5.1.1 General
Please note the following points before connecting up the device: •Thevoltagesupplymustmatchthevoltagespecifiedonthenameplate.•Switchoffthesupplyvoltagebeforeconnectingthedevice. • Connect a potential matching line to the terminal to be used on the FTR20 before
connecting the device to the power supply.•Whenconnectingtothepublicpowersupply,apowerswitchforthedevicemustbeinstalledwithineasyreachofthedevice.Theswitchistobeidentifiedasadisconnectingdevice for the device (EN/IEC 61010).
• An additional overcurrent protection device (maximum 10 A) for the mains cable should be integrated into the system installation.•Thecableglandsandconnectorsarepermittedforconnectingfixedcablesandlines
only. The operator must ensure adequate strain relief.• The device is to be attached so that the cable gland is protected from mechanical
damage (degree of mechanical hazard "low" – impact energy: 4 joules).•Unusedguideopeningsmustbesealedoffusingsealingplugs, theplastictransport
sealing plug does not meet this requirement and must therefore be replaced during installation.

7.3.3 Gain and detection range (Function B and C)The"Gain"and"Detectionrange"functionsareforfineadjustmentafteranautomaticand/ormanualcalibration;formostapplicationstheyarenotneeded.Alternatively,acalibrationeven without the process is possible only with these functions.
The functions are particularly helpful in the following cases:•Calibrationforapplicationswithlowreflectionorlowsolidflow•Mappingofmovementsintheareasurroundingthemeasuringpointwithnomovement

IntroductionThe FTR20 detects the movement of a wide variety of bulk solids. The total detection range (0 to 100 % = minimum to maximum possible signal strength) is designed to be correspondinglywide.Thiswayevenproductswithverylowreflection(smallsignalstrengths),suchasrigidpolystyrenefoam,canbedetected.
Sincewithmostapplicationsthesignalstrengthsdonotcovertheentiredetectionrange, this can be adapted with function B "Gain" and function C "Detection range".

10.3 ReturnThefollowingmeasuresmustbetakenbeforereturningameasuringdevice,e.g.forrepair:• Remove all residue from measuring materials which may be stuck onto the device.
Pay particular attention to seal grooves and scoring in which residue from measuring materials may stick. This is of particular importance if the measuring material poses a risktohealth,e.g.isflammable,poisonous,corrosive,carcinogenic,etc.
• Always enclose a fully completed “Declaration of Contamination” (see appendix) with the device, withoutthisformacheckorrepairisnotpossible.
Also specify: • The chemical and physical characteristics of the measuring material• A description of the application•Adescriptionoftheerrorwhichhasoccurred(ifnecessary, specifytheerrorcode)• Operating period of the device
10.4 DisposalIf required by the Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment(WEEE),ourproductsaremarkedwiththedepictedsymbolinordertominimize the disposal of WEEE as unsorted municipal waste.
Such products may not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste and can be returned for disposal at conditions stipulated in our General Terms and Conditions or as individually agreed.
10.4.1 Device removalPerform the installation and connection steps from the "Installing the FTR20" (→page18)and"Connectingthedevice"(→page21)inreversedorder,takingintoaccount the safety guidelines.
Danger to persons from process conditions! Take care in the presence of dangerous processconditions, suchashightemperaturesoraggressiveorcorrosivemedia.
10.4.2 Disposing of the device
• Danger to personnel and the environment from media that are hazardous to health.• Ensure that the measuring device and all cavities are free of any residual media that are hazardoustohealthortheenvironment,e.g.substancesthathaveseepedintocrevicesordiffusedthroughplastic.
Observe the following when disposing of the device: • Comply with the applicable national regulations. • Ensure proper separation by substance types and recycling of the device components.

Because of legal regulations and for the safety of our employees and operating equipment, we need the „Declaration of Hazardous Material and De-Contamination“, with your signature, before your order can be handled. Please make absolutely sure to attach it to the outside of the packaging.
