Florida Voices for Animals, Inc. PO Box 17523 www.floridavoicesforanimals.org Tampa FL 33682 [email protected] 727-656-8368  April/May/June 2010  Featured Member & A Fantastic Fundraiser Jim Janolek is a hard charging Ma- rine Drill Instructor turned Animal Rights Activist through his career  path choices, one most instrumen- tal being an investigator for (PETA) People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. A vegetar- ian for over 15 yrs with the past 9 years as a vegan, he hon- ors his beliefs that all animals have a purpose on this earth, none of which include being on our plates. In 1993, after twelve years in the US Marine Corps, Jim met some folks who were hiking the Appalachian Trail. They told him all about it and he was fascinated and enamored by the idea of walking the trail himself. He never imagined tak- ing on such a monumental and life challenging journey and the thought of doing it himself has never left him. Until now, his lifestyle has never afforded him the luxury of time to explore this dream. Thankfully now is the right time to make his dream a reality. Jim has frequently volunteered at demos and events for FVA and was Nikki's biggest supporter during her time working for FVA. Jim has taken on a huge challenge in the n ame of the animals. Leaving for the Appalachian Trail in April, he  plans to take his steps to raise money for FVA Animals and show that being vegan is no obstacle. Along the way, Jim will be sending out email updates of his  progress and experience. Email [email protected] to receive updates and read stories from the trail. Jim is asking for donations/pledges of $.01 to $1.00 per mile. The Appalachian Trail totals 2175 miles, with an aver- age of 12% of hikers completing it. Donations will go to FVA to continue its efforts pro- moting animal rights and free- dom, educating the masses on how to make compassionate choices for those without voices. Please visit Jim’s website at www.VeganFreeHiker.com for more details, to become a sponsor and to see what you can do to help. "Walking the entire Appala-  chian Trail is not recreation. It is an education and a job... It is  not 'going on a hike'. It is a  challenging task - a journey with deeper ramifications." ~ Warren Doyle Jr.
