Naiku Teachers can easily and quicklycreate quizzes that students can answerusing their mobile devices. Great forchecking for understanding before andafter a lesson.I never heard of this one, but it has a lotof features for making tracking andsharing of data easy for any subject.Contains 600 assessments from K-12,including college readiness. Can be usedfor one teacher or as a whole schooldatabase. It seems to be a paid servicethat is best suited for a whole school oreven school district to buy into. Here is a nice in-depth case studyanalysis of how a whole school districtuses Naiku. The nice thing about theassessments is that they can be tailoredto student learning paths of ELL or anystudent and easily administered usingtechnology (or if need be for those whodon’t have access to technology for everystudent, use printed multiple choicetests).

Language Domain: Appears to be mostlyreading and some writing.Instructional Approach: Testing based, allows teachers to share data and see whatlevel material best fits the learner, allowing forthe teacher to find the best instructionalapproach.Target Population: K-12, but used by theteacher to assess, formatively andsummatively where a student is at.

Poll Everywhere For companies, teams, andalso schools. As the name implies, it usespolls as a means to check in with whoever ispart of a class or team. Poll Everywhere canbe embedded into pre-existing presentationson many platforms (Powerpoint, GoogleSlides, Slack, and Microsoft teams). Thebenefit of using poles is it engages thelearners in what can be a difficult environmentfor ELL’s for learning online. This gives thema chance to engage with the material in a waythat allows everyone to have a voice.Answers can be the beginning of a discussionwhich would lead into the speaking domain. This is a nice testimonial video for a highereducation institution that explains howteachers and students can use the PollEverywhere.

Language Domain: Responding to reading, listening, includes writing/reading and canlead to speaking activities.Instructional Approach: Makes the studentpart of a collaborative team, which allowsthem to offer feedback and suggestionsrather than just be directly instructed. Worksas a formative assessment for in the momentactivities, leading the teacher and the class tothe next topic or making the previous onemore clear.Target Population: It says K-12 and highereducation. I think you can add pictures tosome polls for younger students. However Ithink as the learner age increases, you get amore in depth understanding of what theperson is thinking and wants to contribute tothe conversation.

Seesaw Here is an introductory video ofhow to use the Seesaw website/app. Iused this everyday for my clinical practicein a 4th grade classroom, because wewere doing distance learning due toCovid19 shutdowns. Seesaw is great forthe purpose allowing students to showtheir understanding of a particular topic orconcept. It is very interactive, and everystudent was able to get feedback oneverything they completed. It is a tidyplace to keep track of learning for ateacher. Students can make videos ortake pictures and voice over the picturesto talk about the photo. Here is a shortLoom video to give you an idea of how Iused it. I connected all of myasynchronous Google slideshows to theactivity so students can read through thedirections. For ELL students I alsorecorded my voice as I read the slidesand showed them on the screen, andthere is an additional feature built intoSeesaw which can translate the text intoany language (but not the slides, just textthat has been written within the website).Parents have access to their students'work so they can also comment or like thestudents activity journal after it has beenapproved for viewing by the teacher. Itserves as a portfolio for the students'

Language Domain: This is a versatile toolwhich allows students to respond in writing -both short answer and in depth writing, eventaking pictures of their physical writing forwriting units. It is listening and speakingbecause they can listen to the teacher’s voicereading the slides, and videos can also beembedded into the activity directions.Students are able to respond with speaking invideos or voice over the image on the screen.Instructional Approach: Offers the option toallow students to work independently. Theblog option will allow the students’ work to beshared across a network of approvedmembers (we used all of our grade 4classes). This allows the student to becomethe one who gives feedback. A teacher canbe a coach or a facilitator as the studentlearns.Target Population: Students at our schoolhave aged out of this by design at grade 6level, because we have moved to Googleclassroom activity submissions in middleschool. I think it could work all the way uptograde 8. This could even work with the FirstSteps (age 3-4) with the help of parents andteachers. It might serve the youngerpopulation as a delivery device for materialwhile during distance learning for the youngerages who cannot sit in front of a computer onZoom classes for long periods, but could alsomeet the needs of an e-portfolio of theirartwork, play, and creations. Most impactfultarget age would probably be Kindergarten to

Padlet is a valuable tool for sharing ideas andexpressing thoughts and understanding. Itcan be used as a pre- and post- unitassessment to show the students whatthey’ve learned. It can be a place to sharevideos, images, and words in text form. It canalso act as a polling mechanism to inform theteacher and the group. We used it during DLPto hear from students about theirexperiences:

My daughter’s German classroom teacherused it as a way to share information forparents to view. This was a one-stop shop forupdates about Covid19 closures and news, weekly assignments, videos and material forweekly activities. It was locked so that otherpeople could not interact with it, but only view- one of the features. Schools can have theirown organization with accounts for teachersto use within the organization only (onlypeople with an FIS email can access). Oneteacher used it as a way to share her ReadAloud to Tiger Rising, where she maderecordings of each chapter in a column. This

Language Domain: Listening, reading, andwriting. No voice record function.Instructional Approach: This is aninteractive approach where students canrespond to their peers and the prompts on thescreen. It provides a collaborativeatmosphere. Teachers can share material toread or watch or even listen to so thestudents can explore resources.Target Population: This can be for theparents of younger children. Probablysuitable for students to interact with fromgrade 2 and up all the way to highereducation.

avenue is nice for ELLs to be able to hear thewords while they can also look on. Padlet isworking on making things more accessible, see their page about that here. One featurethat is nice for ELLs is the screen readerpossibility using Apple VoiceOver. It can beused as a website or downloaded as an appand used on a smaller device.
