    Lyle S. Jeffs

    Dear Uncle Lyle,

    David

    K.

    Zitting

    April 14 2006

I had the enclosed information ready to send a week ago but just missed

    getting it out.

My sons are doing well and the enclosed letters will give more detailed

information. Included are a couple extra copies

    of

    nformation so that you

can furnish them to Uncles Warren and William if appropriate.

Bruce Wisan called this afternoon to say that his attorneys were getting

ready to s tar t some eviction proceedings but they first called Washington

County. They were told that Jake Barlow paid some property taxes that

relate to the parcel that yom: home is located on. Mr. Wisan didn t seem to

have further information but said they will get more details and also check

with Mohave County. This appears to change things some at this time as far

    as they are concerned.

Mr. Wisan said several days ago that they had a list ofabout thirty-five

    names to

    send

property tax notices to but planned to narrow it down

    to

    about

a dozen for now. Besides your name and Legrande Barlow, two other names

    · ·have been specifically mentioned --- Terrill Johnson and Kimball Barlow. It

appears that nothing is really decided for sure at this point and after today

things could change. There is no way

    of

    telling just yet.

I hope to have a recording available for both the Wisan presentation at our

April th ity Council meeting and the upcoming April 9th meeting. My

hope is to furnish you with a more detailed report at the end or the month

    along with copies

    of

    the recordings.

    Sincerely Yours,

    David

    Lyle S. Jeffs

    Dear Uncle Lyle,

    David

    K

    Zitting

    April 8, 2006

I am planning to send a more complete report for April at the end

    of

    the

month but felt that this one item needed to

    be

    provided sooner. Please

provide this and other materials to Uncles Warren and William as

    appropriate.

I understand that Bruce Wisan's attorneys are sending

    or

    posting some

property tax notices to a handful

    of

residences. A sample is enclosed. Your

    name

    was

mentioned as one. Also, Legrande Barlow. Those are the only

names that I have heard but understand that there are about a dozen.

    It

appears that they are selecting some

    of

the larger homes, what they consider

    as more prominent

    or

controversial persons and possibly where there are

high fences. They have also mentioned that they are leaving Uncle Fred's

    home alone because

    of

    he public uses

    but

have said that they may yet try to

make demands about opening up fences

    or

gates. They also have said that

they are leaving what they call the compound (Uncle Rulon's Homes)

    alone

    for

    now .

    I was

    told

that the notice going out is a revised version. The first one,

    supposedly, required the signing

    of

    an occupancy agreement

    but

    no

    deadline.

    I'm

    told that Bruce Wisan objected

    to

    the occupancy agreement

requirement and so the attorneys deleted it

    but

    added a 5-day deadline for

    responding.

    Mr.

Wisan continues to say that payment ofproperty taxes will avoid any

attempt, on their part, ofan eviction notice

    or

    action, even though they will

try to obtain as many occupancy agreements as possible.

    He

    says that the

    Judge is leaving much

    of

    these details up

    to

him and he thinks that she will

    back

    him

    up. He also says that

    it doesn't

matter how the property taxes are

paid as long as particular properties or addresses and persons are identified,

    whether paid individually

    or

as groups. He also mentioned that, according

to what someone has told him, it appears that some FLDS member's

    property taxes might be paid

    or

    partially

    paid

    by other people --- possibly

    someone's children

    or

    parents,

    etc.--

    maybe even anonymously.

    Mr.

Wisan says that they will contact the counties about taxes before taking

    any specific legal actions.

    Lyle S Jeffs

    Dear Uncle Lyle,

    David K Zitting

    April8,2006

Enclosed are the letters of confession and testimony that you asked my

    Aaronic Priesthood sons to write

    to

you. I have asked all six to include a

letter and I felt that it would be appropriate and my duty to include my own

letter expressing what I know about the events that have caused concerns.

For a while, I have had a definite feeling that something was lurking nearby

in an effort to cause trouble in my family. n the past month the feeling

intensified to the point where I felt a constant heaviness that alarmed me. I

searched for a reason and on several occasions asked my wives individually

to help me identify the cause. I have made it an increased matter of prayer

but we had been unable to find a specific reason for the concern.

My family has generally been diligent and sincere in their efforts to do right.

I call my family on the intercom to awaken at 5:00 a.m. and we meet at 6:00

a.m. t night, I walk through every part

    of

the house and check every room

and every person at least once after everyone has retired.

    I f

    am not home I

call and direct mothers to do the same; and all members

    of

    my family can

call me at any time and often do. And I will call many times as needs arise.

Our older sons have either full time jobs or part time jobs besides school.

They keep in touch with me and call when they leave their jobs to return

home and often when they arrive home. I have received many positive

reports about their work and behavior; and they each have more than one

place that asks for their help. They have also been sincere and diligent in

their Aaronic Priesthood meetings and assignments.

Newel has had an acquaintance in the past with the son

    of

    a good Priesthood

man. This man s son has often showed up where ever Newel was working

in town and asked Newel to go with him or he asked to help Newel. This

led to some situations that concerned me and Newel and I have often talked

about it. Some time back it got to the point where Newel told

    me

    that he

was stopping any association with the other boy. The other boy has still

    tried

    to

contact Newel but it appears that Newel is attempting to keep his

    word.

When Uncle Lyle talked to my sons on April 1

    5

it was as though we were

going through another disastrous accident like we had a couple of years ago.

    In fact a couple

    of

days later it occurred to me that

    is

    exactly what was

happening. My sons were in the line

    of

their duty sincere in their work and

helping their father; and then we were hit with a very serious crisis.

    t

    was

the same thing just a different approach. Before threatening their physical

safety and now their moral safety. Each son was even in the same role.

I have since talked with each of these sons several times individually and

    together. All

    of

their responses have been consistent. And all

    of

    them say

    that they

    don t

    know why these things happened.

There have been musical CDs and movie DVDs. Parley and Joseph are the

only two that have had them. They have been played in their bedrooms and

sometimes the CDs have been played in vehicles while traveling to and from

    work.

Samuel and Newel share the same bedroom with Joseph and they often work

together. They have therefore seen and heard a part of the CDs and DVDs.

Daniel is in a different bedroom and was unaware

    of

    these things but recalls

hearing a CD playing on a couple of occasions when he had stepped into the

other boy s room. Parley has his own bedroom but shared some

    of

    what he

had with Joseph and the other two boys.

    Hyrum

    also has his own bedroom

and was unaware of any of these things.

    Most

    of

our bedrooms have had CD/tape players in the past and have often

played appropriate recordings from Uncle Warren etc. At various times

over the years I have on occasion showed my family carefully selected

    videos

    of

    a proper educational animal

    or

geographical nature. At one time I

talked with Uncle Warren about this. I have also at various times asked

everyone in the family to tum in to me any type of media or media player---

sound video etc. This has not been a major concern but there have been

some items that I have discarded.

    As

near as I can determine Joseph started to get some CDs from Wal-Mart

when going to and from his job several months ago. He has had some

interest in guitar music that he had heard from others in the past and thought

that he would like to have some CDs with guitar music on them. Being

unfamiliar with what there was he bought some to see what was on them.

    He was disappointed

    in

a lot of what he selected but liked some of it. Some

    of

the CDs he broke in two and threw away. While in a music and video

    3

department, another boy or boys from our community talked with him at

least one or more times and mentioned some things that they liked, including

some DVDs. Curiously, within the last month, Joseph bought two sets

    of

these DVDs with a total of four discs. He says that he didn't know what

    he

was getting at the time; and I was unfamiliar with them when I recently saw

them but have since found out that it is grossly inappropriate for us, but

    apparently is the type

    of

movie that has become acceptable to some. Joseph

also went to the Radio Shack in our community and bought a small portable

DVD player with a 4-inch screen so he could play them.

The DVDs that Parley purchased were also purchased within the last month

or so. The CDs were purchased within the last several months. Because he

works long hours, he thought that he would like to find something to keep

him awake while driving back and forth. He went to Wal-Mart and listened

    to some excerpts

    of

CDs and purchased four single CDs

    of

    authentic Irish

and Scottish music. They included old Irish ballads and Irish and Scottish

instrumentals with bagpipes, fiddle, harp, etc. He also purchased a couple

    band

    and

    classical CDs.

    And,

someone had mentioned the Chipmunk CDs

    to

    him

and he curiously bought one of those. Recently, he saw a DVD

    collectors set.

    of

six DVDs of 50 western classics. These are old black and

white westerns, many filmed in Southern Utah,

    of

    early John Wayne movies,

Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, Gabby Hayes, a couple early Ponderosa episodes,

etc. e was interested in the portrayal of old fashioned western ways and

purchased this set along with a small portable DVD player with a 7-inch

screen. Having the DVD player, he has also rented a few DVDs over a

month's time --- Herbie (Volkswagen) movies, etc.

All ofwhat they have, has been turned in to me and has been removed from

our home; and all ofmy sons are following the instructions that Uncle Lyle

gave to them; and our home has since been re-dedicated again. I appreciate

this as a growing experience for our family, gratefully recognizfo.g, once

again, the hand of the Lord and the prayers and blessings of our Prophet,

    whom we always pray for,
