121 Floriculture - Horticulture Classes - Dept. I and J RULES, REGULATIONS AND INFORMATION Rules and Regulations Apply to Both Horticulture Shows 1. Only one member of a family may exhibit only one entry in any one class. (See rules on page 113). 2. Pre-entry is still required for Horticulture specimens on the Friday and Wednes- day Shows. Please enter all categories you feel you may have specimens for. Once entry tags are received, bring only the tags and specimens that you feel are qualified for show(s).(See times and place to bring exhibit listed below.) The GENERAL Entry form is located in the back of this catalog. 3. If the exhibit is incorrectly entered, it will not be placed for judging. Subdividing of any class in the Dixie Classic Fair Flower Shows is PROHIBITED. 4. All exhibits in these classes must have been grown by the exhibitor. 5. All entries should be labeled with BOTH the common and botanical names (name variety). ONLY PROPERLY NAMED EXHIBITS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR TOP AWARDS. 6. The Flower Show Committee will furnish clear glass containers on a "First Come, First Serve" basis. From then on, exhibitors will furnish their own containers for all horticulture entries, using clear small size drink bottles for small specimens and clear glass container for collections and larger clear glass specimens. Foil pans may be used for camellias, gourds and vegetables. WEDGING WITH CLEAR PLASTIC WRAP IS PERMITTED. IN THE ROSE DIVISION, WEDGING IS PERMITTED WITH ANY APPROPRIATE MATERIAL. 7. Rules and Regulations Apply to Both Horticulture Shows

2. Pre-entry is still required for Horticulture specimens on the Friday and Wednes-day Shows. Please enter all categories you feel you may have specimens for. Once entry tags are received, bring only the tags and specimens that you feel are qualified for show(s).(See times and place to bring exhibit listed below.) The GENERAL Entry form is located in the back of this catalog.

3. If the exhibit is incorrectly entered, it will not be placed for judging. Subdividing of any class in the Dixie Classic Fair Flower Shows is PROHIBITED.

4. All exhibits in these classes must have been grown by the exhibitor.

5. All entries should be labeled with BOTH the common and botanical names (name variety). ONLY PROPERLY NAMED EXHIBITS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR TOP AWARDS.

6. The Flower Show Committee will furnish clear glass containers on a "First Come, First Serve" basis. From then on, exhibitors will furnish their own containers for all horticulture entries, using clear small size drink bottles for small specimens and clear glass container for collections and larger clear glass specimens. Container plants will be judged during FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4 flower show.

1. All Container-Grown Plants REQUIRE pre-entry on Dixie Classic Fair entry blanks found at the back of this catalog and must be received no later than September 1.

2. Put both common and botanical names of exhibit on entry tags. If not so identi-fied, the entry will NOT be eligible for a TOP AWARD. Please be sure all information is on tag received from Fair office.

3. Container-Grown plants must have been in the possession of the exhibitor AT LEAST THREE MONTHS BEFORE EXHIBITING THEM except for Classes I-94 through I-96 which must be in the exhibitor's possession for at least 6 weeks. NO CONTAINER OVER 12" IN DIAMETER WILL BE ACCEPTED. CONTAINERS WILL BE MEASURED FROM INSIDE RIM TO OPPOSITE SIDE INSIDE RIM. EXHIBITOR MUST BE PREPARED TO PLACE ENTRY.) 4. Plants should be disease free and insect free.

5. Container-Grown Plants, Classes I-15 through I-102, must be brought to the Home & Garden Building on Thursday, October 3, between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 pm. (See Fairgrounds map inside back cover of catalog.)

6. Container-Grown Plants must be picked up Monday, October 14, between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Any remaining exhibits after this time will be disposed of by the Committee.

Exhibitors may use wedging OF ANY APPROPRIATE MATERIAL in the ROSE division

All roses in Classes I-105 (J-105) through I-117 (J-117) will be placed on exhibit tables in alphabetical order. Each variety entered will constitute a class. A rose (or roses) entered in this alphabetical listing will be judged only against other roses entered of that same variety. ENTRY TAGS MUST SHOW CLASS NUMBER AND LEGIBLE VARIETY NAME. Blue or other ribbons will be awarded each variety if the rose (or roses) are considered worthy by the judges. No award is required for any rose. Example: Roses whose names begin with the letter "A" will be entered in Class I - (HT & GR) i.e., American Heritage, Apollo, Aquarius, Arizona, etc. and continuing with "B," Bewitched, Big Ben, etc., through the alphabet. EACH variety will be judged on its own merit and will be awarded ribbons accordingly. Even if only one rose of a variety is entered, it will be judged on its own merit.

The winner of the Award of Merit in the rose division will receive a 1 year WSRS Family membership presented by the Winston-Salem Rose Society.
