The mobile fl are is designed to burn a mixture of hydrocarbons from (nearly) empty storage tank.It consists of a detonation arrestor, a gas skid, a suction fan F-200, a fl ame arrestor, a fl are stack, a fl are tip with 3 pilots, a redundancy fan F-300, a cooling air fan F-400 and interconnecting piping.By creating a negative pressure in the storage tank with suction fan F-200, the air enriched with hydrocarbons is sent to the fl are tip where it is ignited by the pilots and burned. An air fan F-400 cools down the fl are stack and tip and supplies extra combustion air.The amount of hydrocarbons to the stack is controlled by the operator through remote manual control of the position of control valve FCV-102.1. To avoid back fi re the mixture speed to the stack shall always be greater the 17 m/sec. This is automatically controlled by FCV-102.0.In case of failure of fan F-200 (power failure, overload, etc…) the redundancy fan F-300 (controlled by second power generator) guarantees the air speed of 17 m/sec.Since it has been determined that the aspiration of the mixture of air / crude oil vapors is an ATEX “zone 0” application, three explosion protective lines are required between crude oil tank and fl are system.

TECNICHAL DESCRIPTION

n. 9413/19/00 ISO 9001/2000 n. 1702 n. 06023/10

The system is equipped with the following safeties:

1. The installation of one certifi ed fl ame arrester in the fl are stack = fi rst protection.

2. The installation of one certifi ed detonation arrester in the aspiration line, close to the crude tank (can be done by end user) = second protection.

Both fl ame and detonation arresters are foreseen of PT-100 (probe temperature elements).

3. The installation of a certifi ed “zone 0” aspiration fan (spark free, gas tight, detonation pressure resistant, with fl ame arresters at suction and pressure side).

4. The velocity at the exit of the fl are system must be high enough to avoid fl ash back. The velocity is safeguarded by two fl ow transmitters (redundant execution), and a quick closing automatic valve (*) = third protection.

3.1 The fl are tip including pilot burnersOne (1) air assisted fl are tip with following features:• Diameter: 1.000/400 mm• Total length: 2,5 meters• Flame retention lugs for fl ame stability• High stability fl are pilot burners, suitable to operate on

propane gas. The pilot burners are of the low tension electronic HE

ignition type, and have each 3 spark plugs in the pilot burner tip.

TECNICHAL DATA

3.2 The self-supported fl are stack, with combustion air fanThe stack will be on a solid structure and self supporting. The bottom part of the structure is covered with heat protection. The combustion air fan (two speed fan – NOT frequency controlled) will be installed in the supporting structure at the bottom, underneath the fl are stack.

Capacity: 38.000 Nm³/hr Complete with Exd motor

One self-supported fl are stack with following dimensions: • Diameter stack: 1.000/400 mm• Total height (including fl are tip 3 m): 9,6 meters• Overall height (including support structure)

3.3 The ignition systemOne (1) skid mounted assembly of Ignition control panel, consisting of: • HE ignition for the 3 pilot burners

3.4 The “zone 0” aspiration fanOne “zone 0” aspiration fan with following characteristics: • Medium: “zone 0” vapours mixture of air and HC

vapours• Classifi cation ATEX: II A • Temperature: 35°C• Flow rate: 1 x 10.000 Nm³/hr• Total pressure diff: 60 mbar• Fan execution: ATEX fan zone 0 certifi ed• Flame arresters (suction/pressure side): II A execution• Fan motor (belt driven fan): IP 55 - Eexd IIC T4 - 75 kW

3.5 The fl ame / detonation arrestersOne fl ame arrester make Protego type FA-I-T-IIA 500/10 installed at the inlet of the fl are stack, and one bi-directional detonation arrester make Protego type DA-SB-T-IIA installed close to the crude oil tank:

• CE certifi ed according to ATEX 95 and EN 12874• Including one PT-100 temperature element for the fl ame

arrester, and two PT-100 temperature elements for the bi-directional detonation arrester.

3.6 Aspiration pipe (onto the zone 0 safety skid)One diameter 450 mm carbon steel pipe, suitable length +/- 6 meters, to install the two fl ow transmitters, one FID hydrocarbon analyser, two mechanically linked butterfl y valves (waste vapours and fresh air).

All instruments will be cabled and wired to an Ex-junction box. One multicore cable will then have to be connected to the local panel(s).

3.6 Instrumentation and controls (All Explosion proof, suitable for the ATEX zone of the tank farm).

We have included for following instrumentation: Flare tip: • one (1) thermocouple on each pilot burner

Aspiration line: • Two fl ow transmitters, Explosion proof• One FID “total hydrocarbon analyzer” Explosion proof Model RS 55 – T. (see attached

documentation)

Flame / detonation arresters: • One PT-100 temperature element for the fl ame arrester

and two for the detonation arrester, Ex-proof

Atex zone 0 fan: • One PT-100 temperature element on the fl ame arrester

at suction side / pressure side• Two PT-100 temperature elements to check the

temperature of the bearings of the fan• Quick closing valve at the suction side of the fan as to

shut off the feed • Vibration measurement and safe guarding (Eex d II T6 )• Rounds per minutes (rpm) safeguarding, according to

ATEX and Nitrogen injection of the turbolabyrinth shaft of the fan as to make it gastight towards outside. Required nitrogen fl ow rate: 1 – 2 Nm³/h

We have foreseen following panels:

3.8.1 Panel with MCC’s for the fan motors(zone 0 and combustion air)Eexp pressurized execution.

3.8.2 Panel with PLC and interfaces / amplifi ers for the 4-20 mA signals (FT, FID, TT)Eexp pressurized execution.

3.8.3 Panel with HE-ignition system for the pilot burners (see §3.3)Our system, with its 10.000 Nm3/h, is one of the biggest transportable fl are system in Europe.

The system, approved by TUV, is easily transportable on the road and its assembly / disassembly requires only a few days, moreover, regarding its capabilities, it allows to eliminate any odor. In addition, more than ensure the smokeless combustion gases, it allows to decrease the LEL from 100% to 20% in a few days.It is possible also to check and to record the data on the oxidizing gas. Particularly versatile for the reclamation of tanks containing residues and volatiles arising from storage and / or processing of crude oil, as well as being certifi ed by TUV, the fl are system complies with all new regulations concerning the release of gases into the atmosphere.
