Charlie’s Chat
Jim Weaver How well can you know someone after only a couple of years? Well, if that person is Jim Weaver, you feel like you have found a great friend after the first time you meet. The first time I met Jim was when I started here at the campground two years ago. Steve told me that he called Jim “Dad”, like the way I call Steve “Dad”. When he told me that I figured that Jim was a man I needed to respect. Once he shook my hand and pulled me in for a hug, which made me feel like part of the family, there was no question… I had the utmost respect for Jim Weaver. To me personally, Jim was a man that was strong in God, family, and friends. If you weren’t part of that God/Family/Friend group, then you never had the pleasure of meeting him or you were someone that didn’t deserve to meet him in the first place. Of course, Jim wasn’t the only person that I met that day. I was also given the gift of meeting Jim’s wife, Judy. Judy is one of the sweetest ladies I have had the pleasure to meet. Together, Jim and Judy instantly made me feel as if I were part of their family, and took a lot of pressure off of me in regards to my new position here at the campground. Above all else, my picture of Jim was that of a strong, caring, generous, and loving family man; someone that would help another in a time of need, even if it meant
taking time away from his own needs. Jim excelled at whatever he did; whether it was being a loyal husband, a dedicated father, a true friend, a vessel for God, an asset to his community, or even a seasoned fisherman. I truly believe that there was nothing that man couldn’t do as long as he found it to be worth his time. On March 6
th, 2013, something
happened that seemed nearly impossible; Jim left this life for a new one. I pray that he watches over us and gets to see us smile, laugh, love and grow; my deepest sympathy to Judy, Jim & Jennifer, Joy & Christopher, Ashley, and Andrew. We have lost a great man, but let’s never forget that even that great of a loss will never compare to the love, respect, and memories that we are still blessed with to this very day. His memory will shine almost as bright as he did.
Charlie’s Chat is a
monthly installment in
The Monthly Chatter
which honors Charlie
Ellis. Charlie was a friend
to many and one of the
hardest working
employees to ever grace
the gravel roads of Poor
Farmer’s.
Rev. James R. Weaver, 73, of Piqua, died at 10:09 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born March 13, 1939, in Cincinnati, to the late Joseph and Clestine (Rehmert) Weaver. He married Judy Rich on
May 7, 1961 in Piqua; she survives. Other survivors include a son, James II (Jennifer) Weaver of Covington; a daughter, Joy (Christopher) Hobbs of Piqua; two grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Hobbs; a sister, Joanne (Donald) Motter of Piqua; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Weaver of Celina. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward G. Weaver.
Jim was a 1958 graduate of Piqua Central High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a 52-year member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, where he served as head deacon and associate pastor, having become a licensed minister in 1963 and was ordained to the ministry in 2011. He also served on the advisory committee for electronics at the Upper Valley Career Center.
Mr. Weaver retired from the Miami County Auditor's Office after a 21-year career as the Weights and Measures Inspector. He served the City of Piqua as a Commissioner from 1987-1995. Jim had also worked at the former Maier's IGA of Covington, Kraft Foods, Piqua Engineering, and at the Upper Valley Career Center as an electrical instructor in Adult Education. He was
also the owner and operator of J&J CB Service for 25 years.

Ok all you Polar Farmers! It’s time to make that wonderful transition from cold and dreary to warm and sunny. By now I have spoken with most of you about returning to your regular site in the campground, if I haven’t, please get a hold of me (Mike) in the sales office and I will make sure we find you a great site. I want to remind everyone to get into the parts store and sign up for the annual Poor Farmer’s get together on April 14th, at 6PM being held at the Fletcher Fire Department on State Route 589 just south of Fletcher. If you haven’t got your name on the list let us know today (April 1st was the deadline for RSVP). Also remember to get your name on the list for the end of April “Super Rally” being held on April 26-28. I know this is a lot of info for you to remember, that is why I put it in the Chatter, so you would be able to refer back here for your dates. Before long, dates and times will not matter as much because the weather will be nice and sunny and warm and smell like BBQ. Once that happens who cares what time it is or much less what day it is. This is Mike Till signing off the final installation of “Polar Farmer’s” until November 2013. I hope you all have a great season!
“My Dutch Oven Journal” By: Jacque Shoenleben
When Denny and I bought our first camp Dutch oven, I looked at it and was scared to death, “There was no way I’m going to learn to cook anything but soup in it”. For the first year or so it would hang over the camp fire cooking only soup. I can’t tell you what the first “non-soup” dish I cooked in it was, but now I look at a recipe and think; “Can this be made in the CDO (camp Dutch oven) for my family and friends?” Here are some Do’s and Don’ts to remember when you are cooking with a Camp Dutch oven.
Do: Season them
Keep them lightly oiled
Buy quality Lodge Cast Iron Cookware from the friendly folks at Poor Farmer’s RV
Invite Mike down to the camper for an official taste test.
Don’t: Confuse a camp Dutch oven with a Dutch oven.
CDO’s have a lip around the outside of the lid for coals.
Use dish soap to wash your cast iron
Put in the dish washer
Leave out in the rain
Store with lid completely on Most of all… Don’t be afraid to try something new.
**CDO’s heat from the top and bottom; if it is not done on the top and burnt on the bottom more coals are required on the lid.
Brownie Recipe (Easy for beginners) Get your favorite brownie mix and mix ingredients according to the directions on the box.
Oil your Camp Dutch oven ake at 3 0 (8 charcoals on bottom and 16 charcoals on top)
Bake according to time on box turning CDO ¼ turn every fifteen minutes as to eliminate any hotspots.
