ABOUT ALTIFLEXCONVENTIONAL SEALINGThe building industry traditionally uses battenframes with plastic for sealing off buildings.

The problem with plastic is that it lets in damp and mould, does not retain heat and can easily be broken into with a basic stanley knife. The plastic breaks easily in strong winds and thenneeds ongoing repair.

In the long-term plastic seals quickly become an expensive stop-gap solution.

MODERN SEALSIt pays to the job properly – the first time. Altiflex modules consist of a strong metal frame, which is flexible and telescopic and thereby suit-able for many different openings. The modules can be extended up to 25 cm and are assembled using screws, nails or bolts.

ABOUT THE MODULES

ADJUSTABLE MODULESThe Altiflex system consists of window and door modules of varying sizes, which seal the building effectively – regardless of whether for door ope-nings, window openings or entire walls.

The modules come in all sorts of formats from 50 cm up to 325 cm. The modules can be connected together in countless ways and can seal off ope-nings measuring right up to 1000 m2. All modules are available with or without the option to open them, which can be useful for hoisting materials inside for example, or for airing.

The models can be adjusted to size and all can be scaled by 25 cm for both height and width. This means that the modules can be sealed tight, thereby sealing the building 99.9 % against wind and the elements. The flexible system is unique in the world and is patented in a large number of countries.

WEATHER AND THEFT-RESISTANTNot only are the modules wind and waterproof, they are also energy-saving, protect against theft and make security railings superfluous.The benefits of using Altiflex instead of traditio-nal plastic screens are numerous.

SHOCK-PROOF AND INSULATINGThe modules consist of a window and a flexible frame. The frames are made of powder-coated aluminium. The actual window part consists of a 10 mm sound and heat insulating and shock-proof plate of break-proof polycarbonate in 4 layers. The 10 mm channel plate has a low U-value of 2.8, which in insulation terms corres-ponds to certain double-glazed windows.

LOW WEIGHT AND HIGH STRENGTHAluminium is a metal that has many positive properties: low weight, rigidity, strength and mouldability. By using aluminium instead of stainless steel, a lighter total weight is achieved, making the modules easier to handle.

The Altiflex modules can be connected together in more than 100 combinations.

They can seal all imaginable openings and there are almost no limits to how they can be used.

We can, for example, seal a house on all vertical surfaces or create walls of up to several thousand m2. Altiflex can currently be used in up to 15 different ways with new options available on an ongoing basis.

APPLICATION POSSIBILITIES

TEMPORARY SEALING OF DOORS AND WINDOWSThe most common use of Altiflex modules. Altiflex is used for both new developments and also in property renovaton.

Modules can be connected to seal all sizes of window and door openings. Modules are available both as fixed and hinged for opening thus providing maximum flexibility. The system is easy to assemble and dismantle.

The modules are attached with frame screws (for concrete) or thread cutting screws (for wooden constructions). When sealing larger openings the modules are attached to vertical posts.

OTHER APPLICATION POSSIBILITIES

SECURITY RAILINGSAltiflex is a simple and effective system for security railings. The security railing is a click-on system that is quick and easy to assemble and dismantle.

The modules can be assembled so thatthey work both as security ralings and temporary seals at the same time. This means you only need one working procedure, which can almost halve your costs.

The modules provide optimum workingconditions on the building site and mini-mise the risk of falls.

TEMPORARY WALLSAltiflex modules can be connected toget-her to create one or several large walls.

We can create walls up to several thou-sand m2, which can be used for e.g. sea-ling large facades.

The modules can also be used for sealing balconies and lift shafts.

PARTITION WALLSAltiflex modules used as partition walls are effective at keeping dust out.

The additional benefit is that Altiflex also significantly minimises noise. This is useful, for example, in a shopping centre, where construction can take place on one side of the partition wall without disturbing shoppers on the other side.

Altiflex is very competitive when it comes to delivering and assembling partition and dust walls.

DUST WALLSAltiflex modules are effective at keeping dust out and minimising noise signifi-cantly.

The modules can be used with advantage to minimise disturbance from e.g. recon-struction, so that efiiciency is maintained in residences or work places where many people fare during the day.

Moving the walls is simple and the total costs are significantly lower than for other known solutions.

OTHER APPLICATION POSSIBILITIES

STORAGE ROOM FOR BUILDING MATERIALSIt is easy to use Altiflex modules to create a storage room for materials. A room is quite simply made with a door and wheels if required.

The room saves employees time, in that materials can easily be locked away instead of always being trans-ported away.

With windows that can be opened and doors with locks, such as on a container, you gain a secure area to store materials and work tools in.

SCAFFOLDING COVERAltiflex modules are used instead of plastic for all types of construction.

The modules are easy to asasemble and can be connected together with all scaffolding.

Benefits include improved anti-theft and the option for heating. Any residents also avoid the „noisy” plastic covers.

GATESThe modules can easily be attached to gates of all sizes. It makes it easy to get into the buildings with cranes and vehicles.

It is possible to lock the gates.

BUILDING SITE FENCEIt is easy to put together Altiflex modu-les to create a solid fence around the building site.

The modules can be connected toget-her in the desired height and length. They are slightly transparent, so you can still see any activity through the fence, yet views are obscured from the outside in.

We recommend integrating opening modules such as doors to provide secure entrances, which can be locked to prevent uninvited guests.

I worked out how much we actually spend on temporary seals for battens, plastic and security railings.

Tower Havneholmen is an area of approx. 18.000 m2 distributed over 11 office floors and 8.000 m2 of parking on 3 floors.

Thomas Jensen has been involved in Skanska Øresund’s DKK 360 million turnkey contract right from the project planning phase and is responsible for the total costs of the project as well as all the previous calculations.

FINANCIAL“Altiflex was used to seal windows and doors.It was for business reasons pure and simple that we chose Altiflex. I figured it would be worth it and it was basically a case of saving the pennies”, explains Thomas. “If one solution costs DKK 7 and another costs DKK 10, then People will always pick the one for DKK 7, but you need to remember to include all factors in your calculations. Altiflex does not cost anything to rent, but with traditional plastic seals you still have to pay for wood, plastic, labour and maintenance. Once Altiflex is fitted,it stays. The traditional solution simply didn’t pay. In the comparative calculation Altiflex came out the cheapest. In addition there was also the energy-

saving factor, because we had to heat megetop to cast the concrete.”

PRODUCTION LINE SPEEDThe door modules were a permanent fixture throughout the entire construction phase, while the windows were sealed two floors at a time.”There were 11 identical floors, so we just moved the modules up 2 floors every time we finished a stage„ explains Thomas Jensen. Altiflex frames had already been installed from the floors below, so it was easy to move them from floor to floor. That the product could be re-used 100% in this way really saved us a lot of time. The teamwork has been great, it was the concrete foreman who had the contact and as each floor took 8 days, we were able to work in a set rhythm throughout.”

Tower Havneholmen is Green Building certified and is also in the process of gaining a LEED certi-fication. Thomas Jensen anticipates an increasing demand for certification in the future.

With the rapidly increasing demand for buil-dings to reduce their energy consumption, it is natural for this area to become a major focus during the construction phase.

Energy costs typically comprise 1-2 % of the sum of construction for normal buildings, when neither the building or building site is designed with energy in mind. This corresponds typicallyto 3-4 years of heating of the completed buil-ding. For low-energy buildings this period is even longer.

Consumption could be halved if buildings and building sites were designed appropriately. By using Altiflex this becomes achievable, as the system provides a significant reduction in the form of lower energy consumption. Sealing the building plays an essential role so that damp is avoided during the building pro-cess and so that drying out can be done with-out unnecessary energy waste.

ENERGY CONSUMPTIONIS EASY TO REDUCEThere are many ways to reduce consumption on building sites, and it is an obvious thing to do because these costs are utterly unneces-sary and such consumption leads to large CO2 savings.

ENVIRONMENT AND RESPONSIBILITY

GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENTThere is a big difference between the loss of heat using various sealing methods. Below is the U-value indicating heat loss. The lower the value, the smaller the heat loss.

MODULES ARE RE-USEDAltiflex modules are re-used from building site to building site and have an extremely long life-span. When the modules are finally disposed of after many years of use, the aluminium is recycled for other purposes.

ALUMINIUM WITH BENEFITSAltiflex modules are made of lightweight alu-minium. By using aluminium rather than steel a lower overall weight is achieved, which not only makes the modules easier to handle, but also means they require less fuel to be transported – with positive repercussions for the environ-ment.
