1926 Life Profile of Mrs. Jannie Madora Watson 2019 Alpha Omega
Mrs. Jannie M. Watson, widow of Samuel Watson, daughter of the late Maude Victoria Smith, was born on August 31, 1926 in a rural farm area. She developed a love of gardening that carried on into her adult years. She loved canning and freezing vegetables. She was a member of Old Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. If you knew Mrs. Watson, you knew how much she loved her church. She was named “Mother of the Church”. She never wanted to miss a Sunday of Sunday school or regular church service; even when she did not feel well, she would get dressed and go to church. She said she always felt better after attending church. Several years ago she had knee surgery. The surgery was on a Monday, on the following Sunday, she was right there back in church. She was a 1944 graduate of Fountain Inn Negro High School. After graduating, she worked for S and S Blouse Manufacturer. Early in life, she loved to make her own clothes, as well as, clothes for her daughter. Many of days she would sit at her old peddle sewing machine to make at least one item every week. She made all of her daughter’s clothes, until her daughter grew up and began purchasing her own clothes from department stores. During her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, reading, and Mrs. Janie and her daughter had a super loving relationship that lead them to travel extensively together. Traveling from place to place in the United States as well as foreign countries. On the morning of September 11, 2019, her earthly journey became no more. She closed her eyes on this side, only to awaken to see the pearly gates. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are her daughter Judy Watson of Wellford, South Carolina; her sisters, Thomasenia Smith and Lillie Williams both of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Laura Greene of Oxon Hill, Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother John T. Smith.
