Note - The installation process shown is typical for the standard RWE Flake system on concrete floors less than 40m2. Removal of existing floors, surface damage/contamination and larger areas will generally require more time.
1. Clear the floor - removing all items from the area and safely packing them away before the scheduled starting date will allow the applicator to get straight to work. If there are any heavy or bulky items that can’t be moved easily, let them know beforehand so they can be planned for.
2. Establish easy access - make sure the applicator can get in and out of the work area easily and has access to power for tools, lighting etc. If there are any restrictions in this regard, once again it’s a good idea to let them know beforehand so they can plan around it.
3. Seal off - footprints, bugs and dust don’t go well with freshly laid flake floors. Close all windows, turn off lights at night during installation and block doorways. If the floor is one part of a larger project and other work is scheduled, it’s best to leave it to last to reduce the risk of other trades damaging it.
4. Plan to be floorless - as per the timeline above, a standard flake floor will usually take three days to finish and you need to plan around being off the floor the entire time. Keep protective measures in place for the duration and don’t try to get back on it earlier than instructed.
5. Make yourself available - it’s important to stay off the floor while it’s applied, but that doesn’t mean you should disappear entirely. Checking in with the applicator every now and again will keep everyone on the same page and make sure the project progresses as smoothly as possible.
