FlexiDry Global Ltd

FlexiDry Global Limited offers an end-to-end logistical and technical support service for the supply and distribution of a range of market leading screed products and services across the UK and Ireland.

What is FlexiDry?

FlexiDry is an accelerated screed additive which can be used on a wide range of floor applications.

By altering the dosage the dry time of the screed can be chosen at 7, 14 or 21 days.

Page 4: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

How FlexiDry works

Screed hardens due to a chemical reaction –hydration– between cement and water in the mix whichrequires one part water to four parts cement by weight.

Obtaining the correct water to cement ratio is abalancing act: the mix needs additional water to beworkable enough to place, and to fill voids, but excesswater can make the mix weaker, porous and lead to shrinkage.

Page 5: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

How FlexiDry works

FlexiDry, when added to the mix water, allows moreof the cement molecules to bond, accelerating thehardening and drying time without compromising onworkability, strength or durability.

The concentration of FlexiDry in the mix water willdictate the rate at which Hydration and drying willaccelerate.

The difference between FlexiDry & standard floor screeds

• Depending on the dosage of FlexiDry final floor finishes can be installed after 7, 14 and 21 days

• Standard screeds laid at 75mm will take approximately 110 days to dry before final floor finishes can be installed

Page 7: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Additional Benefits of FlexiDry

• Light foot traffic after 12 hours

• Does not need curing

• Greatly reduced shrinkage due to the highly controlled drying process enabling much larger bay sizes

• Better compressive and bending strength properties

Page 8: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Additional Benefits of FlexiDry

• Increased compressive strength

• Major cost savings due to the ability to dry the

screed in-line with the actual project timescales required to best meet completion dates

• Being a low concentrated non hazardous liquid it is just added to the screed mixture on site

Page 9: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Additional Benefits of FlexiDry

• Allows reduced thicknesses on top of insulation andUFH systems and therefore uses less screed, soless cement and better for the environment

• It is water repellent unlike anhydrite and traditional sand & cement screeds

• No need for mesh reinforcement (PP Fibre includedas standard)

Page 10: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Underfloor Heating

• Underfloor Heating (UFH) utilises medium temperature piped hot water

• One of the most efficient methods of space heating for homes and a wide range of commercial buildings

• Renewable heat source used to warm the circulating water delivers a completely green heating solution

• UFH is the perfect solution to assist in achieving legislative goals of zero carbon emissions for schools by 2016 and homes by 2050

Page 11: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

FlexiDry on UFH

FlexiDry is a perfect screed solution for Underfloor Heating. It provides a good conductor of the heat dissipated from the pipes and due to its high density and easy compaction optimum performance is achieved.

Page 12: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

FlexiDry on UFH

Recent tests by a recognised University showthat a cementitious screed is 20 to 30% moreefficient as a thermal conductor than ananhydrite screed.FlexiDry Floor screeds are more efficient due tobeing more compact than a standard cementitiousscreed plus the cement content being an activeconductor.

Sustainability

Reduced thickness = less cement used

• FlexiDry allows the screed to be laid at a reduced thickness compared to standard cementitious screeds

• Less material is needed per project i.e. less cement • Reduced carbon footprint• 1.25 tonnes of CO₂ expelled in the production of every

one tonne of cement

Page 16: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Sustainability

Reduced wastage

• FlexiDry Floor Screeds are mixed on site; therefore minimal waste & reduction in landfill

• Ready Mixed screeds are inherent of much larger waste margins as it is difficult to pre-order the exact quantities for an installation

Page 17: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Sustainability

Reduced handling & transport

• As FlexiDry is a low volume usage liquid based additiveless storage is needed both on and off site

• Ease of handling due to small dosages • Eradicates expensive transport costs for the screed

contractor due to small volumes required• Removes the need for replacement screed products as

one product does it all

Page 18: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Sustainability

Sustainable heating

• Screeds provide the best thermal conductivity on UFH

• FlexiDry being of a more dense consistency provides a better thermal reaction to temperature change

• Better compaction around the heating pipes so reduces the energy requirement

Page 19: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Sustainability

100% recyclable

Cementitious Screeds using FlexiDry additives are completely recyclable and provide a whole life solution which can be recycled and blended with concrete for further use.

The Greenpower Centre, Arundel

The building will provide an inspiring learning environment for participants and industry professionals and an innovative test bed for low emission technologies.

Page 22: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

Sustainability

The centre has been designed with sustainability at its core through collaboration between Greenpower, Emission-Zero, Fordingbridge and Passivent. The building itself is open plan to allow flexible use of space and includes an office area, a lecture theatre and storage. It makes use of passive design features such as orientation andnatural ventilation to use as little energy as possible.

FlexiDry Projects

Flexidry has been used extensively across all manner of installations in the UK and throughout Europe.

In the UK it has been adopted by many Tier 1 main contractors and specialist Underfloor Heating Installers to improve the flexibility of site work, and speed up delivery.

FlexiDry & BSF

FlexiDry has been used on a considerable number of projects under the Build Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.Using FlexiDry allows reduced screed thickness on top of insulation and Underfloor Heating systems and therefore less cement is used on each project reducing carbon emissions.

Page 35: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

FlexiDry & BSF

It is estimated that over the next 20 years in excess of 4,000 secondary schools will be built.

The project started in 2009 and currently involves 2,367 schools.

Page 36: FlexiDry Floor Screeds Presentation

FlexiDry & BSF

On average we estimate completing the screeding of 200 schools a year with the average job size per school of 5,000 square meters.

By changing the specification of the whole BSF project over to FlexiDry it would save 105,060 tonnes of cement & 131,325 tonnes of CO₂.

FlexiDry & BSFKier converted from Anhydrite to FlexiDry Fast Drying Screeds at Long Benton Campus, Newcastle.

Main Contractor Kier decided to change the specification after the first pour of Free Flowing Anhydrite screed to the FlexiDry Fast Drying Screed System and used FlexiDry F2 (14 day dry) and F3 (21 day dry) screed additives to suit the project timelines.

The reasons were their concerns as to how long the screed would take to dry before final floor finishes could be installed, particularly heading into the winter months. The FlexiDry Floor Screed is being installed over underfloor heating to approximately a 5,000sm area. FlexiDry provided the perfect solution and gave control back to the Contractor.
