrisk and freight damage. And, sayspresident and inventor, Steen Sauer, using No Tool System’s products couldmean “up to 66% fewer trucks on theroad” for manufacturers.

So where do you find out more? It’s early days for No Tool Systems.

At the moment, the company islooking for a distributor to represent itin the UK. “We are now in the processof establishing a sales and distributionnetwork around the world,” saysSteen. “We are therefore mostinterested in discussing our revol-utionary system with distributors ofcomplementary products already onthe market.”

Until the network is established, NoTool Systems asks you to contact itsoffice in Switzerland on 0041 24 4360451, visit www.notoolsystem.com oremail [email protected]

Zow Istanbul saw the presentationnot only of Samet’s recently-launched soft close hinge, but

also new slides, new lighting and a newmachine. Designed and manufacturedby Samet, it makes light work ofdrawerbox assembly.

For use with Samet’s classySmartbox range, the new machine -which boasts an assembly capacity offour Smartboxes every minute - enablesassembly of any drawer width from300mm up to 1500mm as well as theSmartbox 270mm and 650mm.Switching between drawer boxes ofdifferent dimensions is simple and quickthanks to fully automatic operation andconcise digital readout. The machinecan assemble Smartbox optionswithout gallery rails, or with one or twogallery rails - and there’s never anydanger of getting the components ofthe Smartbox you want in the wrongplace. A clever error prevention modulemakes sure of that.

But why use a machine when youcould assemble by hand? Compared

with hand-assembled drawer boxes, consistency of quality is assured and thefinished drawers are more stable. Andonce operators are used to it, it’s very, very quick in operation; much quickerthan hand assembly.

Also making its debut on the Sametstand was a fantastic push-to-open, soft-close slide which will really bring thequality feel to handleless drawers.According to enthusiastic sales rep-resentative Serhat Senel on the stand, the new slide is available in 30kgloading capacity.

We particularly liked the newadditions to Samet’s lighting range - notonly the glass panel with LED light whichwas added as an exclusive feature to theSmartbox range last autumn, but alsothe very clever, discreet touch lightingsystem which enables hidden lighting tobe operated and adjusted from touchsensitive panels. Take a look. It’s neat, it’sclassy and it’ll add a new dimension tothe technical status of any kitchen.

We demonstrate visionThe trends for 2013 have been defined: the finely structured design skai® Yukon with flowery and sometimes rustic elements illustrates the trend In Transition, which goes back to nature. The innovative wood designs can be perfectly combined with our skai® plain trend colors. On the other hand, skai® Sanremo Oak with its primal character and brushed look stands for the trend Origin. Its rustic appearance is marked by alternating wind checks, which underscore the natural character. Everything in harmony with each other and coordinated with each other – just like in nature.Experience these innovations among others at the interzum trade fair in Cologne from May 13-16 (Halle 6.1, Booth E 40).

After postponing the purchase of aStriebig vertical panel saw due tothe recession, Gloucestershire -

based R.A. White & Sons is now singingthe praises of a new Compact 4164.

“I was going to replace the old sawabout four years ago,” said owner, BobWhite. “I knew of Striebig's reputationfrom what I had read in the trade pressand heard from colleagues in thebusiness, so I gave them a call.”

After establishing exactly what thecompany needed to do with the saw,the type and size of sheets they cutand their budget, TM Servicessuggested the Compact 4164. That’swhen recession hit.

“Now that business is much betterI thought the time was now right to goahead, so I phoned TM to place theorder. I was pleasantly surprised to findthat they had all my details on file fromtheir visit over four years ago.”

White’s Compact 4164 cutsmainly standard size plywood, MFCand MDF panels, as well as kitchenworktops, up to 30mm thick. “It's abrilliant saw which is spot on when itcomes to cutting completely squareevery time,” said Mr White. “It's well

built with a nicely balanced saw headthat can be changed from horizontalto vertical in seconds and its built-inextraction means there is now far lessdust in the air.”

His son Chris is also a big fan. “Iparticularly like the way the saw bladedoes not cut into the machine'sbacking panels and the totally accuratecut we get every time,” he said.

Everyone at R.A. White has beenimpressed by TM Machinery's staff.“Right from my first telephone enquiryup to when the engineer installed themachine and carried out the training, nothing has been too much for them. They are great people to deal with,”said Bob White.
