In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.

One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and — POP ! — out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.

He started to look for some food.

On Monday he ate through one apple. But he was still hungry.

On Tuesday he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry.

On Wednesday he ate through three plums, but he was still hungry.

On Thursday he ate through four strawberries, but he was still hungry.

On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry.

On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon. That night he had a stomachache!

The next day was Sunday again. The caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf, and after that he felt much better.

Now he wasn’t hungry anymore — and he wasn’t a little caterpillar anymore. He was a big, fat caterpillar.

He built a small house, called a cocoon, around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks. Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out and ... he was a beautiful butterfly!

Mrs. Wishy WashyBy Joy Cowly

“Oh, lovely mud,” said the cow, and she jumped in it.“Oh, lovely mud,” said the pig, and he rolled in it.“Oh, lovely mud,” said the duck, and she paddled in it.

Along came Mrs. Wishy-Washy.“Just look at you!” she screamed.“In the tub you go.”

In went the cow, wishy-washy, wishy-washy.In went the pig, wishy-washy, wishy-washy.In went the duck, wishy-washy, wishy-washy.

“That’s better,” said Mrs. Wishy-Washy, and she went into the house.

Away went the cow.Away went the pig.Away went the duck.

“Oh, lovely mud,” they said.

The MittenBy Jan Brett

On a very cold day in the forest a little boy lost one of his mittens.

A mole burrowed into the mitten to get warm.A rabbit hopped into the mitten to get warm.A owl flew into the mitten to get warm. A badger crawled into the mitten to get warm. A hedgehog hurried into the mitten to get warm. A fox trotted into the mitten to get warm. A bear lumbered into the mitten to get warm.A tiny mouse scurried into the mitten to get warm.

The mitten split into many pieces dumping the animals in the snow! The little boy found the pieces of his mitten. He never found out what had happened to it.His grandmother knitted him a new mitten.
