Whole-life costs
Acquisition, operation, maintenance and disposal expenses are crucial to
consider when planning your fleet. Over 3 years or 60,000 miles, depreciation
can account for 60% of a vehicle’s whole-life cost. Maintenance costs for a
Toyota or Lexus hybrid can be half those of a comparable diesel model. Low
CO2 emission models reduce taxation and improve write-down allowances.
Companies pay lower Class 1A National Insurance and drivers pay less
Benefit-in-Kind. These company and personal tax savings can be worth
thousands of pounds over a car’s lifetime.
To make informed model choices, speak to our expert team today
(see back cover for contacts).
Is your choice list created using real whole-life model costs? Is the upfront outlay or monthly rental disguising other expenses?
10
What might change?
Compared to historic testing, the new WLTP regime (including adjusted
NEDC figures in the interim) will cause reported fuel consumption and CO2
emissions figures to rise. For new models, expect to see adjustments to
assessments for:
Despite this, the comparative differences between different manufacturers’
models will remain largely unchanged. So, for instance, a Toyota or Lexus
Self-Charging Hybrid will still offer significantly lower emissions, greater
fuel efficiency and therefore lower BIK, tax and whole-life costs than a
comparable specification conventionally fuelled model.
New Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure: A brief guideSince September 2017, a new system started phasing in to make the fuel consumption and emissions figures for all new passenger car models and model changes more accurate and easier to compare.
After nearly 40 years, the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) test has
been replaced by the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure
(WLTP). These updated laboratory tests, matching real-world driving
performance, measure:

FLEET FOCUSEDSPRING 2019 EDITION
It’s been another exceptional year. At the time of going to print, 55% of UK Toyota passenger car sales are hybrid electric vehicles. In 2018 alone, that is over 50,000 vehicles that are cutting particulates, NOx and CO2 emissions and reducing whole-life costs – advantages confirmed by the latest Which? research.
Our range continues to grow. The All New Corolla Touring Sports made its first public appearance at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, joining the Corolla Hatchback that was unveiled earlier in 2018. Both models will be manufactured at our UK plant in Burnaston.
We are excited to welcome the All New RAV4 early in 2019. The fifth-generation model will be all hybrid. The All New Toyota Camry was also unveiled in Paris, combining stylish design and superior comfort with efficiency.

All New CorollaThe All New Corolla was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018, followed by the Touring Sports in October. We are excited to be launching both models early in 2019.
With a sleek, sporty design and generous equipment levels, the Corolla replaces the outgoing Auris. The Hatchback and Touring Sports will be built at Toyota’s Burnaston factory in the UK. Available in four grades, a saloon will also join the line-up later in 2019.
Toyota will be the first manufacturer to offer a choice of hybrid powertrains. You can choose between a smooth, efficient 120bhp 1.8-litre (55.4 – 65.9mpg & 83 – 76g/km CO2) or a more energised 178bhp 2.0-litre (50.4 – 60.6mpg & 89g/km CO2) which achieves 0-62mph in just 7.9 seconds. Both these powertrains deliver low emissions and excellent fuel efficiency for reduced whole-life costs.†

All New RAV4
The All New RAV4 has true ‘go anywhere’ capability, and a strong, eye-catching design to help you look the part.
A low centre of gravity and increased body rigidity enhance handling and ride comfort whilst a spacious, high-quality interior provides class-leading load space.
All grades enjoy advanced technology including an upgraded Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and an eCall emergency contact function.
The fifth generation of the original SUV will feature a self-charging, 2.5-litre 219bhp hybrid electric powertrain. Fuel efficiency, lower emissions and quieter operation with more power
and responsiveness ensure excellent performance from both the all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive (49.2 – 51.2mpg, 105 – 102g/km CO2*) models. From rest, the All New RAV4 reaches 62mph in just 8.1 seconds.†

Toyota hybrids top Which? fuel economy report “ Two decades on after the first Prius was
sold, it seems hybrids are starting to become the truly fuel-efficient option.”
Which? compared 123 UK hybrid, petrol and diesel models in real-world town and open-road driving scenarios. In motorway tests the Toyota Prius recorded 52.3mpg and the Prius Plug-in 46.6mpg, prompting Which? to conclude that it’s possible for hybrids to be as fuel-efficient on motorways as diesels.
Research by Which? shows the latest Toyota Self-Charging Hybrids deliver more miles per gallon, lower annual fuel bills and fewer emissions than selected petrol and diesel models.

Toyota C-HR: Total Security Services switches to hybrid
TSS (Total Security Services) Ltd, the UK’s leading retail security specialist, is replacing the diesel models in its fleet with 70 Toyota C-HR Self-Charging Hybrids.
The company’s field-based managers will enjoy advanced safety, comfort and technology features whilst reducing emissions and fuel consumption.
“ We were very impressed that the emissions are 87g/km of CO2, a figure which ensures a lower Benefit-in-Kind tax rate. The Toyota Touch 2 with Go navigation also aids dynamic journey planning, further supporting efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. ”

The Toyota Mirai has become the first hydrogen fuel cell electric car to drive the 1,100 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End, emitting nothing but a few litres of pure water.
Starting with a tankful of hydrogen generated by renewable energy in the Orkneys, the route took in four existing hydrogen filling stations. Autocar magazine recorded a 56mph average speed, with just 15 minutes’ refuelling and a fuel bill of £193 – equivalent to 17.9p per mile.

Toyota’s hydrogen technology is already helping to power cars, like the Toyota Mirai, as well as buses, trucks and forklifts. Now, the latest advances see the company launch the world’s first autonomous hydrogen-powered vessel.
Energy Observer is electrically driven, using power derived from both renewable energy and stored hydrogen extracted from seawater. Over the next six years the vessel will travel the globe with a carbon-free footprint, emitting no greenhouse gases or harmful particulates.
After sailing around France through 2017, Energy Observer is now in the Mediterranean and will move on to Northern Europe in 2019. The crew aims to reach Tokyo in time for the Olympic Games in 2020.

Toyota Gazoo racing hybrids conquer 24 hours of Le MansTaking the chequered flag in first and second place, Toyota Gazoo Racing has won the 86th 24 Hours of Le Mans with hybrid race cars.
Toyota has entered 47 cars in more than 20 Le Mans endurance competitions, finishing on the podium six times. It is only the second Japanese manufacturer to win Le Mans, with Nakajima becoming the first Japanese driver to win in a Japanese car.
The team’s win in hybrid electric powered cars demonstrates the resilience of the technology in even the most arduous conditions. The cars even used 35% less fuel than in 2012, when Toyota returned to international endurance racing.

LEXUS SELF-CHARGING HYBRID: NO PLUG-IN REQUIRED
6
The Lexus Self-Charging Hybrid system seamlessly combines petrol and electric power so the vehicle charges itself as you drive. There’s no need to plug in or charge overnight. Whenever the petrol engine is running, it drives the generator to charge the battery.
Hybrid fuel-saving technology automatically switches between the electric motor and petrol engine. So when you are driving in full electric mode, this means no petrol will be used, and there will be zero emissions. But should you need a sudden burst of power, the petrol engine provides support. When braking, energy is also recovered to charge the battery.
With over 1.3 million Lexus hybrids sold worldwide, hybrid luxury is here to stay.
